Kadesh Barnea: Leaving The Matrix
Egypt was familiar
There were giants in the land (Goliath + 5 smooth stones)
And very large, fortified cities
Grapes, pomegranates, and figs; one cluster between two men
Flows with milk and honey!
"We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it!"
10 spread a bad report
"We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes."
"Do not be afraid of the people of the land,… the Lord is with us."
The whole assembly wanted to stone Joshua and Caleb
God would destroy them, but Moses pleads
The Lord relents, but the people will not enter the Promised Land
The 10 spies are struck down dead by a plague
The next day the people try to attack, but fail
Why were Joshua and Caleb different?
Different focus
- Focused on God’s promise
- Focused on the goodness of the land - Num. 14:7
Different perspective
- Viewed victory as God’s responsibility - Num. 14:8
- Viewed might in terms of God’s favor - Num. 14:9
Different mind set
- Looking forward, not backward
- Believing and not doubting - Num. 13:30
"O sure, God can send plagues on the Egyptians and part the Red Sea and make manna appear 6 days a week and provide quail for everyone to eat for a month in the middle of the desert, but God can’t lead us into the Promised Land. It’s impossible."
Why did the people fail?
Wrong focus – the obstacles - Num. 13:32-33
Wrong perspective – power = stature and strength - Num. 13:31
"Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? Do you think that’s air you’re breathing now? Humph."
Wrong mind set – looking back to Egypt; fear - Num. 14:2-4
"You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief."
What is your greatest fear? Death, Speaking in Public, Making Life Changes, Spiders,...
Fear is what keeps you from doing anything foolish.
"The Matrix has you, Neo…"
You take the blue pill, you go home, play your games, watch your movies, and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill, and begin a path leading beyond your expectations, beyond your imagination.
"I am trying to free your mind, but I can only show you the door. You're the one who has to walk through it."
