Ed Canfield Pix
from the
Bill Shemorry Collection

I found these pix on a Digital Horizons Online website Directory of Bill Shemorry’s Pix.

“Ed Canfield and a fellow coyote hunter (perhaps his associate Monroe Thomas) are
pictured with a week’s bag of coyotes, all hunted and killed from the air, then retrieved
and flown back to the Williston airport, where the photo was taken. The date of the
photo is believed to be around 1936.”

“View of two men, one is Ed Canfield, an airplane and a large display of coyotes,
probably all hunted and killed from the air then retrieved and flown back to the Williston
airport. The airplane tail says NC 20941 Dart, Culver Aircraft Corporation, and the wing
says NC20941. In the distance on the far right are two buildings, and there is some snow
on the ground.”

“Ed Canfield poses inside his airplane for a photograph. Canfield moved to Williston in
the late 1920s, and was a famed hunter of coyotes.”

“Williston pilot Ed Canfield poses with the 1,000th coyote shot from his airplane.
Hunting coyotes was a part of earning a living during early aviation days. Above,
Ed and Dorothy Canfield pose with their 1,000 pelt in 1929.”
