ALL THIS TIME

Chapter 26-30

"Hey sweetie, you are not going to believe what happened at the office today."  Kathleen called out to Kyle, who was trying to study a case file on one of his clients, as she strolled into his study.

"Don't tell me you and Ramsey actually had a day when you didn't get into some kind of argument about something?"  Kyle questioned his fiancee while closing the folder to greet her with a smile.

"No, I didn't say I had a totally unbelievable day at work Kyle."  Kathleen continued as she she gave Kyle an impish grin, "I met the woman Chris has told us about from Port Charles."

Kyle asked, "You mean the one he talks about when he gets really smashed?  From the way he has always mentioned things about her I wouldn't have thought that she would ever come here to see him.  He said that was the one woman who had broken his heart."

"Well, she showed up at our office and it was amusing to see the shocked look Chris got when he realized that she was there to see him.  There have been so few times that I've been able to catch him completely speechless."  Kathleen offered up to Kyle after she wne over to sit down in her favorite chair in his study.

"Speaking of speechless, I would think that it would be such a rarity for that to happen to either one of you."  Kyle joked as Kathleen gave him a dirty look.

She crossed her arms and glared at him, "I resent you saying that to me Kyle.  I have you know that I do not talk all of the time."

Kyle burst out laughing at her, "Honey, I've known you my whole life and the words you and speechless do not belong in the same sentence together."

Kathleen huffed and began to get up from her seat when Kyle crossed his desk to come over to where she was sitting.  "Don't try to get mad at me for telling you the truth.  You know I can't help it when I get the chance to tease you about something.  I just love to get you all riled up at me.  I like getting you mad so then I can make up with you."

"Okay, I'll let these untrue comments about my personality slide this time, if you will promise to call Chris and see if we can all go out with him and this woman from his past.  I have to get the scoop on what is going on with them."

Kyle rolled his eyes at her, "You must have taken a liking to her if you are the one instigating me to call Chris to make plans for a double date.  Usually I have to beg  you to go out with Chris and whoever he is dating at the time since you can't seem to stand whoever he is taking out.":

"I can tell that this woman is different from all those bimbos he usually takes out.  I think I have met the woman who could put Ramsey in his place.  You should have seen the two of them together this afternoon."  Kathleen said as she rose to stand up, "I need to get to be good buddies with this one since she has already told me that she has some extremely interesting stories to tell me about Chris."

Kyle put his arms around Kathleen, "You never cease to amaze me Kathleen.  I bet poor Chris will never stand a chance between the two of you.   I promise that I will call him tomorrow because right now I think you and me need to do a little making up."

"I like the sound of that,"  Kathleen replied as she pulled him in for a kiss.

Shelly had tucked Madison into bed and read her a bedtime story before her sweet little niece had drifted off to sleep.  Shelly was glad to be taking care of Madison since she kept her too busy to think about all her problems with Jack.  Now that it had grown quiet in the apartment with Madison being asleep and Jessica out at the library studying with some of her friends, Shelly decided that she would read a book for a while before she went to bed.  She went to the bookcase to select a novel when the ringing of the telephone interrupted her search.

Shelly picked up the phone and answered, "Hello."

"I need to speak with Shelly Lambert please,"  the voice on the line seemed vaguely familiar to Shelly but she couldn't quite place it for a moment then she recognized the voice that was calling her.

"Andy, what are you doing calling me here at my sister's apartment?"  She paused then added, "Wait a minute, I don't even want to know how you found out that I am staying her with her.  Is there something that you need from me?  I'm not scheduled to come back to work until next week."

"Uh well, I was wondering if you could come by the precinct sometime tomorrow.  I needed to ask you some questions about the position you had applied for a few months back."  Andy asked her as he tapped his pencil on his workdesk waiting for a reply from her.

Shelly's voice brightened, "You mean that you are actually going to consider me for the job opening in investigations for the narcotics division?"

"Don't get your hopes up yet Shelly," he cautioned her.  "I just wanted to talk to you about the job and for us to go over a few things that would be required of you if you were accepted for that particular position.  So are you interested in coming by tomorrow?"

"Sure, how about I come by around 10:00 am?"

