 Bust of Queen Nefertiti

Found in the abandoned studio of the master sculptor Djhutmose at Akhetaten in 1912-1913. This is the mother of Ankhesenpaaten, and one of the most beautiful and exotic women of all time. The bust is incomplete as the left eye is missing. When the city of Akhetaten was deserted, this bust was left in situ on a wooden wall shelf. Over the centuries, the wood deteriorated and the shelf collapsed, sending the bust crashing to the floor of the studio. In this fall it sustained minor damage to the ears. This piece is an example of Late Amarna art, and it is a masterpiece.
