~*Chapter Eight*~

At Salym’s Apartment

Salym waited impatiently inside her living room, pacing from side to side. Her head was spinning as she thought of what had happened.
She wanted to believe AJ, but then she was still suspicious of him. (Hey, wouldn’t you be if you were dating a famous, gorgeous guy and your ex was sleeping with your ex-best friend?)
A knock at the door startled her out of her daze, and she hurried over to the door.
"Just a sec!" she cried as she checked her appearance in the mirror behind the door.
‘Man I am so glad I have this mirror here!’ she thought to herself as she smoothed out her skirt nervously.
"Hi, I’ve been waiting for you …" she started as she opened the door, thinking it was AJ. But it wasn’t. It was Faye, and she was crying.
"Ohmigod, what’s wrong, baby?" asked Salym concerned.
"Its … its … its AJ," she finally got out through her sobbing.
Salym’s stomach hit the floor. Her head was spinning, and her heart beat rapidly. "What’s wrong?" she yelled, feeling so sick she could cry.
"The guys were coming here to see you … the driver of the van was going too fast, and he couldn’t stop in time. Nick and AJ … well, you better get to the hospital as fast as you can. Natalie can drive you there now if you want." Faye said, sobbing as if her heart would break. Being the most sensitive one, you could tell that seeing her friends in pain was almost too much to bear.
Salym grabbed her coat and as she brushed past her friend, Faye caught her hand and together the both of them ran down the stairs.

At the Hospital

Salym, Faye and Natalie burst through the doors, tears running down all of their faces. Salym looked deathly white, and she realized that this didn’t feel real, like she was running through a dream. She also realized that Faye and Nat had stopped at the desk to ask where the boys were. The nurse took them to the room straight away.
(Now, you may be asking yourself why a nurse take three sobbing girls to the room of famous singers? Well, this story takes place when the guys weren’t as famous as they are now, and the nurse didn’t know who they were. - Man, as if you wouldn’t know who they were! Sheesh! Anyways, lets get back to the story, shall we?)

The girls were stopped by the guy’s bodyguards outside the door, and as Natalie tried to explain who they were, Brian peered out of the one-sided window looking onto the hospital corridor. He then went to the door, opened it and told their guard that it was OK, and to let the girls in. The guard did so, and Brian went up to Salym and put his arm around her.
"Listen, sweetie, it isn’t that bad. He only got a broken leg, and a concussion. But the concussion isn’t that bad either, so you can go talk to him if you want. Kayti’s already in there with Nick … they’re sharing a room … we thought it was safer that way."
"Thanx, Brian …" Salym said distractedly as she opened the door at the other end of the room.

"Salym!" cried AJ as he spotted her walking in the door.
Salym’s head turned sharply at the sound of his voice, and she started running to him, opening her arms to give him a big bear hug.
"Careful," he warned playfully as her arms wrapped around him. "You could break something else!"
"I… I… I don’t know what to say," Salym finally looked into his big brown eyes, and she could at last see the sincerity in him as he explained that the girl who was in his room was just his friend who had broken up with her boyfriend, and was in need of a sympathetic ear.
"You seem to be good at that, don’t you," Salym said, thinking of how they first met, and how it seemed ironic that it was almost the way they broke up.
Finally beginning to calm down, Salym glanced over at Nick and Kayti. They were oblivious to everyone else, holding hands and talking as if they would never stop. A smile spread over Salym’s face as she turned to AJ. He looked at her quizzically.
"What’s that for?" he asked.
"I think I just realized how much you mean to me," Salym said slowly, not quite knowing herself why she said that. But somehow, she knew that what she had just said was nothing but the truth.
"But one thing I don’t get … what was with that note on my door? If you had just told me that you had a friend coming over, I wouldn’t have had such a heart attack!" Salym wanted to know.
"Well, the thing is … she is kinda my ex-girlfriend. And … man this is hard to tell you … well, I kinda still had feelings for her …"
Salym’s heart jumped and she started feeling sick all over again. "OK … soooooo… what do I say to that?"
"Wait, let me finish…" AJ interrupted, looking pale.
"I thought that she was coming to talk to me about us getting back together … But, I was gonna tell her that I was with you and you are the only one who matters to me. Instead she wanted to talk about her new boyf … which kinda hurt me some, but then I thought about you and it seemed OK. Then when you came knocking, I nearly died. I felt so bad about what you must have been thinking. I couldn’t work out what to say to you, and it nearly broke my heart all over again thinking about you and what you must have been thinking about me … Forgive me?"
"Ummmmmm… let me think about it!" Salym answered playfully, teasing AJ just a little even though she knew that she already had.
"Well???" AJ asked impatiently, not realizing that she was only playing with him.
" Well …" Salym said, as she turned her head toward him and their lips met in a soft, slow kiss.
"Wow, I’ll take that as a yes," AJ said breathlessly.
Just then the doctor came into the room.
"Girls, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave. These guys need their rest and you can see them again tomorrow," she said, looking over Nick’s chart.
"See ya," Salym whispered as she gave AJ a kiss on the cheek. She looked over to see Kayti doing the same thing.
The girls left the room together with smiles that could almost have glowed in the dark. Everyone met them outside and pounced on them, wanting to know details.
Kayti and Salym just smiled as they told the others about the guy’s injuries. Salym could tell that Natalie would press for more personal details when Brian was gone, but for the moment Salym enjoyed keeping them to herself.
