Subject: Spreader
Author: Gerhard Wendorf
Submission number: 5
Submission:Some years ago we had probles with our rig. We took
part at a sailing-regatta with storm up to 7 bft. The nex day the mast
damaged, because the spreader borke. It broked at the tang. Another
Prospect 900 sailor told me, that he had the same problem with his mast/
spreader. If you know the problem previously you can prevent it very
simply. I think it is important to make the spreader thicker at the
firsdt 10 cm (the end which is attached at the mast), maybe with a short
aluminium-pipe, or easy with one layer of tape and a hose clip.

Subject: Keelbolts
Author: Renze Dijkstra
Submission number: 4
Submission:My keelbots are very rusty. Does someone has experience
in how to change them.
Reaction 1 fron Ron Ledel: At my ship the plates underneath the
bolts looked ok, but when I hit them with a hammer the parts of them
came loose and it was very rusty. I took a grinder and grinded until
just by the threat. Then I cut the nuts with a sharp chisel. The threats
looked fine. I made new plates and found new nuts. I joined eveything
together with sikaflex and painted it. It now looks fine for over 4
years.
Reaction 2 from Renze Dijkstra: Thanks, I will try to do the
same.

Subject: handicap
number
Author: Spencer Gardner
Submission number: 3
Submission:Does anyone have a handicap number for racing - no
longer published bythe RYA. Fritha is a fin keeled version and I have
just fitted a folding propellor.
Reaction 1 from Renze Dijkstra: I belive the handicap number
is 113.
Reaction 2 from Spencer Gardner:Thank you for the information.
The RYA Yardstick was last published in 1988, I think, and was for a
drop keel version with a folding prop. This is corrected to 113 for
a fin keel version which is the same as a Trapper 500 with fin keel
and 2 blade prop. The Trapper is still quoted in the yardstick book
at 1072, under the new yardstick scheme so I guess that's what the handicap
should be ( for a folding prop). Opinions seem to vary and I have been
given a yardstick of 1045 at my home club at Hardway, Gosport, whish
seems a bit tough. I have only just fitted the folding prop so will
be interested to see if the investment was worthwhile!
