Elliott brings home a 16th place finish at Kansas(10-1-2006) - More info coming soon.

Elliott teams with another Melling for the race in Kansas(9-29-2006) - Mark Melling was 12 when his father, Harry, the Jackson-based owner of Melling Tool, first joined forces with stock-car driver Bill Elliott in the NASCAR Cup series. Melling and Elliott were the hottest team of the mid- to late-1980s, as Elliott -- "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" -- dominated the series. In 1985, he won 11 races and the Winston Million after claiming victory in the three biggest events -- the Daytona 500, the Winston 500 at Talladega and the Southern 500 at Darlington. That's when he became known as "Million Dollar Bill." In 1988, Elliott, still with financial backing from Melling, won the series championship. Much has changed since then. Harry Melling passed away in 1999 and Mark now runs the family business. Bill Elliott is nearing his 51st birthday and has cut back on his racing the last three years. But it will be like old times this weekend at Kansas Speedway when Elliott drives the No. 37 Melling-sponsored Dodge for R&J Racing for one race only. The car will be painted to look like the Elliott/Melling Thunderbird of 1982. "It's our old logos," Melling said this week. "It probably doesn't make the most marketing sense, but it's going to be a lot of fun to see it on the track. We're just going to have fun with this more than anything else. Racing has been a part of the family, and I like to stay involved." The No. 37 Dodge that Elliott will drive this weekend was last run by Mike Skinner at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis in early August. For Melling, this was an opportunity to help team owner John Carter. Melling backed Brian Keselowski of Rochester Hills in February for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck race at Daytona, so Melling has a history of kicking in funds when possible. "I'm helping out a team owner who's trying to get going," Melling said. "This is going to help out the little guy, which I can relate to." Melling left Cup racing in 2002 because of funding issues affected by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He said potential sponsors he had lined up became reluctant to spend their money. "Everybody went away," Melling said. Not long after, Melling and his wife started a family. They now have two children, and between his family and running the company, Melling does not have much time for more than the occasional foray into racing. The Melling/Elliott reunion will be a trip down memory lane for older NASCAR fans and a history lesson for younger fans. Melling's only regret is that it won't be at his home track, Michigan International Speedway. Said Melling: "The way I look at it, it kind of touches the diehard NASCAR fans that have been there the last 25 years. They say, 'Hey, I remember that, it's pretty cool.

Bill Elliott to attempt Kansas in #37 (9-19-2006): #37 R&J Racing announced that 1988 Cup Champ Bill Elliott will be in the #37 car (Dodge?) at Kansas Speedway next weekend. "We are extremely excited to announce that after a few weeks off to restructure our program, we have signed Bill to drive the #37 car. We feel that after joining forces with Ernie Elliott, we finally have achieved the success with our program that our team deserves." R&J Racing also has signed a deal with Vision Motorsports Marketing out of Atlanta to handle sponsorship and PR for them. "We feel that the #37 team has made huge strides towards developing their program and we believe with the right marketing partner they would be a force to challenge for the win each weekend." said Vision Motorsports Marketing Vice President Adam Loser. R&J Racing and Vision Motorsports Marketing are working on their sponsorship program with opportunities still available for the Kansas race.

Elliott Finishes 7th at Dixie Speedway (9-18-2006) - NASCAR star Bill Elliott brought his #9 Dirt Late Model to compete. He qualified an impressive 4th fastest at 14.97 seconds. He finished seventh in his first visit to Dixie since 1991. “Dixie is really special to me. I won my first race here and I always enjoy coming back and getting to see everyone. I just want to thank all the fans for coming out tonight. It’s really good to be here,” said Elliott as he addressed the near capacity crowd of screaming fans.

Bill Elliott in Person and in Competition Saturday night, September 16 at Dixie Speedway -

NASCAR Super Star Bill Elliott in Person and in Competition Saturday night, September 16 at Dixie Speedway for the “Coca Cola Clash” Woodstock, GA. Coca Cola welcomes NASCAR’s Bill Elliott to Dixie Speedway this Saturday night, September 16. No doubt this will be a homecoming of sorts for Elliott as he won his first professional race at Dixie Speedway in 1974 which launched a successful NASCAR career that included a NEXTEL Cup Championship and winning NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver Award 16 years in a row.

