After hearing only the Placebo's demos, David Bowie (musician, actor, gentleman, chameleon, and so much more) personally invited them to play at his 50th birthday party in Madison Square Garden (atendees included artists such as The Cure, Sonic Youth, Lou Reed, Foo Fighters, and many other notable people). He invited Placebo to tour with him on the European leg of his summer 1997 tour in promotion of his album Earthling.
Bowie performed a cover of T. Rex's "20th Century Boy" with them at the Brits award show in 1999. He and Brian also sang a duet on a version of "Without You I'm Nothing" which was released as a single and was one of the bonus tracks on the US version of 'Black Market Music'. Bowie also hosted a chat with the band in 1999. |
