~*Chapter Three*~
"Guys, pizza’s here!" Kev yelled over the noise of everyone else. Suddenly there was a mad rush to get out of the pool and the pizzas were surrounded in less than three seconds.
Salym was left feeling bewildered by the experience and stood still for a moment, collecting herself.
AJ came back and took hold of her hand.
"Come on, they won’t bite…hard anyways!" AJ smirked and pulled her towards the table where Nick and Brian were fighting over the last piece of cheese pizza. But when they saw her there, they became true gentlemen, and offered her the piece.
Salym shook her head in refusal, and the fight continued.
"Do you want a piece, babe?" asked AJ, and again Salym shook her head. "Well come with me then!"
Beside the Pool
AJ and Salym sat close together, with Salym’s head resting upon AJ’s broad shoulders. She felt completely relaxed and was having a great time not worrying about Luke and Kristie.
"Are you listening?" AJ’s question suddenly shook her out of her daze.
"Oh sorry babe, I wasn’t…just dreaming," she replied.
"I used to think that dreams were just, for sentimental fools…" Brian began, sneaking up on Salym and AJ.
"…And I’d never find someone, who’d give their love so true…" Nick finished.
"You guys, come on, bit a privacy wouldn’t go astray!" AJ protested.
Immature cat calls and wolf whistles followed, but finally they left and the two were able to get back to their conversation.
"So what were you asking me before WE WERE SO RUDELY INTERRUPTED!" Salym shouted for the benefit of the retreating Nick and Brian.
"I was asking you if life seemed a bit more hopeful now," replied AJ, taking her hand in his and measuring her hand size against his.
"Oh yeah. Things are definitely … looking … up …" Salym answered as she raised her lips to AJ’s.
"GO AJ!!!!!!!!!!!" yelled Howie, shattering the peaceful night as all four guys came hurdling towards them.
"I’m so sorry," AJ mumbled under his breath as he stood up. As each guy ran by one by one, AJ tossed them into the pool without a second glance, only looking over his shoulder to see if Salym was impressed by his strength and agility. But she was too busy crying.
"Ohmigod, is something wrong? Did I do something? Did one of the guys hurt you? Come on, tell me! Don’t leave me hanging!" AJ pleaded as he wrapped her in a big bear hug.
"Nothing’s wrong…I’m just so happy. You are so sweet to help me out like this … You know, if I hadn’t met you this afternoon, I probably would have done something totally insane, like injure myself really badly. Thank you so much for this… you don’t know what it means to me." Salym sobbed into his chest.
"That’s aok, babe," he said, smoothing her dark brown hair down with his strong fingers.
