- history: Before Chichiri was a monk, he had two good friends, Hikou and and Kouran. Kouran was engaged to Chichiri, but Hikou was in love with her. One day, Chichiri saw Hikou kiss Kouran. Hurt and furious, he attacked his friend and knocked them both into the river. Chichiri fought against the strong current to hold on to his friend, but a branch that was also caught in the current gauged out his eye. Because of his pain and shock, Chichiri let go of Hikou and his friend was swept away downstream and drowned. Afterwards, Kouran told Chichiri that she couldn't marry him because she had been tainted by Hikou and she wasn't good enough for him. When a flood in his village killed Kouran and his parents, Chichiri became a wondering monk. he trained for three years with Taitsukun on Mt. Taikyoku before going to find Miaka and becoming her seishi.
