Q: If I already have a cat, can I get a ferret?

A: Yes you can. Normally ferrets get along with other pets (cats and dogs). It may be a good idea to let them get to know each other for at least a couple of months before you let them run around together. If you already have a ferret and would like to get another one, Do NOT put them in a cage and expect them to get along. They may fight and if you have had the ferret for quite awhile it will take longer, because ferrets can be territorial. The pets will eventually get to be good companions for you and each other if done slowly.
