~*Chapter Three*~

"… and the guy says, no sweat!" Howie finished off, leaving Leesa laughing so hard the people around them were turning around to stare at them.
She finally caught her breath, and looked up from her drink to see Howie staring at her intensely. She became uncomfortable and looked away. He smiled and reached out for her hand. She smiled back, and looked up at him.
"Does this bother you?" he asked, sensing her discomfort.
"What? Us? No, not at all," she said, somewhat unconvincingly.
"Ok, just a tip. I can point out liars from 50 paces," he laughed, relieved as she joined in with his laughter.
"I’m sorry. It’s just that this is all new to me. I’m usually such a shy person… ask AJ. God, some of the stories he’ll tell you," she trailed off, suddenly understanding. "Oh! You mean the whole thing with me and AJ? No, don’t worry. There’s nothing happening there. Believe me. There is a time when I might have wished something would happen, but not anymore. I grew up. I think he did as well. And that’s a good thing … and I’m talking too much again, aren’t I?" she laughed.
"No I like listening to you talk. It gives me time to think about other things… just playing!" he kidded, as he laughed at the shocked look on her face.
"God, will everyone here stop playing!" she cried a little too loudly. Then she looked at Howie, and saw him looking down at the table with a weird look on his face.
"What’s wrong?" she asked, concerned.
"Leesa, I have to tell you something. I know you’re gonna think it’s weird, but here it is. I don’t like it when … well, when you take the Lord’s name in vain. It’s silly, but it’s just something I’ve been brought up with. And I hope that you’ll still think I’m vaguely normal and stuff. But I thought that I should tell you," he said quietly, looking down at his hands the whole time.
She laughed quietly and reached over to pull his face up. "I don’t have a problem with that at all…" she told him softly, as they leaned closer. Their lips met briefly, and Howie felt a spark of electricity flow shock his system. He smiled at Leesa, and she smiled cautiously back.
She wasn’t sure what to think. All she knew was that something wasn’t right. She ignored her feelings though, cos she was having a great night out, for the first time in ages.
Their conversation briefly stopped as the waitress bought out their meals, and then resumed as animated as ever.

AJ stepped out of the limo, meeting some of his old friends outside the club.
Security went into overdrive, as hundreds of screaming girls threw themselves at AJ. He smiled at them, and went over to his friends. They never stopped paying him out about the girls, but to tell you the truth, AJ was getting sick and tired of it all. He just wanted to live his life without his every move being scrutinised. But he loved his job, and wouldn’t give it up for the world. And now that Leesa was touring with them, well, his life suddenly made sense. ‘Leesa… and Howie?’ The thought popped into AJ’s head, and he felt sick all of a sudden, He shook the feeling off quickly, and entered the club with his friends.
**************
Howie and Leesa pulled up alongside the club. Leesa looked at Howie. "Are you sure you can handle this? I mean, I’m a great dancer and everything. Anyways, it’s not a problem if you can’t keep up or anything - just letting you know in advance…" she laughed at the look on his face.
"Listen girl, you’re gonna have the problem keeping up with me!" Howie cried as he pulled her out onto the sidewalk. Security went into overdrive again, as the same hundreds of girls threw themselves at Howie. He was suave, sophisticated and smiled as he and Leesa entered the club.
****************
Howie and Leesa sat down at a table in the far corners of the club. Next to them was a table full of guys, but it wasn’t until they got up to dance that Leesa noticed AJ there, gulping down his drink. She smiled brightly and went up to talk to him.
"Well, howdy doody, Alex!" she smiled, sitting down next to him.
"What… what are you doing here?" he asked, his words slurring.
"I’m here with Howie. Are you ok?" she asked, concerned.
"Fan-bloody-tastic, thanks for asking," he replied, turning away from her sharply.
"Ok. What’s wrong? What did I do?" she asked, almost crying. She’d never seen him like this before, and it upset her.
"Nothing. Go dance - have … what’s it called? Oh yeah, fun!" he cried.
She got up slowly from the table. Howie looked over and noticed the look on her face. He hurried to her, concerned.
"You ok baby?"
"Yeah… come on, let’s dance."
************
Leesa and Howie pulled up outside the hotel. They stepped out of the car, Howie handing the keys over to the attendant. They walked inside, hand in hand, smiling. Leesa seemed to have recovered from her earlier run in with AJ, and now she was all smiles.
As they reached Leesa’s room, Howie pulled her close.
As he leant towards her, she whispered softly, "Now comes the obligatory ‘ I had a wonderful time tonight’…" Howie’s soft kiss silenced her, and the two of them became so involved in their kiss that they didn’t notice AJ step out from his room. He walked past quickly, not wanting to look at what they were doing.
After a while, Leesa broke away, breathless. Howie looked at her intensely.
"You ok?"
"Yeah, I’m fine."
"Ok then. So I’ll see you tomorrow?"
"You betcha."
"Bye."
