Meredith was Nick's publisher/fiancee, whom he fell in love with and engaged in the two months that Hallie was away at camp. Unknown to Nick, Meredith was in it for his money and after meeting Annie (as Hallie), she planned on sending his daughter off to boarding school. The twins saw through Mer's charade and, during a camping trip, managed to break up the couple after playing 'a few harmless tricks' on her.
