Placebo are putting the finishing touches to the forthcoming follow-up to their 2004 collection 'Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996 - 2004'. "We've just finished recording," Brian Molko tells K!. "We did the album in eight weeks, which is really fast for us, especially as 'Black Market Music' took nine months! We weren't supposed to be doing anything but maybe I'm a workaholic. I find myself really empty when I'm at home, not working. It feels like I don't have a focus." The as-yet-untitled album is due for release next year.

PLACEBO star BRIAN MOLKO has helped develop a new foundation which specialises in organising major live events to raise funds for disaster victims.
Following the success of fundraising concerts for the Indian Ocean tsunami survivors, the NANCY BOY singer has teamed up with British DJ PETE TONG, record producers and label bosses to form the PLAYING ALIVE FOUNDATION, which will use live events to benefit victims of natural and man-made disasters in the third world.
Music extravaganzas already planned under the scheme in Britain this year (05) include JAZZ AID and a TRIBAL GATHERING dance event, both of which will raise money for the war torn Darfur region of Sudan.

Placebo are pleased to announce that on 25 October they will release a collection of their singles-to-date, entitled Once More With Feeling: Singles 1996-2004.
The collection brings together all the singles the band have released over the past eight years from their four albums to date: Placebo, Without You I'm Nothing, Black Market Music and Sleeping With Ghosts. As a treat to fans it also features Protege Moi, previously only available in France, and two new songs, I Do and forthcoming single Twenty Years.
Placebo are one of the UK's most successful bands of the last 10 years, having sold one million albums in the UK and 5 million albums worldwide, with 1.4 million of those sales being from last year's Sleeping With Ghosts, which went Top 10 in 20 countries (including the UK). This success culminated last year with the band performing a duet on Pixies' Where Is My Mind with Frank Black in front of an audience of 18,000 screaming French kids, which was captured for posterity on the DVD, Soulmates Never Die, which went on to sell 200,000 copies worldwide, the biggest selling Virgin DVD ever. On top of all that, last month after debuting at no.2 and hovering around the upper echelons of the French chart for 16 months, Sleeping With Ghosts in one week climbed 51 places, from no.52 to no.1.
The new songs to be featured on Once More With Feeling, I Do and Twenty Years show a further maturity and growth in the band's songwriting abilities. I Do, influenced by Neu! and Laurie Anderson, is Placebos' first unashamed love song. "We've been threatening to do it for years and we've finally done it", says Brian. The second, Twenty Years, is more in keeping with the bands' existential angst. According to Brian, it's "pure epic melancholy, a meditation on the passing of time and mortality... but it's not miserable!"
Once More With Feeling will be released on 25 October. It will be available on CD (CDFLOOR23) and DVD (DVDFLOOR23). The DVD will feature previously unseen footage and include a recent interview with the band filmed specifically to mark the occasion of the album's release. It will be preceded on 18 October by the single Twenty Years.
The band play Reading and Leeds Festival, on 29th and 27th August respectively, and their last UK show till 2006 at Wembley Arena on 5th November. Tickets for the Wembley show are priced at £20.00 and available from Wembley Arena (0870 060 0870), See (0207 403 3331), Stargreen (0207 734 8932) and www.gigsandtours.com

"PLACEBO GO ACOUSTIC!
After a whirlwind tour of Mexico last week, where the band played a club show to over 4,000 people in Guadalajera and then went on to headline a football stadium in Mexico City in front of 35,000 people, they returned to the USA on Monday December 1, only to have their equipment held up by customs.
This left the band in a tricky situation, as they had a sold-out show that evening in Anaheim, California, nearly 7 hours from where the equipment was being held! At 5pm the band decided that 'the show must go on', equipment or no equipment. So borrowing Josh Homme's (from Eagles of Death Metal) drumkit and the venue's, House of Blues, piano, the band set about designing a new acoustic set for that evenings show.
The show still lasted nearly 70 minutes, which also included much banter about the days events with the audience. The set list for the evening was as follows:
SPECIAL K
THIS PICTURE
EVERY YOU EVERY ME
PLASTICINE
TEENAGE ANGST
HOLOCAUST
COMMERCIAL FOR LEVI
PEEPING TOM
CENTREFOLDS
SLAVE TO THE WAGE

Disc 1 features all the original tracks from the album including triumphant singles 'Bitter End', 'This Picture' and their new single 'Special Needs' (released 15th September). Disc 2 is the 10 track covers album featuring songs as diverse as the as yet unreleased version of Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' and Serge Gainsbourg's 'The Ballad Of Melody Nelson'.

