Sorbitol BAD!!!

Back to my index page

Before I start, I am going to protect the anomity of my co-workers, work site, and it's staff I will not try to mention their names, because this is not their fault.( I am not really sure who fault this is). I am posting this short article as a warning about the artificial sweetener known as SORBITOL,( you probably know why by the title of this page).I will provide links to my source sites below. Ok, here is what has happened...Yesterday,(1/10/05) during Kids Club snack-time, a Kid's Cafe/school cafeteria lady(don't really know her title, doesn't really matter here) provided left over sugar free cookies by the brand name of

to kids Club for snack. Obviously all the kids and staff from Kids Club and Campfire ate these cookies not knowing about the ingredient. Before I continue, I don't know if anyone got ill from these cookies, but here is my version of the story. I also ate 1 serving of the cookies too, they tasted just like regular "leaded" cookies and still had just as many calories too (what's the f***ing point of SUGAR FREE), no I did not get sick, but if I had seconds I just might.I learned the source of these cookies came from the Omaha Food Bank, which provides food to Kid's Cafe.I noticed the ingredient and the "diarrhea" warning in small print of these packages.I went home, did research on this stuff, and was shocked when I found out that one serving of these cookies contained 6 GRAMS of this sweetener (15-16 servings for the whole damn package). It takes 10-50 grams to make an adult ill, less for kids (of course).Illness may range for minor cramps to severe diarrhea. The next day My site director and I warned the cafeteia worker about this. The cafeteria worker was very surprised about this. She immediatly discarded the supply of those cookies, the called the Food Bank. My point is sorbitol is somthing NOT meant for kids. If this Kids Cafe site got these products, I can shurely bet other Kid's Cafe site have these sorbitol containing products too. My personal opinion about sorbitol is that the FDA should completly ban this from food and drink products. Think of how messy this could have been if everybody ate enough of those cookies.Take my graphic image to the right >>>> and multiply that by 100 people :P OK NEVERMIND, DON'T!!!

Ok here is another food additive to avoid. This stuff is called Olestra (usually Olean brand). One of my cousins ate a bag of chips that contained this stuff, and she told me that she had to pull over to a "gas station" for "relief" to put this VERY MILDLY.
