CHAS’ & SUSAN’S
EXCELLENT
UK ADVENTURE
Day Five
(STILL!!!) |
Staying OVERNIGHT at CASTLE FORBES!
In my opinion, THIS experience was the most AWESOME … most AMAZING
… INCREDIBLE … OH!!! … adventure of our ENTIRE TRIP!
I could write a BOOK, describing the things we experienced there. I won’t though.
(Hey! I promise!)
Lodging with Laird and Lady Forbes in their private castle, and sharing a multi-course, formal dinner with them and other personal guests, don’t come cheap! (In fact, it was soooo not-cheap, I refuse to disclose the amount – to anyone!) And, because of MY somewhat-skewed sense of adventure … well, it’s possible that not everyone would enjoy the “challenges” that made it so fun for me (and for Susan, too).
Thus! Although – for ME – this adventure was well worth EVERY SINGLE PENCE!!!,
I wouldn’t “recommend” Castle Forbes to ALL others.
Based upon our incredible experience, however, I highly recommend that EVERYONE enjoy the experience of sleeping at least ONE night in a Castle! And, since there are many “more-public” Castles (Castles renovated into “hotels”) in other areas of the UK, this CAN be enjoyed without incredible expense.
BOTTOM LINE: If ever you get the chance to spend a night in a Castle, JUST DO IT!!!

BTW: That small BLUE car is our
Rental Car, and is parked under
our 2nd floor bedroom’s window.
(Which you can’t see!) |
Castle Forbes has a rather LATE “check-in” time. They prefer that guests not arrive until around 5:30 pm! But, since we were planning to bug-out incredibly early the next morning (to get to Braemar for the GAMES), we smarmed in a littler earlier … around 4:30.
RIGHT: Susan captures ONE of the MANY
glorious views of the countryside
surrounding Castle Forbes.
This private residence is OFF “the beaten path”
– but, NOT difficult to find. |

Malcolm & Jinny Forbes
This pic is from their web site, and doesn’t do them a BIT o’ justice!
(Actually, you simply can’t see them well in it.)
Jinny graciously accepted our early arrival,
and helped us to our room. Then, SHE
returned to COOKING the evening’s feast!
A local woman comes in to SERVE the meal,
freeing Jinny to perform her “Hostess” duties.
But, ALL the cooking is done by Lady Forbes. |
Our room was spacious, comfortable,
and GORGEOUS.
It wasn’t until later that night,
that I noticed we had been given
the “DALE” room!
Each of the rooms have very old name plates
on the doors. What’s really a hoot:
Although I had listed “Susan Dale” as being
my traveling companion and roommate,
Jinny & Malcolm were as surpriZed as WE
were, when we mentioned the DALE room! |

The incredibly lovely Double-Wardrobe
on the wall opposite our beds
A silly pic of the window in our room.
Get over it! (Ha!) |
|
To stay out of the way of our Hostess, we fussed around outside for a bit.
Although we spent time INSIDE the beautiful COURTYARD at the back of Castle Forbes,
for some reason, NO PIX are recorded of the Courtyard, itself!
ABOVE LEFT: The exterior “side door” to the courtyard.
ABOVE RIGHT & BELOW: THREE VIEWS of the “interior-Castle” entrance
to the courtyard, taken from the window of our 2nd floor bath room.
“Flicker” is a Black Lab, and one of Jinny & Malcolm’s two dogs.