"Sounds good to me.  I'll see you then."

"Thanks Andy.  I'll be there.  Bye."  Shelly hung up the phone and walked to the window hoping that maybe her lucky break was going to come through in her professional life.  It seemed like her personal life had been anything but lucky since Livvie had told them that she was expecting Jack's child.

Chris and Eve walked along the shoreline of the beach until they came back to the house.  Ther were still holding hands as Chris opened the door for them.  Once inside he turned to face her and Eve couldn't resist the urge any longer to touch him.  Her hand traced his neck and traveled upward to touch his cheek.  She quietly spoke, "I want to lose myself in you."

He responded to her simple request by gently wrapping his arms around her.  "Eve, you're supposed to feel like that when you fall in love," he said with a sincerity in his voice that humbled her.  "I want to lose myself in you, too."  He bent down to kiss her, then began kissing her like he would never stop.  His kisses became passionate in their intensity towards her and ignited a hunger in Eve for him even more.

Chris' mouth never left hers as he lowered her unto the floor.  He proceeded to carefully undress her as the the ocean breeze softly blew over them from the opened doors of the deck.  Eve followed suit and helped him out of his barriers of clothes so they could be free to explore one another.

Every graze of his lips upon her skin kindled a fire within Eve as Chris expressed his longing for her.  Each touch Chris gave her lifted her higher as her passion for him became as strong his was for her.  Eve clung to Chris as she entrusted herself to his tender touches.  Chris had never imagined that such joy could exist within his heart as he reveled in her responses to him.

He gazed down into her face feeling amazed and touched by the tenderness in her expression towards him.  He devoted himself to pleasuring her as he began to slowly move within her loving her completely with all of the love that he felt for her.  All the love that he had carried within him since the time he had first saw her lovely face.

They moved in unision as they sought fulfillment within one another's arms.  For a moment he froze within her embrace as they reached ecstasy together.  His arms came around her and held on to her so tightly.  "Don't let go," he whispered to her as he kissed her once more.  "Please don't let go of me."

"I won't," she promised as she continued to hold onto him.

"I need for you to love me Eve.  Someone has to because I have been so alone my whole life.  It feels like I have needed you forever and now that you are here, I'm afraid my love won't be enough reason for you to stay."

She carressed his face as the tears spilled from the corners of her eyes.  "Chris, I do love you and I swear to you that nothing or no one will ever be able to take me away from you.  I'm yours as long as you will have me."

Chris smiled and whispered to her, "Then I won't settle for anything less than a lifetime from you Eve."

chapter 27

Livvie stood at the front door of the lighthouse for what seemed liked forever gathering up the nerve to knock on the door.  She dreaded telling her father and Lucy the truth because she knew how disappointed they would be in her actions.  She almost turned around to leave when suddenly the door swung open to reveal Kevin and Lucy apparently heading out from the inside.  Seeing one another at opposite ends of the door startled everyone involved.

"Livvie, I guess we must be on the same wavelength since Lucy and I were on our way out to visit you. Come on in honey," Keving gestured to his daughter as he led her into the lighthouse.

"I guess the universe just knew we all needed to be together tonight," Lucy added as she placed an arm around Livvie's shoulders.

Livvie pulled away slightly from Lucy's touch and said, "Dad, Lucy, I need to talk to you both about something.  I almost left without coming in here to bother you because I don't want to face you after what I have done."

Lucy's hand went to her mouth before asking, "Oh no, Livvie, you haven't went and done something you'll regret about this baby?  You have to know that it doesn't matter what Jack decides to do.  We will help you whatever the outcome is with him."

Kevin's voice cracked, "Please tell me that this baby is okay."

Livvie looked to them both realizing that they thought she must have tried to terminate her pregnancy.  "No, I wouldn't hurt this baby for anything in the world.  He or she is already a part of me.  You have to believe me on that."

"Of course we believe you Livvie.  You have never given me any reason to doubt you before now,"  Kevin admitted as he breathed a sigh of relief.

Hearing Kevin's words to her broke Livvie's heart.  She had betrayed their trust and now she would have to face the consequences.  "I need to tell you the whole truth about my pregnancy.  Not just the part I wanted you to believe."

