~*Chapter One*~
"Baby don’t be that way," Salym shouted as her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend stormed out the door. The loud slam of the door behind him echoed throughout the tiny apartment as Salym sat down on the cold floor and hugged her knees to her chest, sobbing as though she would never stop.
‘All this over a stupid girl’, she thought bitterly. Luke had been her first serious boyfriend, and she thought that they would always be together. Luke, however, had other ideas. He wouldn’t be content with just one girl, so he had to go out and find another one. Unfortunately for Salym it happened to be her best friend… or worst enemy now.
"Ring, ring."
The harsh shrill of the phone startled Salym out of her daze, and with tears still running down her face she answered the call.
"H-hello?" she said shakily.
"Salym?" the caller asked.
"Kristie?" Salym replied.
"Yeah… Listen, I just wanna tell you that Luke and I are living together now… I can’t believe what you just said to him… You are such a bitch."
"You think I am the bitch?" Salym yelled. "No way! My God, how could you be so heartless? I can not believe you just said that… well you know what? That is IT! ‘You would think that after all we’d been through, I’d be able to put my trust in you’…isn’t that how the song goes? Yeah well it obviously doesn’t apply to you so NEVER TALK TO ME AGAIN!! See what you’ve done? 10 years of friendship down the drain over some guy who is pond scum… Do you feel good about what you’ve done?"
Finally Kristie was able to get a word in. "Yeah I feel great… You don’t know what you’re missing out on."
"Oh yes I do… and let me tell you…it aint that good." Salym slammed down the phone and for about the fiftieth time burst into tears.
Knock, knock.
‘Oh crap,’ Salym thought. ‘What now?’
"WHAT???" , she yelled.
"Hey, if its a bad time I’ll come back later," came the muffled reply.
"Duh its a bad time’ she thought but opened the door purely out of curiosity.
As she peered out of the door, she smelt Tommy, and nearly fainted on the spot. There stood the most gorgeous guy she had ever seen… dark brown hair, deep brown eyes that you could get lost for days in… and the most adorable look on his face.
"Hi…I’m your new neigh…Oh wow, are you ok?" he asked, searching her face for some clue as to what had happened.
"Not really… but I’ll be ok," she replied, her face burning. What an impression to make!
"Are you sure? I mean, I don’t want to pry or anything, but it just seems that you’re really upset and I’d like to help… trust me…I’ve probably been through what you’re going through and sometimes advice from the experienced is the best medicine." He said, looking at her intensely.
"Sure, why not? Come in and ‘scuse the mess" Salym said as she led him into her apartment.
She took a deep breath.
"Well…" and it all came tumbling out. Every little detail, from how they met to how they broke up was poured into the poor guy’s ears as Salym spilt the beans.
"Oh wow, I can see why you’re upset… and just think, I don’t even know your name yet!" He laughed cautiously.
Salym burst out laughing. "I am SO sorry… I can't believe I did that! Here you are, coming to introduce yourself, then suddenly you’re helping my fix my love life… Forgive me?"
"For you, anything," he said honestly. "Anyways my name is AJ in case you were wondering."
"Salym…Please to meet you AJ." Salym replied.
