was held from 12 noon to 8 pm, on Saturday, May 20th, in 2000! AND WE WERE THERE!
‘Twas Our Very FIRST |
Here is text from JAV’s Web Site, describing their May, 2000, festivities:
Lincoln's Society for Creative Anachronism will again lend their expertise to the festival by providing demonstrations throughout the day. Lincoln musician Chris Sayre will perform a number of pieces using instruments from the Renaissance time period, while Lincolnite Paul Lefeber will dazzle the audience with his juggling and magic act.A number of area high school madrigal choirs will also perform throughout the day. [I never noticed any ‘madrigal choirs’ – but, we didn’t get there until around 2:23 p.m.]
Once again Billy's will provide a wide array of Renaissance faire, including their famous turkey legs and jumbo hot dogs. Of course, JAV's award winning mead wines will also be available for tasting.
This year's festival will also feature an area for kids, with plenty of crafts and the chance to create their own Renaissance outfits. [I overheard plenty of positive comments about the Kidz area and the crafts they were able to make!]
There will be other surprises and fun throughout the day. [Our Wench Walk was a BIG SurpriZe – for the JAV folkz!!!] A new twist to this year’s event will be a $1 admission fee or a can of food for each carload that enters the grounds. All proceeds collected at the gate will go to the Lincoln Food Bank.

Wining [not the verbal type – the liquid type (check the spelling, for goodness’ sakes!)], Snuggling, Watching, and Party-Heartying were the most prevalent Wenchly activities.
Turkey Leg Usage not normally noted in Turkey Leg User Manuals!
I don’t know whether or not the Lincoln Irish Dancers were “scheduled” or “hired” to perform at the JAV Ren Faire (their performance was not listed on JAV’s web site schedule), but they were there and DID THEY PERFORM!!! Almost all of their dances included participation of other Faire-Attendees, so twas much FUN! We met several members on their arrival, and ended up spending a considerable amount of time with them throughout the day. Several members even joined us on our Wench Walk and for our Late Night Revelries!
One of the FUNNEST aspects of the Lincoln Irish Dancers’ performance, is that they teach Faire-Goers to dance with them – inspiring Faire-Goers’ happy participation.
Lady Liz’ accomplishments were a huge surpriZe to me! (I had NOOOO idea!)
Apparently, she’s a former member of the Lincoln Irish Dancers, in addition to being an incredibly talented Celtic Musician in her own right! Pix on this page are of her expertly dancing and playing the Penny Whistle.
Lady Liz the incredibly talented Irish Drummer.
[Can we say the “B”-word!? (“Bitch!”) I think we can. She’s tres too talented! Hate her. LOL!]
A Few Wenchly Activities Captured on Film!
Not normally being a dancing or drumming fool,
these pix are of my Irish Dancing (“Jig”) and Drumming DEBUT!
Oh, surpriZe! A few of us Die-Hard Wenches stayed later than most other Faire-Goers, and closed the place down – performing with a few Die-Hard members of the Lincoln Irish Dancers.
