Day 3, July 4th:
YaHoo!
Heading To
SCOTLAND!!! |
By 6 am (UK time) on Independence Day, I was traveling on the Motorway, heading for SCOTLAND!
It was a LONG DRIVE from Liverpool to my first Scottish destination: BRAEMAR.
Mapquest’s Estimate: 5 hours and 28 minutes.
But, that estimate doesn’t take into account MOUNTAIN ROAD delays!
A “MOTORWAY” is the UK equivalent of an “INTERSTATE HIGHWAY.”
Motorways have a maximum speed limit of 75 mph (not measured in “kilometers”!), and they are very well signed.
I often had problems finding the suckers from IN town!
But, I never had a single problem figuring out where I was once ON a Motorway.
Since Motorways are multi-laned,
the “driving-on-the-wrong-side”
gig isn’t really an issue at all.
(Except for the fact that the “FAST LANE”
is the far-RIGHT lane!)
Still, it is very, VERY weird to be
driving down the “Interstate”
with all the “ONCOMING” lanes
off to your RIGHT! LOL
Once you get OFF a Motorway, however,
the signs tend to become … lets say,
“SCANTY,” shall we? Yes, LETS! |
|
(Put your MOUSE on the pic!) |
Thus, it is NO surpriZe that I got LOST while driving through PERTH
in search of the little highway (the “dual-carriageway”) to Braemar.
|
|
Once I found it, though,
what a BEAUTIFUL DRIVE!
I headed north from Perth,
into the countryside,
then soon started
climbing into the
GRAMPIAN MOUNTAINS. |
Once high in the mountains,
I began to occasionally
encounter SHEEP
near and IN the road! |
|
|
|
|
If no one was behind me,
I’d stop and chat with
the sweet little sheep.
Oddly enough,
most of the darlings
seemed to be in a
very ANGRY mood!
So, I always stayed
IN the car!
(HEY! I may be DAFT …
But, I’m NOT STUPID!
These sheep had HORNS, and
lots of nasty-looking TEETH!) |
In spite of getting LOST in PERTH for a while,
and several SLOW-MOVING-TRAFFIC delays
(logging trucks) on the mountain road leading there,
I arrived at Anne’s in Braemar just after noon
barely 6 and 1/2 hours after leaving Liverpool.
Oh, OK. So, I was speeding! SUE ME.
At RIGHT is a pic of
DALMORE HOUSE, Anne’s B&B,
with the Fife Arms Hotel
visible in the background.
A neighbor, MARY (“Mayree”),
was standing at her gate when I arrived.
She told me I’d JUST missed Anne,
who had gone to the golf tournament. |
