Star Wars: The Phantom MenaceAsphault-I'm still not sure why this was called "The Phantom Menace" because there was no menace. Anakin Skywalker, future Darth Vader, was too busy shouting "YIPPEE!" to provide any foreshadowing of the Evil to come and Darth Maul, the supposed antagonist, says less than Bobba Fett in the original Star Wars movies. The plot was something about trade barriers that I didn't, and don't care about understanding. You'd think a two and a half hour movie would have some time for character development, humor, or entertaining action sequences, but this one lacks all three. Instead Lucas uses this movie as a way to play with special effects, that are often quite good, but as we learned with last summer's "Godzilla," special effects do not make a movie. Only for the last twenty minutes does the action pick up, but the viewer would realize he could see the same thing in "Return of the Jedi" and there he/she would actually care about what's happening.1 STAR