"Go ahead, we're listening,"  Lucy encouraged her to tell them what was on her mind.

Livvie shakily replied, "Jack isn't the father of my baby.  I'm so sorry that I lied to you both and lead you to believe that he was responsible.  I was so desparate to get him back into my life.  I have done a terrible thing and I hope that in time you will be able to forgive me for all of the trouble I have caused everyone."

Kevin and Lucy turned to one another then back to face Livvie.  Kevin asked, "Have you told Jack yet?  He deserves to know what is going on with you."

Livvie nodded, "I talked to him yesterday and apologized for this whole mess.  I know you both must hate me for lying to you this way,"  she cried as they came around her.

Kevin made Livvie look up to him, "I don't hate you Livvie.  You're my daughter and I would do anything for you no matter what that took out on my part.  I'm just glad that you came forward with the truth before this lie did further damage to everyone around you."

"Livvie, we love you.  Granted, we weren't expected you to tell us this tonight, but there is no way we are going to turn away from you.  We are a family first and foremost.  I'm thankful that this child is okay and that is all that matters right now."  Lucy swiped away at her own tears, "We will work through this and come out stronger for it knowing that all we have to do is be honest.  Our family will just have to make some apologies for our behavior the other day at the wedding at the scene that we caused."

"We'll do that tomorrow.  I think that we all need to get some rest tonight, especially you young lady.  You are going to have to take extra special care of yourself since you are going to make Lucy and I grandparents."

Lucy looked at Kevin at the implications of his words, "Oh my goodness, I'm going to be a grandmother.  I didn't think about that."  Lucy's amazement lightened the mood considerably between the three of them.

"You are right Dad.  I promise from now on that I won't ever lie to you again."

