Day 11, July 12th
TEWKESBURY
Medieval Fayre
PERFORMERS!!!

I didn’t run into any of the “comic” kinds of performers that frequently play USA Fayres.
Of course, that doesn’t mean they didn’t have them!
What I saw, and what seemed most prevalent, were the wonderful
“TRADITIONAL” kinds of Medieval Entertainers.

This was a really well-performed “STORY TELLING” arena!
The pix do NOT do it justice.

But, CLEARLY, the
MOST impressive performers
(both in appearance and performance),
were the

“MORRIS DANCERS!”

“Morris dancing is a traditional
form of ritual folkdance that
originated in the Cotswold region
in western England, at the end of
the 19th century. It was a central
part of annual springtime rituals
throughout the region.
The dancers wear
dozens of bells on each leg,
wield sticks and/or handkerchiefs,
and dance to lively folk tunes.”

This group is called,
MYTHAGO

Once back home, I found them on
the Internet, and sent them copies
of the pix I took.
So, many of these
are on THEIR website –
but, they’re MY pix!

“Mythago is a
masked dance team
that seeks to illustrate
the old tales of Britain,
bringing to life the
myths and legends
of the remote pagan past
and of the early Celtic
and Saxon saints.

The performances
are not pure dance,
but include narrative,
verse, song and other
theatrical elements.”

AMAZING Costumes, eh?!!!

And, this day was
Blisteringly HOT!
(I returned from ENGLAND
with a SUN BURN –
REALLY!!!)

I can only imagine how
uncomfortable the dancers
were in these full-body,
dark-colored costumes!

Likely, their subsequently-
enjoyed WEIGHT LOSS
made up for it! LOL

Ah!

The
WONDERFUL
Mythago
Morris
Dance
Musicians!

“The instruments we have
at present include:

Melodeons
Accordion
Applachian dulcimer
Saxophone
Bagpipes (but only rarely!)
Whistles
Drums and percussion
of all kinds.”

SAXOPHONE

?!

Oops! They neglected to lyst the Medieval ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR!

Oooh! Click to VIEW TWO Morris Dancer Mini-Vidz!
