In 1998, when Susan, her husband - Bob, my sister - Kim, and I went to Curacao together, I brought some gifts for the folkz I’d met (via the Internet) while Susan and I planned the trip. They had been so very helpful in the planning, and were even MORE helpful once we arrived. So, I wanted to bring them something “American” that they’d enjoy. Since, for that trip, these people were all MEN, and since I was living in Denver at the time, I brought them Denver Broncos Super-Bowl-Winner T-shirts.
None of them knew anything about American “football.”
They graciously accepted the T-shirts.
But, I could tell that the T-shirts had been a BAD CHOICE on my part!
As you can well imagine, I did NOT want to repeat that fiasco, this trip!
So, I Emailed Leather (Carol), asking her what (inexpensive)
American “giftie” kind of thing our “hosts” might appreciate.
She replied that no one brings gifties, and that I shouldn’t bring anything!
Oh, surpriZe. I ignored her.
I thought about it … a long time …
wracking my feeble brain for the “perfect” American CHEAP giftie idea.
Finally, inspiration struck!
MUSIC! American music!

“classic” American “jazz” albums, and made CDs of “Some American Music.”
Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra,
Then, I PERSONALIZED |
These giftie CDs were universally received with eagerness and excitement!
Ok! So, the recipients may all have been acting.
But! Remember that “polite” but “unfriendly” Admiral Hotel hostess?
I gave the CD to her husband (he was friendly!) when we paid our bill.
A short while later, SHE brought it to our room and asked us to SIGN it!
So. I think the American Music CD was a gude thing!
