Many have acknowledged that Jesus Christ was a great teacher and even a prophet, but without a full understanding of who Jesus really is, no one can understand the full significance of what He has accomplished on our behalf. 1. I believe in a historical Jesus of Nazareth who was born of the virgin Mary, grew in wisdom, experienced anger and sorrow, died and was buried, and was also resurrected from the dead. (Matt. 1:20-25; Lk. 2:40; Mk. 3:5; Matt. 21:12-13; 26:37; Jn. 19:33-34; Matt. 27:59-60; 28:6) 2. I believe Jesus is the Messiah to which the Scriptures testify. He is Jesus the Christ, the one anointed by the Holy Spirit of God, Who descended upon Him at His baptism. (Jn. 4:25-26; Jn. 5:39; Matt. 3:16) 3. I believe Jesus Christ is identified as being equal with God, having been involved in the creation process, having existed before Abraham, being able to forgive sins, being called "Yahweh," calling Himself the Son of God, and claiming to be one with the Father. (Col. 1:16; Jn. 8:58; Lk. 5:20-24; Mk. 1:3; Jn. 10:30, 36) 4. I believe Jesus Christ was one man with two inseparable, yet wholly distinct, complete natures—one human and one divine. Each nature is characteristic of the essence and substance of that nature. These two natures have co-existed together in one person since His conception and will continue to do so eternally. (Phil. 2:6-7; 3:21; 1 Jn. 3:2) 5. I believe Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and was not able to sin, nor even to be tempted, in spite of His human nature, because He was completely divine. (James 1:13) 6. I believe Jesus Christ is, as a result of His sacrificial death, every sinner’s only way to come to God the Father, being our great high priest and our mediator. (Jn. 14:6; Heb. 7:26; 1 Tim. 2:5-6) 7. I believe in the forthcoming appearing of Jesus Christ, appearing in the same way in which He ascended, to take all past and living members of His Church to be with Him during the great Tribulation and ever after. At the end of the Tribulation, He will come down to the earth to crush the kingdoms of the earth, to judge the beast and false prophet, and to establish His kingdom. This will be His second coming.
