Carter Beauford being the eldest member of DMB, has the most experience of all of the DMB members. Born on November 2nd Carter was another natural born with sticks in his hand. He has been playing jazz drums since his childhood. His father played trumpet in a jazz band so like many of the members of DMB music ran strong throughout his life. After playing drums through highschool and college he said goodbye to drums for the time being to take up history teaching. Soon he returned to his first love. Next he joined a band called Secrets which lasted from 1984 to 1990. This band found a large following in Virginia including Dave Matthews, who was a supporter of the band and one of the many who greatly respected Carter. After the band broke up Carter went to California and tried out for the Arsenio Hall Show. He failed... so Carter went back to the east coast and landed a job on a jazz show on BET. Dave heard Carter was back in Va., and decieded to approach him with his demo tape. The rest can be found in another section of this page.
