Lancers Shake Off Loss, Blank Waterloo
Waterloo, Iowa - The Omaha Lancers bounced back from their worst loss of the season by
posting a 3-0 victory Friday night over the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Lancers, who were coming off an 8-3 home loss against Tri-City on Tuesday night,
registered their seventh shutout of the season. Marty Magers steered aside 22 shots for
his third shutout.
"After Tuesday's game, we needed something like this," Omaha Coach Mike Hastings
said. "I thought we played pretty well from the start."
Omaha jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes on goals by defensemen Chris
Harrington and Jeremy Downs. Both players, who have three goals apiece this season,
also scored in Tuesday's loss.
Forward Jake Fleming extended the lead when he put a shot past Waterloo goalie Adam
Hanna. The power-play goal with 5:08 remaining capped the scoring for Omaha, which
boosted its record to 22-10-3.
"Marty played well in the third period to keep his shutout," Hastings said. "And he only saw 22 shots, compared to
47 the other night, so that was a big factor."
Hastings said he would like to see the Lancers' forwards become more involved in the scoring in tonight's 7:05
road game against Dubuque. Defensemen have scored five of the past six Omaha goals.
"That's not a good situation," Hastings said, "but I'm not going to complain too much. We got a road win tonight,
and I'd love to finish the trip with a win against Dubuque."
The third-place Lancers, who have 47 points in the standings, picked up a little ground in the West Division of the
United States Hockey League. Lincoln lost at home in overtime but Sioux Falls won, putting those two teams in a
tie for first place with 53 points apiece.