"That't my girl,"  he said as they went upstairs to get settled down for the night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There he had said it.  He had been more honest with Eve tonight sharing his feelings than he had ever been with anyone before in his entire life.  He tried to gauge Eve's reaction to his declaration of love and how much he needed her in his life.
Eve's eyes widened in surprise as she took in Chris's admission of his ove, need and fears about her.  What they had shared this evening had been without a doubt the most intimate experience of her life.  From the moment she had confessed to Chris that she thought Madison was his child, to admitting being in love with him, to their tender lovemaking, the night had been so full of emotions.  Hope began to take form in her mind that maybe they could make this relationship work with one another.
Chris pushed up on his side and asked her, "Would you like to go to my bedroom?  I'm thinking my bed might be a tad more comfortable than the floor."
Eve smiled, "As long as I'm with you it doesn't matter where we end up Chris."
"I'll hold you to that statement for future references,"  he said as he started to believe that things were actually going to work out for them.  He was feeling something, could it be called hope?  This feeling had been a concept in his life that seemed almost foreign to him.  He moved to get up taking her up along with him.  He guided them both into his bedroom.
Eve had grabbed his shirt from the floor and wrapped it around her as she took in the sights of his bedroom.  It faced the ocean and she started grinning thinking about all of the wonderful times she hoped they would share together in this room.
Chris asked, "What are you thinking about Lambert?"
"All of the things we could do in this room together,"  she teased as she pressed her body close to Chris to kiss him again.
"I like the sound of that.  Care to give me an illustration?"  he asked as he playfully started kissing her neck.
"I'll be glad to," she replied as she pulled him down onto the bed.
"Good morning, beautiful,"  he quietly said to Eve as she roused up from her peaceful slumber to find herself surrounded by Chris' loving embrace.
"Good morning to you,"  she snuggled closer to him and pressed a kiss upon his chest.  "I think that I could get used to waking up like this in your arms every morning."
"I'd like for you to do that Eve.  I've waited so long to be able to hold you like this.  I was almost afraid to go to sleep last night because I thought when I woke up it would have only been a dream and you really wouldn't be here with me."  Chris honestly admitted as he began to gently brush away her hair from her forehead to reveal her gorgeous eyes.
She looked up to him, "Last night was real Chris.  We finally made our way to one another despite all of the obstacles that have been standing in our way.  Now I know what you have been trying to show me for such a very long time."
"What's that?"  he questioned while tracing patterns on her back with the faintest of touches from his fingertips.
"That what we have together with each other is incredible.  You have opened up my heart and my eyes to a whole new world.  I love you Chris,"  she said as she raised up slightly from her position to kiss his lips.
"I love you too Eve.  I want to show you how much you mean to me,"  he confessed as he kissed her tenderly.
Eve returned his kiss then eased back to ask him, "Chris, will you promise me one thing?"
"Haven't you realized by now that all you have to do is ask me and if I possibly can, I will do whatever you want?"
She studied him intently for a few moments, "Promise me that you won't ever leave me like you did all those years ago.  I don't ever want to have that feeling that I have lost you and don't know where to find you.  I need you and I don't want to be without you in my life again."
He placed his hands on both sides of her face as he stared straight into her eyes and solemnly promised, "I promise you Eve that I won't ever take off like that again.  I'll always be here for you."
~~~~~~~~~~~

Jessica had already dropped off Madison at pre-k on her way to class at the university so Shelly was all be herself at Eve's apartment.  She stood at the closet trying to figure out which outfit she should wear for her interview with Andy.  She had wanted a chance to prove herself at the police department and perhaps Andy was finally going to let her show him that she had the right stuff for this job.  All her life she had wanted to make a difference and help the people of this town.  Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks had taught her how cruel life could be and she knew she could make things better for the citizens of Port Charles.  Another factor that motivated her was the lack of women in the upper level jobs on the force.  She wanted to prove to everyone that women were just as capable as men to handle the job of being a detective.  She decided to wear her navy suit and completed getting ready.

She arrived at the police station shortly before 10:00 am and walked straight to Andy's office doing her best to avoid the interested stares from her coworkers.  They all knew she and Jack were supposed to be on their honeymoon this week and she had no doubt that the rumor mill had been going nonstop with speculation over what had happened to stop their wedding.  She knocked on the door and let herself into his office.

Andy was on the telephone and when he looked up and saw Shelly, he motioned for her to take a seat.  He finished his call and directed his full attention to her.  "I'm glad you could come in to see me this morning Shelly."

Shelly inquired, "What did you need to speak to me about Andy?"

"I was curious as to why you had applied for the position of detective in the narcotics division?"

