~*Chapter Two*~

"If you lay down, lay down beside me …"

AJ’s husky voice cut through the air as his backdancers rehearsed their newly choreographed routine with Leesa. The dance was extremely physical, requiring a lot of slow, sustained movements, and Leesa was finding it difficult to remember everything. AJ noticed and called for a break. He beckoned to Leesa with a crocked finger, and she followed him into the wings panting. He passed her a bottle of water, as he asked her how she was doing.
"Well, it’s not what I expected. God, I don’t know how you do it all the time. And your dancers - sheesh!" she panted, gulping the water.
"It’s pretty much only this routine that’s the hardest. The rest are pretty simple. They look good though. You looked good out there," he added.
"Was that a compliment? Quick, catch me, I think I’m gonna faint!" she cried, and pretended to faint at AJ’s feet.
Brian walked past and grinned. "What a way with girls, huh!"
AJ grinned and helped Leesa up.
"So, how are you finding touring?"
"God, it hasn’t even started yet and already I’m exhausted. Like I said, how do you do it?"
"I dunno… guess it’s called practice. Oh, yeah, and sleep."
"Sleep? Mr. I-Party-All-Night? No way," she teased him, messing his now red hair.
"Watch the do!" he cried, chasing her onto stage.
They stopped short when the rest of the dancers, and the guys from the band all stood up and applauded. AJ was the quickest to recover.
"Thank you, thank you. We’re here for another two nights - enjoy the nachos."
Leesa giggled, and pulled him back to the wings again.
"You are so funny, you know that?"
"Yup I know."
"Did I tell you I like your hair?"
"About 20 times…" he trailed off, looking into her eyes.
She leant closer to him, closing her eyes. As their lips were about to meet, she pulled away.
"Oh God… sorry, I got carried away," Leesa hurriedly explained. "Oh, listen, they’re starting up again. Come on, we better go."
AJ looked hurt, as she hurried back on stage. He followed slowly, his heart racing. So close.

**************************************

It’s not that I can’t live without you
It’s just that I don’t even want to try
Every night I dream about you
Ever since the day we said goodbye…
If I wasn’t such a fool,
right now I’d be holding you
There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do,
Baby if I only knew …

Leesa danced behind Nick, her routine individual as he sung, then synchronised when someone else was singing. The dance wasn’t exactly all too complicated, but it was still difficult for her. As the guys sat down in the chairs for part of the song, the girls began to dance behind them, using the chair to support them as they moved around the stage.
The song finished, and the girls all fell to the floor, exhausted.
Fatima came out, applauding. "Girls, guys, that was excellent. You’ve all worked real well today, so y’all get to leave early. Just make sure you’re here on time tomorrow, kay!"
Howie came hurrying up to AJ.
"Bone?" he asked, as AJ turned around to face him.
"Yup?"
"Well, I was just wondering … I mean I know she’s your best friend and stuff… well, would you mind if I asked Leesa out?" he asked cautiously.
"Oh. That’s unexpected, D. No, no I don’t have a problem at all. You take care of her, you hear?" he said, using all of his will power to stop from screaming "NO! SHE’S MINE!"
"Oh, great. Thanks, man," Howie said as he walked after Leesa, who was leaving the stage.
AJ watched jealously as Howie walked up to Leesa and started talking. His heart wrenched as he watched Howie and Leesa walked off together.
