Charly’s Annual Christmas Letter!

Those of you only interested in a brief “overview” of my past year can simply browse this “letter” – without having to slog-through any silly details.

DECEMBER, 2000

We left for TEXAS the day after X-mas … just in time to hit the worst blizzard and ice storm of the year in those parts! The parents and others wimped out enroute, and stayed over night in Oklahoma City. Patrick and I (in my car), bravely pushed on and arrived late on the first night! Everyone else had even WORSE driving conditions the next day (“Neener, neener, neener! LOL!), but safely arrived late that night.

• Once again, we had a fantabulous visit with the Texas Miller Fandamily, drinking and dancing the New Year in. I know I took pictures. I just don’t know where the flip they’ve been hidden!

In January, I flew to Milwaukee and “auditioned” for an International company that trains healthcare providers of ALL kinds in “Crisis Prevention.” Aptly enough, they’re called “Crisis Prevention Institute.” They had visited my web site, and were interested in having me instruct their Instructors about Restraint Asphyxia: what it is, why it kills folkz, and how to avoid it. However, none of them “knew” me, and none had seen me teach. BTW: I “ACED” THE AUDITION!

FEBRUARY, 2001

Throughout 2001, I continued to teach many local (Nebraska) Continuing Education classes – almost every month, and I taught at the July Nebraska State Conference in Kearney. On the “National” level, I taught in Iowa (TWICE – both for their State EMS Conference in the spring, and for their State EMS Association Conference in the fall); and in Joplin, Missouri. (I’ve been too busy with Restraint Asphyxia and writing stuff to “market” myself this year!) BTW: Been to MY “Mundane” Web Site Lately?

In March, I finally went “INTERNATIONAL!” Teaching for CPI at their International Conference. I got to spend an ENTIRE WEEK in Toronto … in the fancy, schmancy Westin Hotel! It was awesome to be there again. Unfortunately, almost all the old Jazz places I remembered from ’81 were CLOSED. So, I didn’t get to take in any fun music. I taught a class for the CPI Instructors who teach CPI Instructors, and then taught my Restraint Asphyxia program to ALL the Instructor Conference attendees!

CPI assures me that, SOME DAY, they’ll send me to England, Australia, and Japan to teach.
Consequently, I’ve finally RENEWED MY PASSPORT!!!

APRIL, 2001

My baby boy, Jean Pierre Rampal, turned ONE YEAR OLD in April! Some time in Spring of 2001: My svelte calico, Guadelupe (“Luper”), turned 14 years old. Princess Jellylorum (“Jelly”) turned 12. and Miss Sylvie (the medical “miracle”) turned 8. HABITAT PIX for those who haven’t seen it! (And, don’t you DARE EVER refer to it as a “cage”!)

AHH! The FIRST o’ the 2001 Renaissance forays occurred in May! The James Arthur Vineyard’s Renaissance Festival, 2001!!! Lady Liz FLEW back to Lincoln to attend the JAV 2001 Ren Fest with us! Additionally, I created an impressive “Loan Library” of Ren Costumes, so that folkz who hadn’t ever gone “garbed” to a Ren Fest could borrow an outfit. Indeed, e’en my brother Drew – the UNL REGENT – attended … garbed as a “Gnarly Peasant”!!!

JUNE, 2001

In JUNE I attended the Council Bluffs, Iowa, Renaissance Faire; along with myne good sister, Mistress Kim; her son, Sir Patrick; his buddy, Master Chad; myne brother, Drew (again garbed as a “Gnarly Peasant”!); Drew’s lady wife, Mistress Annabeth; their daughter, Mistress Annaclarice; and other friends. AND! I again flew to CPI’s Milwaukee office: This trip heralded my membership in their “Medical Issues Awareness Advisory Board” – at it’s inception! Other board members include physicians, nurses, institutional care administrators, and several of CPI’s senior staff. My inclusion is based upon my “expertise” in Restraint Asphyxia and restraint safety issues.
