~*Chapter Twelve*~
The final dress rehearsal came to a close. As the lights switched off in preparation for the night’s concert, AJ jumped off the stage into the wings, where Leesa was waiting for him. She wasn’t in their finale - or she was, but as a surprise to the audience she would come out and sing with the guys during the inevitable encore they were sure to be asked for. She was to leave the stage before the guys, so the guys could take their ‘bows’ alone. Leesa didn’t mind at all. The sooner she was off stage, the better she felt.
He walked up to her, sweating, and panting the way she had done only minutes before.
"Cool, huh?"
"You guys are really good out there. You’re gonna have the greatest concert tonight," she told him, smiling.
"You are too, don’t forget. You nervous yet?"
"A little. But I think I will be more like ten minutes before I’ll go out."
"I’ll be there, kay!"
"Ta very much Xander!"
"Ta very much? What is that?" he laughed.
"I dunno. I think it was what that English chick said before she asked me if I was a Witch. Remember?" she asked, walking over to his dressing room with him.
"Not really. I only remember the look on your face when she asked the question."
"Well, it’s over now. I don’t care anymore," she stated, standing outside his room, waiting for him to get dressed.
He laughed at her, and she peered around the corner at him.
"That better not be laughter directed at me!"
"You are such a … what’s the word? Hypocrite!"
"Why, pray tell, am I a hypocrite?" she asked, puzzled.
"Cos last time I waited for you to get dressed, you made a big fuss, and said that it shouldn’t matter. Why are you waiting outside?"
"Sorry, just thought that you might want your privacy."
"Lees, I have no privacy anymore. Come in. It’s nothing you ain’t seen before," he laughed as he grabbed her hand and pulled her into the room.
She laughed and sat down on the bed. AJ walked into the adjoining bathroom and jumped into the shower. Leesa began to laugh again as she heard him singing. He was singing one of her songs, Midnite.
She walked into the bathroom, and began to sing with him. AJ stopped for a moment as he heard Leesa’s voice, and then started again.
The only problem was, AJ didn’t know the words yet. He was getting them horribly confused, and Leesa stopped singing, she was laughing so hard.
She sat down on the closed toilet, and peered in the mirror, which was slowly fogging up. She reached up and drew on the misted mirror with her index finger. Stars, moons and planets dominated her drawing, covering the entire mirror. She drew a shooting star over her mirror face, a cresent moon over the top of her head, and stars and planets every where else. She stood back and looked at her creation. It was really cool, because where her finger had traced the pictures was clear, and the rest of the mirror was as white as snow, cos AJ liked his showers HOT! Leesa didn’t understand how he did it. She would have been burnt to a crisp in that shower.
The rushing water from the shower was stopped, and AJ’s muffled voice came from behind the screen.
"Lees? Pass me the robe?"
She grabbed the robe and tossed it over the screen. A garbled reply came from AJ.
"You threw it in the water! Get me another one! … please?"
Leesa shook her head, laughing at his un-coordination, and grabbed the spare robe from the drawer beside his bed. As she pulled it out, a piece of paper fell out along with it. As the piece of paper floated to the floor, Leesa caught a glimpse of AJ’s handwriting. She quickly snatched it from the floor, and her heart in her mouth, began to read.
Leesa,
This is yet another letter I’ll probably never give to you. But the only way I can tell you this is in a letter. Cos I know that if I tell you this, our entire relationship would change and I couldn’t do that to you. Or to me. But I have to say it some way otherwise I’ll go insane.
Lees, for awhile now I’ve had feelings for you. Strong feelings, too. And it’s something that I’ve never felt before.
I think I love you…
Leesa looked up from the letter, her heart pounding, as she heard AJ’s voice carry from the bathroom.
"What are you gonna do, let a poor guy freeze in here?" he called.
"S… sorry, I’m coming," Leesa hurridly explained, shoving the letter quickly back into the drawer.
She walked back into the bathroom, where AJ sat, shaking. He had a small towel wrapped around his waist, and the lighting in the bathroom forced Leesa to pay attention to his upper torso, and the water that had beaded there. She handed him the robe, looking away shyly. Her tummy felt weird. She had never thought that this would happen to her … ever. Her best friend? It just felt… incestuous almost.
AJ noticed the look on Leesa’s face as he threw the robe on, and reached out to put his hand on her shoulder. She jumped, as if his touch burned her.
He looked at her, concerned.
"What’s wrong?"
"N…nothing’s wrong. I guess I’m just nervous," she stammered, uncomfortable. He wasn’t about to be fooled that easily, though.
"Come on Lees, you can tell me," he breathed, walking over to the dresser. She was glad for the space between them, and took the opportunity to try to compose herself.
She took a deep breath and made her way over to the drawer containing the letter. She heard AJ take a sharp intake of breath behind her as she opened the drawer and pulled out the letter.
"What is this?"
