Papillon's Pets
A friend is a treasure
You hold up to your heart
Each one is different, to be sure
To be learned from and cherished
A friend is a charm
Like the charm on a bracelet
Each independent and unique
But still part of a whole, a chain
A friend is the smile
That creeps up on your face
When you wear that chain
And one charm shines, catches your eye
A friend is forever
Adding their link to that chain
That grows into a family-like necklace
Each charm forever against your heart

(The last bit is my interpretation of this poem)
"To me each pet that comes into our lives
is a charm that grows into
a family-like necklace,
I wear them "forever" inside my heart
till the time comes we have to part."

My Baby Pooh Qui

Last summer Joey our beautiful black and white kitty-cat arrived in our family ...
He is the most gentle and soft hearted cat ... beautiful inside, as well as outside (I think).
He was born in a car and brought to the rescue (cat) shelter and was given the name Mazda ( named after the car he was born in for the time being) from where we adopted him at the age of 8 weeks.
We decided his name would be Joey. He lived happily together with PoohQui for a few months.
After PoohQui died we were so sad, we almost forgot Joey was mourning too. And again I looked for a "brother" for this soft purring sweetheart and ..... found almost an exact copy of Joey by "God" incidence I prefer to say.
The little one's name is Baby Joe (born August 2nd). They bonded immediately .... they eat together, sleep together, play together, sometimes when I look I see one black and white cat ... with four to eight paws somewhere, several ears ... two tails etc. It is a joy to mother two such beautiful creatures again and very comforting too.
Baby Joe and Joey, two companions, brothers in war ... fighting with leaves from the trees in our garden, hunting for mice and catching spiders instead. And brothers in peace as well ... sharing their warmth .... washing each others ears! Playing with whatever they decide needs playing with.
Cats and dogs ... diamonds and pearls on my necklace.
Mind you they do drink from the bowl in which JAWS (our goldfish) lives but never try to catch Jaws ... goodness he would be so upset even more since he never got over me naming him Jaws. Jaws is three years old now and still needs counseling cause of this name trauma.
Pets are purrrfect; I seem to tell everyone and most people know I adore cats. BUT we have some special "WOLFS" at our house as well. I call them wolfs, cause they sometimes think they are as scary as real wolfs .....
Let me introduce you to the pack, cause wolfs live in packs now don't they ..?
NYNKE: She a Frisian shepherd dog, black and white curly coat, and a lovely darling ... sweet, gentle, caring, and very fond of all kinds of other creatures. You name it she adores it!
Whether we have kittens in the house, chickens, ducklings or rabbits she instantly adores them and wants to be near to these animals. She accepts each and everyone, waving her tale, sharing her plaid, her (body) warmth, her food, her love, whatever ......
Now once we had this little duck called Alfred; we had him inside our house in the process of bringing him up to adulthood, but Alfred did not understand Nynke at first. Later on he knew, she was a "mother" type and they went for walks together. Alfred took his baths, Nynke watched him from a distance and brought him back to the house or to his adoptive MOM, one of our chickens, who watched over him at night. She freaked out when Alfred wanted to swim ....
When we adopted Sparky (our Jack Russell) from a very abusive family, Nynke accepted this nutty dog immediately, although Sparky was a fruitcake so to speak. He was scared of noises, scared of people, of cats and even "Jaws" our goldfish scared him to death. After one year of observing Sparky we decided this little dog's place was to stay with us permanently cause now he found some animals he could live with, some people he learned to trust and a Mummy dog whom could teach him to grow into a kind of normal doggie. Sparky is 7 years old now.
Nynke became deaf, due to old age. The funniest thing happened ... whenever Sparky thinks he needs to bark because for instance a bird dares to be in our garden or a fly has the guts to sit on our window .... he goes over to Nynke to warn her for the intruders, and barks as loudly as he can. Then the old lady takes over not knowing what is wrong and not knowing when to stop either .... !!!!!!!! But very enthusiastic and very LONG.
Being a senior and deaf, Sparks thinks we never punish her for her mistakes and of course he himself is off the hook (little rascal).
On the other hand when we walk the dogs, he also warns her when we turn for another sideways or leave the road ... whatever. Our dogs are voice and whistle trained but since Nynke cannot hear us any longer, Sparky takes over for her. And we sort of sign language her ... which works perfect for her since she is a very attentive type of dog. Sparky warns her as well when he notices a motorcycle or bike coming along from the back.
This nut-dog has also learned he sometimes serves as a warm place for a kitten who decides to sleep on top of him. Nynke mourned over the death of Punky and Skigje (Shy) who died in 2000 and the summer of 2001 and still looks for PoohQui in our yard. Very faithful 14 year old ... sweetheart.
My wolfs are very important to me too and they are sensitive. Not bothering me when I am tired or in pain - but very loyal and loving.
Would not trade my pets, not for a fortune cause they are to me ... diamonds on this necklace of mine ... MY TREASURE

THE SECRET
O Pussycat, Pussycat, where do you go
When you disappear to where only you know?
I look under each bed and I crawl on the floor..
I peek in each room and behind every door!
I search everyplace that a Kitty could hide..
I've called and I've crawled and I've lost all my pride!
I then try 'temptation' and put out a treat.
Then I just sit and listen for little cat feet!
But, the silence prevails, no 'Purrr' do I hear
Though, something within says you're really quite near!
I'm sure from some corner you'll soon be emerging..
You'll come when you want... And not from my urging!
So...where do you suppose those little toes go...
Where is that place that only Cats know?