"I feel that I am more than qualified to handle the responsibilites that the job of being a detective would ensue.  Andy, you know how hard I have worked here since I joined the force after I moved back to Port Charles."

"You do realize that your fiancee has also put in for this same position, don't you?"  Andy asked her wondering what her response would be to his question.

"Ex-fiancee.  Jack and I are no longer involved with one another.  I would have thought by now that was old news around the station."  She quipped back to him as she placed her hands upon his desk, "I can handle this job and if you give me a chance to prove myself, you won't be sorry."

"I don't have to tell you how dangerous it will be.  There will be times you will work undercover and be put into situations that will be very volatile.  You are at the top of my list of candidates, but I want you to really think this over before I can  think about offering the job to you.  Are you willing to put yourself in this precarious position?  You also know that some of the men around here think that a woman won't be able to handle the pressure of this job."

"We are not in the stone ages anymore.  I can do this and I want this job more than anything."  Shelly stated her case to him in the hopes that he would take her seriously.

Andy nodded, "I'll take all of this into consideration and I'll get back to you in a couple of days to let you know what I have decided."

Shelly rose and extended her hand to Andy's to shake, "Thank you Andy for letting me come in and talk with you about this job."  They shook hands and Shelly left his office.  She was in such deep thought that she didn't even notice that Jack was standing in the hallway and she ran straight into him.

"Shelly, what are you doing here?"

"Well, seeing as this is the place that I work at too, it would only seem natural that I came in to work for a little while today Jack.  Now if you will excuse me, I've got plans for the rest of my day."  Shelly brushed past him as she attempted to walk around him.

"Word has it that you've been in to see Andy this morning?  What is that all about?"  Jack asked as he grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving.

"Word sure does travel fast, since I've only been here for about thirty minutes.  You know what?   It is really none of your damn business as to why I came in this morning, so I'll be seeing you Jack."  She shrugged off his hand that was on her arm and pulled away from him.

"Don't tell me that Andy is considering you for that job?  Shelly, you know how dangerous that job could be.  I wouldn't know what to do if anything happened to you."

"I'm not an object of your concern anymore, so stay out of my life."  She huffed as she walked on down the hallway trying to escape this conversation she had gotten into with Jack.

She made it outside to the street when he spun her around to face him, "Shelly, I have had about enough of your smartass attitude towards me and we are going to get a few things settled right now."  He took her by the arm and lead her to their apartment all the while Shelly glared at him since she was unable to pull away from his grasp upon her without making a scene to the people on the street.

Chapter 29

Jack opened the door to their apartment and pulled  a very angry Shelly in along behind him.  She yanked her arm away from his strong hold upon her that he had held the entire way back from the police station.  "Jack, I want you to leave me alone.  Let's just accept the fact that things didn't work out for us, cut our losses, and go our separate ways."

Jack shook his head, "No, I can't accept that.  I won't do that to us Shelly."

"Don't you understand?  There is no us anymore.  You threw any chance of us being happy away when you got Livvie pregnant."  Shelly reached for the doorknob as she tried to make her way out of the apartment.

"If you would talk to me instead of running away, maybe I could get the chance to tell you that Livvie's baby isn't mine."

Shelly stopped in her tracks and turned around to face him, "What are you talking about?  I was there when Kevin told us that Livvie was pregnant.  Did you decide that you couldn't take on the responsibility that goes along with being a parent?  I hate to break it to you, but it just doesn't work out that way."

"No, I didn't decide that I wasn't going to have a place in the baby's life.  Livvie admitted to me that I wasn't the father.  She confessed that she had lied about the paternity of her child to Kevin and Lucy.  After she did that Kevin lost it and they came to defend her honor and wrecked our wedding."  Jack explained to her.

Shelly took a step back away from him, "So you're telling me that she was lying to us?  I swear I'm going to kill that hussy!"

Jack tried to calm Shelly down,  "She's not worth going after despite what she has done.  She has alot of emotionaly problems."

"Don't tell me you forgave her for completely trashing our lives with her outrageous lies?"  She noted that Jack wouldn't answer her question, "Why should I be surprised?  You never have seen her for what she really is, which is a lying, manipulative, little tramp."

"Shelly, not to make excuses for her, but she has had a hard life."

Shelly blasted him, "Please don't go there.  Hard life, you say?  Forgive me for not feeling any sympathy towards her for the poor pitiful life she has had.  Jack, when are you going to wake up?  I'd say if anyone has lived a hard life between the three of us, that it is not her.  I don't see either one of us going around crying all the time about what a terrible childhood we had to endure growing up."

Jack pleaded, "Forget about Livvie.  I just want us to be able to move past this and begin to work on us trying to get back together.  Shelly, I'm sorry this happened and ruined our wedding."

