Day 11, July 12th |
Here’s some INFO about the Tewkesbury Medieval Fayre
from the (2003) The Tewkesbury Medieval Fayre Website:
“The fair grows larger and more colourful by the year. Alongside those creating weapons and armour for fighters will be demonstrations of more peaceable crafts from the 15th century, such as pottery, spinning and blacksmithing. Moving forward a few centuries you can try your hand at Victorian fairground sideshows or browse amongst the wide variety of stalls. You will also find an art exhibition and a tavern, with a good range of ales and mead.
Fairs have always been known for entertainment, and none more so than Tewkesbury. Here you will be enthralled by strolling players, with tales of monsters, fabulous beasts and great adventures. Fire eaters, jugglers and acrobats will thrill you with displays of courage and skill, whilst a whole host of characters will bring back a real taste of Olde England.
There was QUITE a CROWD at the Fayre!
There also were MANY VENDORS of interesting and unusual fare.
Unfortunately, the only Vendor Pix I have are the Crowd Pix, above.
HEY! I was too busy SHOPPING to take pix o’ the Vendors!
The biggest difference from
the USA Fayres I’ve been to:
there were VERY MANY
SKILLS-RE-ENACTORS there!
Such as, the
Mercenary Bakers!
Though not at all dressed in “Period” attire,
the Mercenary Bakers still WOWED the crowd by building a
WORKING KILN from tree branches and MUD!
I suspect that on SUNDAY, they probably baked and sold BREAD!
AND! There were TONS o’ HARD CORE “Re-Enactors!”
They had their own
“Village” area. And, it
was clear that these people
did more than simply
dress the part. Here, they ONLY used
actual Medieval
accoutrements!
Next DAY 11 Pix Options (in order of trip occurrence):
