2nd Encore:
???(they played something but i'm drawing an absolute blank!)
Scraper (i think)
Then after the show i went and bought a t-shirt. I came back onto the floor
and found my dad having a conversation with Bryan. It was really cool. My dad
was telling him that i played a lot of their stuff on guitar, so he started
telling me about tunings that Matt uses.
He said he used some C tuning for
Apollo and he went on about some other stuff. He was a really nice guy. Then i
had him sign the inseam of DiH. After that i wandered around a little more and
found Jeff. I talked to him for a little while and had him sign DiH.
Then i
had my girlfriend take a picture of me and him. That was awsome. I shook
Matt's hand when he came out from backstage, but i didn't get to talk to him
at all. He was in kind of a rush.
Tim was no where to be seen. So all in all
it was a pretty good nite. Got to meet Hum...pretty cool. Well, later fellas.

good lord.
that was amazing.
here's the set:
afternoon (w/intro)
the pod
iron clad lou
(this is the same intro as the chicago show)
dreamboat (just the first half)
i hate it too (with long jam ending)
green to me
comin home
suicide machine
pinch and roll
apollo
stars
winder
encore:
ovrthrstr
i'd like your hair long
then half of the crowd left, the sound guys were starting to
dismantle the stage, and the crowd broke into this kind of
cheesy but ultimately cool HUM, HUM, HUM chant with foot
stomping..
one of the sound guys got visibly agitated as he
saw hum coming back on stage again...Matt had his flannel on
over his SHINER t-shirt, they obviously hadn't planned on another
encore, they stood around for a couple of minutes deciding what
to play...matt looked so bewildered...
2nd encore:
little dipper
scraper
I haven't seen them play little dipper since the first time I saw them
right after ypaa came out...that was in the basement of St. Andrews,
called the Shelter..there were about 50 people at that show--last
night it was packed.
After a killer version of scraper (much more
intense than the version played at the Chicago show, complete with
the final line..."shut your eyes and fuck you too!"), HUM finally
exited stage, commenting that they were "too old to play any more",
and they were clearly exhausted.
They were tighter than I have ever seen them, this was my fifth
HUM show.
Matt was in his best circa e2k form that I have witnessed
thus far, his vocals were outstanding, ranging from long sustained
clean notes to splintering screams in pnr, winder, and scraper.
The vox were the most up front in the mix that I have witnessed live,
and it sounded damn good. Bryan's drumming as usual was mind-boggling.
That intro portion of 'afternoon' is so basic, but his drumming makes
the sound fascinating...tim and matt exchanged so many smiles while
jamming together all night, they clearly felt the magic all those
of us in attendance were bathed in, and were having a blast.
the light show was well done, too. lots of greens and purples,
lots of strobes and backlights.
they even got the mirrorball kickin
during i hate it too.
you guys waiting to see them still, hang in there. it's SO worth
the wait...
