Subject: JOHN ARNETT BAIRD
I am interested in the person identified in the 1860 Smith Co., TX census as J. A. BARD. I noticed that you have identified this person as JOHN ARNETT BAIRD, son of MOSES BAIRD. I am researching the possibility that this individual was the son of a JOHN BAIRD who patented land in Lowndes Co., MS in 1835 and is listed in the 1840 Lowndes Co. MS census as JOHN BEARD.
The reason for this thinking is that a JOHN BAIRD of Smith Co., TX sold this land in 1857 and it is feasible that JOHN BAIRD of Lowndes Co., MS passed the land on to his son. I also have a member of my family named JOHN BAIRD in the 1860 Smith Co., TX, but I have eliminated any connection between him and the JOHN BEARD in the 1840 Lowndes Co., MS census.
I would appreciate receiving any proof you have that JOHN ARNETT BAIRD was the son of MOSES BAIRD so that I can eliminate him from my research.

Dear NORMA:
I am a descendent of MILES BAIRD [1817-1900]. His first
daughter MARY JANE BAIRD married WILLIAM EDWARD JERNIGAN and are my great grand
parents.
My father, IROCUS EDWARD JERNIGAN [called ROKE} was named for MARY JANE'S youngest brother, IROKUS BAIRD [called IRA] who lived and died [1936]
in Lorraine, TX. I spoke to IRA'S daughter in law who still lives in
Lorraine and I am to meet with her son in Dallas next week.
My nephew,
IROCUS EDWARD JERNIGAN, 3rd teaches at the University of North Carolina,
Charlotte, NC. We both are interested in this connection as we would like to
know where IRA BAIRD got this name from.
I hope some of MILES' descendants
in Texas would contact me with any information they might have.
Specifically, when did MILES move to Texas. Was MARY JANE when they
moved away? We found his and his wife, ELIZABETH'S in the City
Cemetery in Hutto, TX in April, 2003.
MILES BAIRD has numerous descendents in the White House, Cross plains, TN area.
Some of them moved with him to Texas and later returned to White House to
finish out their lives. MARY JANE died at 32 years old [1871]. She is
buried in the JERNIGAN family cemetery between White House & Cross Plains.
We very much appreciate your website. Sincerely, SUE JERNIGAN WILKINSON.
