~*Chapter Five*~
"Leesa, that was great! Your steps are really coming along well, I’m very impressed," Fatima told her as Leesa finished her "Midnite" routine. Leesa leaned against the wall, and muttered, "Fatima, tell me about Howie."
Fatima laughed, as she moved over to stand next to Leesa.
"Howie? Howie is the sweetest guy I’ve ever met. He’s so nice to everyone, he doesn’t have a complex, and even through all of this fame, he’s still the same guy I met 6 years ago."
Leesa smiled. "Thanks. That was just what I needed to hear."
She looked up to see Howie enter the studio. She felt slightly uncomfortable, and hoped that he hadn’t heard the previous conversation. But he acted normally, with no indication of overhearing the conversation. He walked past Fatima, saying hi, and then made his way over to Leesa.
"Hey you."
"Hey you back."
"Wanna go out tonight?"
"That was abrupt."
"I know, but I’m kinda under the clock. So you wanna?"
"Sure."
"Pick you up at 8?"
"See ya then!"
Leesa sat next to Howie in the booth, as they laughed over the light incident at the rehearsal.
"And you know what AJ said to me? He basically implied that it was my fault the lights blew!" she laughed.
Howie laughed as well, although not as loudly as before. Leesa glanced up at him, concerned.
"You ok?"
"Man, you’re gonna think I’m completely weird…"
"Only possible if you don’t spill. So spill. Now."
"Well, I know that this is totally out of line for me, but I just feel kinda weird when you talk about AJ. I mean, I know you guys have a history and stuff, but… I dunno," he trailed off.
"Well, you’re right. It is outta line, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t understand what you’re saying. But you have to understand that a lot of the things that happen in my life happened because of him. And I’m not gonna completely cut him out of all my conversations with you, but I’ll try to cut back. A compromise, kay?"
"Sounds good to me," he answered, relieved that she had taken it as well as he had hoped.
As they reached Leesa’s room at the end of the night, Howie looked into Leesa’s eyes, and took a deep breath. Leesa felt her heart tighten, and she waited expectantly for the next words to come from his mouth.
"Leesa?"
"Yup?"
"I was wondering … Man, the guys think I’m some Latin lover guy who doesn’t get nervous around girls. But I do… anyways, here goes. Leesa, do you think that you’d like to be my girlfriend?"
"Let me think about it," she answered, her heart in her mouth.
He looked at her incredulously.
She laughed at the look on his face.
"That would be great," she told him smiling.
He smiled back and leaned over for a kiss. The touch of his soft lips against hers still felt wrong somehow, and she didn’t know why. She knew that she was attracted to him, really attracted, but it still felt strange. But again she ignored her feelings and kissed him back, more passionately than she had ever kissed him back before.
Her hand reached back to open the door, and the two fell into the room, still kissing. Leesa broke away, breathless, as she turned to close the door behind her.
Howie came up behind her, and wrapped his arms around her waist as he began to kiss the side of her neck. She turned to face him and they began to kiss again. As they became more and more engrossed, Howie’s fingers almost unconsciously moved under Leesa’s spaghetti strapped stocking top. She broke away, helping him peel off his white shirt, revealing his well-toned upper body. They fell onto the sofa, as their kisses became more and more passionate.
Leesa pulled away to catch her breath. Howie looked at her, almost panting.
"What’s wrong?"
"Oh, nothing," she replied. She lay down on top of his chest, as his fingers brushed through her hair. She lowered her lips to his, and her feelings of confusion slipped away, as her lips pressed against his with such passion that she felt dizzy with happiness.
Howie pulled away, and looked deep into her eyes. "Are you sure?"
"Oh yeah. Believe me, I’m sure."
