Pix from The Kansas City Renaissance Festival
September, 1999
In 1999, only Pat and his buddy, Cameron, managed to break away from their
MUNDANE lives to attend the KC Ren Fest with me!
After hearing of all the fun, Kim has agreed to join Sir Patrick and I the next time we go!! We’re hoping that Jennii and her friends – and SEVERAL of our ADULT-friends – (particularly all the WENCHES!) will come with us, too.
We missed the KC Ren Fest in 2000,
but PLAN to be there in 2001!

In 1999, Patrick and Cameron wore the Braveheart-style Kilts, shirts, and pouches I designed and built for them. Because of our attractive attire, people often asked us for “directions” to various Festival locations (thinking we were Faire “employees”)! Additionally, when I bought swords for Sirs Erik & Reed, the VENDOR attempted to give me a “Festival Employee” discount!
I declined.
First: it would have been WRONG to accept a discount under false pretenses.
Secondly: If asked to produce Employee ID to complete the sale – I couldn’t have!

(A lovely game involving the tossage o’ beanbags at small Monk Dolls,
in order to striketh & toppleth them from their perch.)

Highlights of the Log Competition
(Patrick won)
While waiting in line to purchase a Giant Smoked Turkey Leg for lunch
(check out the vendor’s sign!), we noticed a very tall Gentleman with an even taller staff –
topped with a poofy profusion of ostrich plumes.
(My photo didn’t catch the entire array of his staff’s plumage – dammit!)

We soon learned that the
plumy-staff-bearing gentleman was,
“Sir Tickler.”
Wandering the KC Renaissance Realm,
Sir Tickler seeks out those who wish to be
sworn-in as Knights!
Upon receiving their request to
“Take the Oath of Sword,” Sir Tickler
directs supplicants to bend-knee before him,
and justly counsels them as to the
responsibilities of a Knight.
Then, Sir Tickler administers the
Oath of Sword.
The supplicants devoutly repeat the Oath –
swearing to abide by same. |
Patrick & Cameron were hesitant to approach Sir Tickler, however!
I kept telling them, “Go ahead! Walk up to him … Kneel before him …
and request that he administer the Oath of Sword!”
They kept hemming and hawing … being too timid to approach Sir Tickler.
Finally, one of the people IN LINE BEHIND US, hailed Sir Ticker!
“Hey! These two kidz want to take the Oath of Sword!”
Upon hearing this hearty hail, Sir Tickler approached and bade the “TWO YOUTES” to kneel before him. They did. Briefly, Sir Tickler counseled Patrick & Cameron regarding the awesome responsibilities of Knights O’ The Realm. Thereafter, Sir Tickler did sternly obtain a Sworn Oath from each, subsequently pronouncing them Sir Patrick and Sir Cameron – accompanied by the cheers and “Huzzahs!” of all the Turkey-Leg-line witnesses!
Subsequent to becoming Knights (in addition to “Lords O’ the Log!”),
Sir Patrick & Sir Cameron engaged in a friendly contest of Sword …
“Have At You, Sirrah!!!”
