~*Chapter Eleven*~
"Two more questions… the lady in blue?"
"Thank you. Jacqui MacKenzie, The Daily Mail. I direct this question towards Leesa. Is it true that you still do not have a manager?"
Leesa looked up from her magazine that she had smuggled into the press conference.
"Yes, it’s true. I have no manager at the moment, one of my associates is assisting me until I find a new one."
"Last question…ummm, the lady in white?"
"Ta very much. Michele Lake, The British Star. I would also like to direct this question to Leesa. Leesa, is it true that you are a Witch?"
The press went wild, taking pictures as Leesa looked up, pale. Her eyes widened, and she fell silent. The rest of the guys in the group looked at her incredulously, except for AJ and Howie. Leesa retaliated quickly.
"I would like to ask you a question, Miss… Lake was it? Would there be a problem if I was a Christian? Would there be a problem if I was Jewish? Would there be a problem if I was an Atheist? And I’ll answer these questions for you. No, there would not be a problem. But to be a Witch? Then I have a problem right? Well, let me tell you right now, my religious beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with this tour, my career or my public life. But in answer to your question, yes, I am a Witch. I’m also proud of it. You can make of my religion what you will, but one thing remains. It is none of your business, and I would appreciate no more questions on the subject," Leesa spouted angrily as she stood up and left the room.
Kevin also stood up, and spoke loudly over the noise in the room. AJ looked at the swinging door through which Leesa had ran, and wanted more than anything to run after her. However, he knew that if he did, the press would have a field day. He could see it now… "AJ and Leesa… More Than Friends?"
"Can I have your attention please? Hello?" Kevin shouted over the noise.
The room eventually quieted down, and Kevin cleared his throat before he began to speak.
"I think that what has happened here is something that you will no doubt write about. However, I must ask that Leesa’s request be heard. Surely religion has no consequence on the upcoming tour, and I think that Leesa’s request is not unreasonable. I ask you to tread around this subject lightly, and next time consider the consequences of your questions. Thank you."
The rest of the group got up simultaneously, and filed out of the room. The frantic whirring of cameras followed them out of the room.
***************************
AJ headed for his car, his mind racing as to where Leesa would be. His heart was racing, he felt so bad for Leesa. He couldn’t comprehend how she would be feeling, but he knew that even if he sat with her, just holding her, she would feel better. She needed his support right now. The only problem was, he didn’t know where she would be.
As he drove up to the hotel where they were all staying, he caught a glimpse of Leesa’s lemon yellow 4WD taking off around the corner. He followed her, and kept following her to a park just down the road from the hotel. He watched as she climbed out of the car and made her way over to the swings, where she sat, slowly swinging. He idly climbed out of his car, and made his way over to her. She looked up in surprise, as he sat down next to her, facing the opposite direction she faced.
He looked over at her, and his heart nearly broke in two when he saw the tears resting in the corners of her eyes. He reached out to take her hand, and they sat, slowly rocking, not saying anything, hand in hand.
After awhile, Leesa felt comfortable to start talking. As she began to speak, AJ just listened, not saying anything. He just let her talk, and say what she wanted.
"I just don’t understand what the big deal is. I mean, it’s religion. Who cares? No one cares if you’re a Catholic, or Jewish, or an Atheist. But as soon as you believe in something that is a bit different, people get scared. But it’s not fair to put all of their fears onto me. I shouldn’t be responsible for the way people think. It’s my life, and my religion. I don’t go around saying that everyone should become a Witch, or reject their other religions. I simply go about my business, minding my own business. What is so hard to understand? I’m sorry about the way I acted. I know it was immature, but I was just so frustrated. I mean, that whole thing with Howie, and then the press. I don’t think that I want to know what they’re gonna say about this in the papers. AJ? All I want to know is you’ll still be here for me, through every thing that is bound to happen between now and the rest of the tour. I don’t think that I can go through this without you," she finished talking quietly, looking at him, pleading with her eyes.
He simply squeezed her hand and said, "You know I’ll always be here for you. That’s what a best friend is for."
She squeezed his hand back.
"Thank you."
