*BUFFALO SHOW REVIEW*
- Review By: aubrey_king_at_ny1__supb@ccm.frontiercorp.com
Belly full with bean and vegetable matter, four people on a mission
treaded the tired streets of off-elmwood buffalo towards the Showplace
Theatre. A glaze in my eyes and the constant radio in my head blaring
out songs that only I can hear - Firehead. Lost in a sea of bodies at
the door, the anticipation builds. "Yeah, Frontier is friends with
those guys. They're from Chicago and from what I hear, they're pretty
spacy." Good. I love to see new bands. Ticket ready, hands
trembling, yet, a sort of calm washing over my insides. The first
calm I'd felt all day after waiting so long. The radio (in my head)
switches over to I Hate it Too. "Ticket, please." I hand over the
piece of paper in a daze. Damn, it's smoky in here. Time for a few
drinks as Frontier goes on.. My head is really spinning. Not from
over-consumption, but from the velocity and depth that Frontier spit
out. Visual display combined with an aural presentation that stunned
the mind. I found myself leaning over to my right dozens of times and
correcting myself, feeling foolish. It was out there, to say the
least. Gotta get that album. Lights up.
Lights Down. That soothing guitar! "If You Are to Bloom." My
favorite song on the latest album. A fantastic opener to set the mood
for the rest of the night. From there, the set went through crazy
transitions, including, but in no particular order, The Scientists,
Scraper, Afternoon With the Axolotls (new intro), Suicide Machine,
Dreamboat, The Pod, Comin' Home, I Hate it Too and Stars. This
fantastic set ended off with an unbelievably mindblowing Iron Clad
Lou, which left the crowd in total and complete uproar. I had no
idea.. so many people.. so happy. Yelling, screaming - back on! I
knew it would have to be Green to Me - and it was. To see this one
live was like nothing I've ever experienced at a concert. Following
this up, the closer of the show was a ripping, "I'd Like Your Hair
Long." Feedback/noise at the end, courtesy of Matt and Tim.
I walked back to the car a very satisfied man and drove home with the
mellowest of Urbana brand space available. Maybe I will drive to Penn
State after all.
