Why not a decaying, or dead, tree?
It would make a consistent contrast to verse three, would it not? But such a picture would still imply even the tiniest bit of weight, or stability. The wicked lifestyle has absolutely no stability, none at all. It is worthless chaff that is blown away in even the slightest breeze. There is no lasting value for the wicked in the sight of God.
