There was no king in Israel and each one did as he saw fit.
Idolatry = Sin -> (Vice)
Israel did evil, getting progressively worse
God’s anger burned
What makes your anger burn?
Anger is the result of a blocked desire
Sold = Consequences -> Relationship/Time
Probably sold into bondage/slavery
According to God’s promise – Deut. 28
Cried out = Repent -> Confess and Cease
They acknowledged God
Note when they cried out – 8 years later, in bondage
Othniel = Deliverer -> Holy Spirit
The nephew of Caleb, of the kingly tribe of Judah (Gen. 49:10)
Othniel was a brave warrior (Josh. 15:16-17)
The Spirit of the Lord came upon him;
The Lord gave the king into the hands of Othniel
They went to war – this was not an overnight fix
Peace = Blessing -> Freedom
That generation remembered the Lord (40 years)
Culture = Influence -> Culture
Idolatry = Sin -> (Vice)
Circumstances = Consequences -> What gets our attention
Judges = Spiritual Leader -> Word of God, Mentor
