Day 10, July 11th
A GLORIOUS
GLASTONBURY
MORNING

Day 10 (Friday) began with me checking OUT of the Who'd A Thought It Inn. Unfortunately …
I checked out too early to be able to EAT the Breakfast included in the B&B fee –
So, I never did get to meet the PROPRIETORS. Ah, well. Chit happens!

Rachel arrived right on time, and I rode with her to pick up their two kidz from the friend who’d
kept them the night before (while they took me out to dinner, and during whatever … er …
PERSONAL ACTIVITIES they enjoyed after ditching ME!), and to take the kidz to school.
Then, we returned to the WATI Inn so I could grab my car and follow her to their home.

Above is a pic I took of the “Hanging Church.” I think it might be in Somerton … I forget!
I’m reasonably sure that I took this pic the day BEFORE, while being chauffeured about by Steve.
(I forget ANYTHING I don’t write down! LOL) But, I had to stick it in somewhere!

Anyway, I followed Rachel to their home ... Unfortunately, right after we arrived,
Rachel had to leave for work. So, I bid her “Adieu!” (Tearful sniff, sniff, SNARK! – I really liked her!)
THEN, Steve showed me through their house.

Steve & Rachel’s home is entirely KOOL (aka “BRILLIANT” in UK-speech)!

Is this INCREDIBLY GORGEOUS – or what?!!!

According to my NOTES (Thank the Goddess!):
Steve & Rachel’s home is over 200 years old! It’s situated on the slope of a hill, just above a small
“carriageway” (road), and it overlooks MILES and MILES of moors! Because the moors cannot be
“built” upon, Steve & Rachel will always have a lovely view from their front porch.
(I have no memory of why I FAILED to take a PIC of that fantastic view. Gadz.)

The young man with Steve in this pic is “Charley!”

He’s currently in Commercial Pilot School, and
picks up extra money by doing odd-jobs for Steve.

On the day I visited, Charley was working on a
stone path for their front yard. So, since he wasn’t
using it, Charley agreed to loan me his HEAD SET
for my ADVENTURE that day.

WHAT was my ADVENTURE that day?!

Steve took me
FLYING!!!

Steve SWEARS that he LONG AGO
told me he owned a plane and was
going to take me flying when I visited.
But, I had NO MEMORY of that info!
(Clearly, I failed to write a NOTE, eh?!)

So, this ADVENTURE was a
complete SURPRI
ZE
for me!!!

Steve drove me through “deep, dark, Devon”
(his description!), to one of the three airfields
in the area used by the US during WWII:
Dunkeswell (near Honiton, in Devon).

The following are some pix I took during our drive to Dunkeswell –
much of which was along a SINGLE-LANE “carriageway!” (GASP!)

The next two pix are of some truly “brilliant” SCULPTURES that were smack dab
in the middle o’ NO WHERE, along the drive to Dunkeswell.

Charley and his family actually live ON the Dunkeswell “Aerodrome” property!
So, first we popped to his home to get the headset.

Is this GORGEOUS – or what?!

This is Charley’s Dad’s boat. I forget the “story” that goes along with it. (No Notes! Dang.)

Next DAY 10 Pix Options (in order of trip occurrence):

My Dunkeswell Aerodrome (Airport) Pix

Dunkeswell Aerodrome HISTORY
(A page likely ONLY of interest to WWII “History Buffs”)
