Lancers Defeat Saints Again

Dubuque, Iowa - Defenseman Chris Harrington scored for the third straight game Saturday night to help lead the Omaha Lancers to a 4-1 victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

The Lancers jumped to a 3-0 lead and were never threatened by Dubuque, which suffered its 22nd straight regular-season loss against Omaha. The Lancers, who are in third place in the West Division of the United States Hockey League, boosted their record to 23-10-3.

"It was a real nice weekend for us," Omaha Coach Mike Hastings said. "To bounce back with a pair of road wins after our (8-3) home loss Tuesday night was what we needed."

Harrington put Omaha ahead 8:44 into the first period, putting a shot past Dubuque goalie Noah Ruden. It was the third game in a row in which Harrington has scored the Lancers' first goal.

Omaha extended its lead with 5:41 left in the period when forward Jim Dahl scored on the power play, tipping in a shot by defenseman Bryce Lampman. Aaron Slattengren, sidelined much of the year by a shoulder injury, made it 3-0 less than a minute later when he scored his first goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, Dubuque finally put a shot past Omaha goalie Ray Fraser midway through the third period. Forward Chad Damerow made it 3-1, but the Lancers got that one back in the closing minute when Brian Burns deflected a shot past Ruden.

Fraser made 28 saves to net the victory.

"I thought Ray played pretty well," Hastings said. "I was going to start (Marty) Magers, but he's still being bothered by a groin injury. Ray found out late he'd be starting, and he responded well."

The Lancers remain six points out of first place in the West Division. Sioux Falls leads the way with 55 points, Lincoln has 54 and Omaha 49.

Omaha returns to action Friday night in a home game against Sioux City.
