~*Chapter Six*~
With Salym and AJ in the Car, Waiting for the Others to Finish Crawling Out The Bathroom Window
"You know, I had a feeling …" Salym whispered in AJ’s ear.
"And what exactly did you have a feeling about?" he whispered back, his breath tickling her ear.
"About you being a Backstreet Boy," she answered coyly.
"Yeah, and what made you think that?" he asked.
"Well, I thought that you were either a major tryhard or the actual AJ. I thought that you made yourself look like AJ and made friends only called Nick, Brian, Kevin and Howie so that you could impress all the girls. BUT, now that I know, I can give you my full attention and stop thinking of a way to tell you to get a life." she laughed as she told him.
"Mean!" AJ cried as he began tickling her in the ribs. The rest of the group was in the car by this time and were looking at them as though they were from another planet. Natalie just shook her head, smiling.
Back To Brian’s Place
"Anyone for pizza?" Brian grinned at all the shocked faces around him.
"Are you ever not hungry?" asked Natalie playfully, lightly punching him in the arm.
"For you, always!" he said, tickling her ribs.
"Hey, watch it mister!" she laughed as she squirmed away from his fingers.
"Nah, I’m totally stuffed. Me thinks its time for bed!" said AJ, yawning. Salym looked at the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled and thought, ‘oh how cute!’.
"Same," agreed Rachael. "I think its time to call it a night guys!"
"Oh," "Boo," "No yet!" came the replies.
"Sorry everyone! See ya … when?" asked AJ, yawning again.
"Tomorrow!!!! We got a concert to go to!" yelled Brian, who was on hold ordering some pizza for Nick and himself.
"Oh yeah! See ya then!"
AJ and Salym let themselves out of the apartment and jumped in Salym’s deep green Jeep.
"Hold on!" She yelled as she screamed out of the driveway and onto the street. AJ held on for dear life as she raced around corners and raced up streets. ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ he thought, smiling.
The Next Morning
Knock, Knock.
"Wait up AJ! I only just got outta bed!" Salym called as she threw on her bathrobe and went to answer the door.
"Oh, nice robe babe!" he greeted her sarcastically. He was dressed to perfection, Tommy dungarees and funky purple glasses. Salym stole them off his nose and jumped around the room, laughing at the way everything looked so different.
"Man, are you always this hypo in the mornings?" AJ looked bewildered, and she ran up to him and gave him a kiss on the nose.
"Only when I know you are coming over," she answered slyly as she led him over to the sofa.
"Take a seat … I’ll be right back!" she said as she walked out of the room backwards, walking like a zombie.
AJ could hear her mumbling in the next room. "Rule number three: never say, ‘I’ll be right back, because you won’t be right back."
In another voice, AJ heard "Hey I’m gonna get a beer - you want one?"
In yet another voice : "Sure"
"I"LL BE RIGHT BACK!!!"
"Oh, see what happens? You break the rules and you end up dead. I’ll see you in the kitchen with a knife."
Salym walked out of her room in a bright yellow sundress. Once she realized AJ had heard what she had said, she was quick to explain.
"Scream - the best movie of all time - Man, I could probably recite every line from that movie. Hey, you probably think I’m weird now!"
"No, I could never think you’re weird. Crazy, maybe, but never weird," he answered playfully.
"So, where are we going?" Salym asked as AJ led her out of the room.
"You’ll see …" he replied mysteriously as he took her hand.
At McDonalds
AJ leant across the table and took Salym’s hand.
"Salym, there is something I have to ask you, and I don’t really know how to without sounds like some 16th century Romeo." AJ said.
"Oh, Romeo, speak to me and ask me thy question. An answer true you are sure to receive!" Salym answered in a very poor British accent. She sounded more like Scary Spice than Juliet!
"OK, here goes… you ready?"
"Hurry up already!" Salym said impatiently.
"OK. I know that we’ve only known each other for … what is it? Two days now? Anyways, I was just wondering … if maybe … you’d like to be my girlfriend" AJ mumbled the last bit.
"What?" Salym called, holding her hand up to her ear.
"Be my girlfriend? Please?" AJ pleaded, giving her a puppy dog look. It was irresistible.
"Kay …" she replied shyly.
AJ’s smile could have lit New York for a week. "Really? Cool!" he said. Then he took off his thumb ring.
"Here, I want you to have this. I know it isn’t much, but I just want you to have it."
"Thanks, baby," she said, sliding the ring onto her thumb. It was a bit big, but it didn’t matter. Her heart was pounding so loud she was surprised AJ couldn’t hear it.
"Good. Now that that’s settled … want Macca’s?"
At Salym’s Apartment
(On the phone to Faye)
"Faye you will never guess what just happened" Salym said excitedly.
"Yeah, I bet I can!" replied Faye. You could hear laughter in the background.
"Who’s there with you?" Salym wanted to know.
"Oh, someone," Faye replied vaguely.
"Yeah? Well I bet I can guess who!" teased Salym. "My guess is Kevin, Rachael (Duh, you guys live together) and Howie - correct?"
"You go girl! OK, my turn. Ummmm, AJ asked you out?"
"Yeah! He gave me his thumb ring!" Salym said happily, twisting it around her own thumb.
"Hey guys!" Faye called out. "AJ and Salym are together!"
The cat calls on the other end of the phone were so loud Salym had to pull her ear away from the phone.
"Hey, Salym? I guess you can tell we’re all happy for you two!" Faye said. "But, I gotta split. The guys have rehearsal and I’m gonna go. Are you going?"
" I dunno … AJ didn’t say anything about it!" Salym said, puzzled. "Oh well, will you come and pick me up?"
"Sure! See ya soon! Bye!" said Faye, and Salym hung up the phone.
‘Why didn’t he say anything?’ Salym wondered. ‘Oh I know, he probably didn’t want to bore me or something. Ah well, I’ll give him a surprise!’