"So I'm supposed to forget all about you betraying my trust in you?  You must take me for a bigger fool that I originally thought."  Shelly countered back to his plea for understanding and forgiveness from her.  "You lied to me for months and now that you are not the father of this baby, I'm to welcome you back into my life with open arms?  Not in this lifetime and if you think that is what is going to happen since Livvie let you off the hook then you are more delusioned about us and our future that I thought you were."

"I'm not delusional about our love Shelly.  It's real and deep down you know that what I'm saying is the truth.  We belong together."  Jack reached out to her trying to break down the walls she had put between them since their failed nuptials of the other day.

Shelly dismissed his gesture towards her with a shrug, "Jack, maybe I should be going to thank Livvie for what she did to us instead of wanting to tear her apart for her behavior.  At least she woke me up from the fairy tale life I had been dreaming about.  She brought me back to the cold harsh reality that those fairy tales of love don't exist in the real world."

"Our love does exist, you can't deny it,"  he confidently stated to her.

"Not anymore, at least not for me.  I won't let you break my heart again.  Please don't bother me anymore,"  She tearfully requested as she turned and walked out the door.

Chris hurried into his office, hating the fact that he was running so late for work because he knew Kathleen would harass him about being late.  Luckily, he didn't see Kathleen as he rushed into his office, pulled on his lab coat and readied himself to get started on his day's work.

"Running late this morning, Dr. Ramsey?"  Kathleen questioned him as she handed him a patient chart, "Gee, I wonder what could have possibly happened to you since you're already over an hour late for work?"

Chris quickly scanned the chart and told her, "I'm not in the mood for your wisecracks today Kathleen.  By the way, how many times have you drug yourself into this office late because you and Kyle couldn't tear yourselves away from one another?"

Kathleen grinned, "I knew it."

"Knew what?" he asked her, irritated by her remarks she had made in the short time they had been around one another this morning.

"Somebody got lucky last night," she laughed as she turned to go to the next patient who was waiting for her.

Chris chuckled, slightly amused by her apt observation as he went to check on his first patient of the day.

Eve went to the guest bedroom to find a few of her things after she got out of the shower and had wrapped a towel around her.  She smiled to herself as she thought back to the previous night she had shared with Chris.  Their lovemaking had been absolutely magical.  She was convinced more than ever that Chris was the man of her dreams.  He had awakened feelings within her that she hadn't even fully realized had existed before.  She was actually in love with Chris Ramsey.  Who would have ever imagined that happening?  Certainly not her as she had constantly pushed him away from her whenever he had seemed to get to close to her back in Port Charles.  She was so thankful that she had taken Shelly's advice and came to him.

The ringing of the telephone brought her out of her reverie.  She wondered if she should answer the phone or let the answering machine pick up the call.  She decided if it was Chris then she would pick up as soon as she heard his voice over the machine.  As the message started recording on the machine, she realized that it was Jack's voice and she answered anyway, "Hey Jack, what's up with you?"

Jack was startled to hear Eve's voice on the line, "Eve, is that you?  What are you doing at Chris' house?"

"Shelly didn't tell you that I came down here to see Chris?"

"Well, Shelly hasn't been too much for conversation with me in the past few days," he informed her.  " I was just calling to leave Chris a message to call me after he got home from work today.  He left so suddenly that we didn't get the chance to connect with one another again."

"I'll tell him to call you when he gets home."

"Thanks Eve.  I guess with you being down there that this means that you both have quit being so stubborn and finally admitted you care for one another?"  Jack hopefully asked her.

"Yeah, we finally told each other what we felt for one another last night."

"I'm happy for you both."

"Thank you Jack.  Listen, don't give up on Shelly.  She will eventually come around and see that things will work out for you two."

He sighed, "I'm trying to stay positive that it will all work out.  I have to tell you that she isn't making it too easy for me right now.  I'll talk to you later.  Take care of my big brother for me."

"I will.  See ya."  Eve said before clicking off the phone and going back to get dressed.

She heard someone at the front door and went to  check it out, "Chris, I thought you wouldn't be home until later."  She stopped short when she saw a woman standing in the doorway.

"Who the hell are you?"  The lanky blonde rudely asked Eve as she stared at her being dressed only in a towel.

Eve clutched the towel closer to her body and replied, "Funny, I was just about to ask you the same question."

All This Time
chapter 30

The blonde gave Eve a look of complete disdain, "Listen, whoever you are, I don't know what you are doing here at Chris' house, but I suggest you get dressed and leave."

"I'm going to get dressed, but the only person who is leaving here is most definately you," Eve told her in no uncertain terms as she went to grab some clothes and hastily put them on.

Eve returned to find this intruder at the bar, making herself at home and pouring herself a drink.  The blonde spoke again, "You obviously have no idea who I am."