The band have nearly finished the first leg of their world tour having taken in Europe, the US and Australasia in their stride and now set their sights on Asia in early 2004. Look out for more details soon.
Meanwhile Placebo return to the UK as the third headline act on the main stage at the Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend, while October brings another sold out European Arena Tour culminating in an 18,000 capacity sell out at The Bercy in Paris."
...from the official site...
"PLACEBO release their new single 'Special Needs' through Hut Recordings on September 15th. This is the third single to be lifted from the acclaimed 'Sleeping With Ghosts' album which is fast approaching 1 million sales worldwide in only 4 months and has recently achieved gold status in the UK.
It is safe to say that Placebo have re-established themselves on the world circuit with sold out shows in the US and Australasia. The band are currently in Europe playing to an average of 4000 people per night taking in all major cities and are making a return to Eastern Europe after the success of their previous visit on their last world tour.
The band return to the UK as third headline on the main stage at the Reading and Leeds Festival in August. This is the first time they have played the UK since their two sold out Brixton Academy shows.
After this they return to Europe for an Arena Tour, then back to the US for a 21 date tour then on to Australia before taking on the monster that is S.E. Asia in early 2004.
Love them or hate them it is hard to deny that PLACEBO are still a world conquering force with the longevity last year's big thing can only dream of.

Placebo man duets with actress Asia Argento
Placebo's Brian Molko has recorded a cover of Eurosleaze anthem 'Je t'Aime Moi Non Plus' with 'xXx' star Asia Argento for a new concept album about 'pornography and f**king'.
Originally recorded by French crooner Serge Gainsbourg and actress Jane Birkin in 1969, 'Je t'Aime' was the first UK number one single to be banned from UK radio due to it's erotic overtones. Molko and Argento's version features on 'Positions', an electronic 'strip hop' album conceived by French studio wizard Dimitri Tikovoi under the Trash Palace monicker. Other guests on the album include Velvet Underground man John Cale and Cranes vocalist Alison Shaw. Molko also contributes an original track 'The Metric System' to the album, which is out now in France on the Discograph label. 'Positions' is still awaiting a UK release.
Molko is currently mixing Placebo's fourth album with producer Jim Abbiss (The Music/DJ Shadow) at Mayfair Studios in London. For the singer's exclusive low down on the album, see the new issue of Kerrang! on sale now.
...from kerrang magazine...
Molko is currently mixing Placebo's fourth album with producer Jim Abbiss at Mayfair studios in London.
Molko tells that the album is coming along fantastically well "Its a very romantic album." says Molko. "Its all a bunch of love songs really. It started off as an album about the dark side of love, but we've balanced that with a bit of hope."
Placebo have recorded 20 tracks for their new album. Amoung the titles set for inclusion are "English Summer Rain", "This Picture", "The Bitter End" and "Centrefolds".
"There's a lot of big guitar tracks on there" Molko notes. "We've gone of on some different tangents too, but the soul of Placebo is there at all times"
The as-yet-untitled album is scheduled for a late spring release through hut.

"Placebo have now confirmed that they have found a producer for their 4th (as yet untitled) album. Speaking at the 4Scott tribute gig, Brian announced that they would be joined in the studio in July by Jim Abbiss, who's previously worked with the likes of Sneaker Pimps, Bjork, U.N.K.LE. DJ Shadow and pop princess Kylie Minogue. The band has already laid down several tracks both whilst on the road and at home thanks to their new home studio set ups and are looking forward to beginning work again this summer. During an interview for Silver Rocket, Brian stated that he hoped that the recording of the 4th album would not take as long as BMM so expect them to be in the studio for "longer than 3 months but less than 9". Known tracks are 'Protect me', 'Special Needs', 'Multiply', 'Fade Out', 'Cavity Search' and 'English Summer Rain' (5 of these songs were premiered for SR during the interview and include Brian playing the drums on 'English Summer Rain')"

Again, no information regarding it's release date has come my way as yet. Both are good (if a little different!) and I'm sure Asia, Brian and Dimitri won't keep us waiting too long."

Brian has recorded vocals for the new alpinestars single "Carbon Kid" (to be released June 5, 2002) and he also appears in the video.

"Stereophonics, Placebo, Jarvis Cocker and Embrace are just four of the names confirmed for one of the most unique and poignant gigs of 2002. As different as they are musically these artists share one thing in common - their TV and radio promotions were handled by Appearing, the company set up by the late Scott Piering. So, on April 18, 2002 the Scala in Kings Cross will play host to a very special evening of live music and DJ sets. More names will be added soon but unfortunately there are only 700 tickets available. Safe to say this is a very hot ticket indeed."

"The Black Market Music tour has now come to an end people. We all know there'll be questions as to when they'll be touring next so please take note... As soon as Placebo announce further dates they'll be posted on the sites news page and forum. The very earliest we can expect more shows is summer 2002 for a festival perhaps. If not, then it's the tour for album #4. The band spent the last week of October in the studio demoing a selection of tracks and sounds they've come up with during the BMM tour. They'll return to the studio with yet more fresh ideas after they've enjoyed a much overdue and well earnt break." -webmaster leigh

"As for the live album release date posted on another site, please don't believe it. We interviewed the band on Oct 18th and when quizzed about rumours of a live CD (and DVD), all the guys said it won't be happening anytime soon.
Again, if a release is on the cards, you'll read official confirmation here first." -webmaster leigh
