Evening of
Day 2, July 3rd

Visiting
Mathew Street
Where the
Beatles Started!

(my pic)
Carol says that Mathew Street is
entirely packed FULL of tourists
on the weekends – standing room only,
body-to-body, curb-to-curb.

Everyone wants to visit the street
where the Beatles first began
to become well known.

Luckily, I visited on an
uncrowded Thursday night.

Actually, the Mathew Street and
Cavern Club story is rather SAD:

They DEMOLISHED
the original Cavern Club!
(After the Beatles were “famous,”
but before they realized what a
HUGE tourist faux pas that was!)

So, the Current-Day Cavern Club is a
RECREATION of the original, and
a few doors further west from
where the original one was.

(The GREEN painted pub in the
background of this pic is across
from the original site.)

Now on the site of the original Cavern Club is a UTILITY SUBSTATION!!!
(What FOOLS!)

“Higsons” pub used to be across the street from the original Cavern Club. When Higsons was renovated, it became “The Grapes” pub.

Carol & I dropped our guyz at The Grapes (my pic below, left), and then continued down the street to the current Cavern Club for our first round.

Lennon’s Bar
and the
Lennon statue
are across from
the current
Cavern Club.

As is this mural
of the Fab Four.

My pix of the current
Cavern Club are terribly
DARK!

It was early, so the
band for that night
was just setting up.

We soaked up some
ambience (and gin)
and left!