"I really don't care who you are," Eve offered up to her, standing taller to glare at her.

Cheri quickly tossed back her drink and walked around the room, admiring the various objects in Chris' living room then turned back to look over Eve once more.  "You're not from around here, are you?"

"What clued you in on that assumption?  Was it the lack of the obvious southern drawl that you seem to possess?  Or could it be that I have been fortunate enough not to have met you before now since I came to visit Chris?"  Eve sarcastically threw back at her as she crossed her arms and prepared to stand her ground against her.

"You really need to work on those manners of yours, honey."  Cheri replied as she gave Eve a fake smile.

"Don't honey me.  I've already told you to leave.  As you can see, Chris isn't here right now.  I'll be more than happy to tell him that you dropped by uninvited, if you would give me your name."

"Just tell him Cheri came by to see him.  He'll know who it is since Chris and I are extremely close," Cheri sneered as she walked out the door.

"I bet you are," Eve muttered as she slammed the door behind Cheri's retreating figure.  Eve's temper had flared up so quickly at this obnoxious woman who had walked into Chris' house like she owned it.  She stared at the closed door wondering how Chris was involved with that woman.  Eve knew one thing for sure, she didn't like her one little bit.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Chris had finished up with his last patient for the day when Kathleen approached him, "Chris, I've set up some interviews for the new receptionist job."
"Good, I'm going to trust your judgement on this one, so interview them and decide which one you think will do the best job and hopefully be able to get along with you.  I know finding someone compatible to you might take a while," Chris commented to her trying not to laugh as the saw the evil look Kathleen cut to him with his last comment directed at her.
"I'll have you know Ramsey, that I am not hard to get along with.  You are the one that is terrible in that department,"  she huffed.
"Yeah right.  By the way, ask Kyle about us all having dinner tomorrow night instead of tonight."  Chris added as he began to search his desk drawers for something.
"Okay, you've got big plans with Eve for tonight?"  Kathleen inquired as she peered over the desk to see what Chris was doing.
"Well, I hope so, if I can find what I am looking for," Chris replied even though he had gotten a worried look upon his face.
"What are you looking for?"  Kathleen asked as she put down her stack of folders upon Chris' desk that was already in a state of disarray.
"I could have sworn I left it in here," Chris frantically started pulling out all types of things onto the desktop.
Kathleen walked over behind him, "Let me guess, is it a small grey box?"
"How did you know?"  Chris gave her a curious look.
"Left hand side, bottom drawer, stuck in the very back far corner under some papers," Kathleen informed him.  "I was wondering who would ever get that little trinket that you had stashed back in there."
"Once again, why I am surprised that you know precisely where everything is kept in my desk drawers?"  Chris asked reaching for the bottom drawer and pulling out the box from the exact spot Kathleen had described.
"Chris, it pays to have an inquisitive employee sometimes," Kathleen smugly told him as she grabbed the box away from him.
"Give that back," Chris ordered her.
"Hold on, I just wanted to look at it again," she opened the box to reveal its contents.  "I must say that you have great taste Ramsey."
"Of course I do," he snapped the box shut as he plucked the box out of her hands and placed it in his shirt pocket as he began to make his way to the door.
"Hey, before you go, I just want to wish you good luck.  I hope everything turns out the way your want it to tonight," Kathleen grinned as she retrieved the folders from his desk.
"Thanks Kathleen.  I appreciate you helping me find this and I promise to give you the details in the morning."  Chris offered up as he put his hand on the door.
"You better," she warned, "or you'll be in serious trouble with me.  I'll rearrange everything in your desk where you can't find a thing."
"See you tomorrow," Chris smiled as he headed out looking forward to spending his evening with Eve.
Chris finally arrived home after the few stops he had made on the way to ensure a perfect evening for Eve and him.  Getting out of the car he checked to see if he had everything that he needed.  Grabbing up everything into his arms, he walked to the front door and opened it, barely managing not to spill his heavy load.  He called out, "Eve, where are you?"  Not getting a response from her, he placed his bags on the kitchen counter and took the bouquet of roses in his hand to find Eve.  He noticed the french doors to the deck were slightly opened so he went to see if Eve was outside.
Eve was lying on one of his lounge chairs apparently asleep.  Chris leaned down to place a kiss upon her neck.  Eve stirred at the gesture and turned over to face him.  She yawned and moved to sit up as he held out the flowers for her and smiled, "These are for you sweetheart."
Eve lowered her sunglasses to reveal her eyes to him, "Are you sure that you don't want to give them to your girlfriend instead of me?"
Chris raised his eyebrow at her question, "Eve, what are you talking about?"
"You had a visitor today.  A tall, lanky blonde that goes by the name of Cheri.  Apparently she has a key to your house, seeing as she startled the hell out of me by waltzing in here like she owned the place.  Care to explain that one Ramsey?"  Eve asked as she made a move to get up from the chair to face him.
