~*Chapter Five*~
When we got to the airport we found out that we had a lot of time before we had to take off. Which was fine with me because it meant that I could spend about 2 hours thinking of all the things that could happen to us, or just me, on the plane.
"Okay guys," said Kevin, "we have a lot of time on our hands, so is anybody hungry?" We all said no. I was never hungry. I've had a hard life so far, and I was always thinking about something that made my stomach hurt. But for some reason I could never tell anybody that. It takes a while for me to know who to trust. So I always just said I wasn't hungry, and then they think I'm sick. Oh well. What they don't know won't hurt 'em.
"Okay, Nick," said Brian, "we have like, 2 hours, and this is a huge airport, so what do you wanna do?"
"I dunno......" I said. Brian sighed. "Why do you always seem so far away?"
"Far away? what's that mean?"
"You're always staring off into space."
"Well, space can be very interesting, and--"
"Nick," said Brian putting his hands on my shoulders and looking me right in the eye, "I know something is wrong, and I'm not leaving this airport until you tell me what it is. So," he said pulling me over to a bench that was away from everyone else, "tell me, I really want to know because whatever it is, I can help, and most importantly, I want to help. And I think you're a little confused with me wanting to help you because you're not used to people caring about you. And that's going to change. Because I think if you tell me what's on your mind, you'll feel better about a lot of things. If you don't want to tell me, I'll understand, but I want you to know that you can trust me."
"I know I can trust you, I can trust all you guys, but some things are just too hard for me to say."
"Yeah, Nick, I know, but I really want you to tell me these things because it's good to get it out because one day you might get so overwhelmed, and you might do something to yourself."
"I've done things to try and hurt myself before, nothing works."
"You have? Oh, Nick." Brian sighed. "Like what though?"
"Um....smoking....and some other things I don't really wanna talk about."
"Okay I understand, but do you still smoke?" he asked.
"Uh....sometimes, but not that much any more."
"Where'd you get cigarettes ?"
"Uh, remember that place I was living when I first met you?"
"You mean that orphanage?"
"Yeah, well there was an older kid there that could buy them."
"Oh, okay, well if I ever see you smoking, I'll kill you. I mean it."
"Okay...." I said slowly. I have to admit that it felt good that I could
finally tell somebody some of the things that were always on my mind. But I didn't tell him everything, there's a lot more.
"So how come you're never hungry? We've all noticed it Nick, I mean I've seen you go days without eating. What's up with that?"
"Well I've never had a big appetite, and--"
"But that doesn't explain why you never eat, you're a teenager Nick, kids your age need to eat. I mean, look at you, you're fifteen years old and look at how small and thin you are."
"Brian--?"
"When I was your age,"
"Brian--?"
"I was much bigger-"
"BRIAN SHUT UP!" I yelled.
"Oh, sorry," he said, smiling, "anyway, so how come?"
"I just....always have a lot of things on my mind." I said in a rush. "Hey, come on, it's almost time to leave and I see the guys over there."
Brian sighed, "I'm never gonna get through to that boy." he said.
All the guys met up and boarded the plane, and were off to Europe.