Elliott plans to run his own Dirt Late Model race car against the competition in Dixie Speedway’s weekly Super Late Model division. He ran 6th on dirt this past weekend at Eldora Speedway in Ohio during the annual “Prelude to the Dream” event.

“Bill seems to really be doing well when he races on Dirt with his own car. I think the fans are in for a very competitive performance from him this Saturday night. And no matter how he runs we are certainly looking forward to seeing him come back to Dixie. It will be his first visit here in since 1991,” said track VP and General Manager Mike Swims.

In addition to the Super Late Model main event, fans will also see Dixie’s full racing program with all divisions including Limited Late Models, Sportsman, Econo & Super Bombers, along with Pony stocks. All divisions will be eligible for Double Winner’s Purses provided the driver was in the top 10 in points prior to the Sept 9 race at Dixie.

Bill Elliott Finishes 42nd at California Speedway(9-3-2006) - In his worst performance of the year, Bill Elliott finished next to last at the Sony HD 500. Bill was never a threat in the race. I havn't heard Bill's post race quotes yet, but what can be said? We can only hope that the next 3 races with team Red Bull goes better.

Elliott Enjoying Time Behind Wheel (08/18/06) - Bill Elliott's new motto might be "Have helmet, will travel." Last Sunday at Watkins Glen, he finished 27th as a last-minute fill-in for his former car owner, Ray Evernham, who asked Elliott to replace Jeremy Mayfield, who was fired as driver of the No. 19 Dodge that will be driven by Elliott Sadler. In February, Elliott ran the Daytona 500 for Nelson Bowers, finishing 19th after qualiffying 33rd. He has run three races for Michael Waltrip Racing and will run two more, at California and Homestead. And he will run at Charlotte, Atlanta and Texas for the new Red Bull Racing team. "It's been good. I've enjoyed it," Elliott said of his patchwork racing schedule. But he said it's difficult to get a car running fast when he's not with the same team every time. "With the springs and everything they're running now, it's really hard to get a car dead on," he said. Elliott said he's still working on his plans for next year and hasn't decided whether he'll run a full or part-time schedule.

Sadler is in the #19 - CHARLOTTE, N.C. (08-15-2006) - Elliott Sadler will take over the No. 19 Dodge at Evernham Motorsports beginning with this weekend's race at Michigan International Speedway. Sadler secured an early release from Robert Yates Racing late Tuesday evening, clearing the way for him to replace Jeremy Mayfield beginning Sunday, according to an Evernham official who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not yet been made. Sadler, who asked out of his contract at Yates in July, had been predicted to join Evernham's three-car team in 2007. But when Evernham fired Mayfield last week, Sadler and the car owner worked to get him into the No. 19 immediately. The paperwork was finalized Tuesday night, and Sadler was set to test the car at Kentucky Speedway on Wednesday. He'll drive the final 14 races of the season for Evernham to get a jump on next season. Sadler was a 2004 Chase for the championship contender, but has fallen on hard times with the entire Yates organization. David Gilliland, meanwhile, tested Sadler's old Yates car at Kentucky and was poised to fill the seat in that ride beginning with Sunday's race in Michigan. Gilliland exploded onto the NASCAR scene in June when he won the Busch Series race at Kentucky while driving for an underfunded team. It's not clear if Gilliland will drive the rest of the Cup schedule for Yates. NASCAR has yet to clear him to race at Talladega Superspeedway, and running in more than seven events this season would make him ineligible to compete for rookie of the year in 2007. That's where Mayfield could come in. Although he's expected to sign with Bill Davis Racing for the 2007 season, he could drive a handful of races for Yates while the team prepares for Gilliland to take over the ride permanently next year. Mayfield was fired last week in the midst of a tumultuous season with Evernham. Although he was a two-time qualifier for the Chase for the championship, he had a miserable year and had been extremely critical of the car owner because of it. He dropped to 36th in the points before he was fired, and was replaced with Bill Elliott last week at the road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

Watkins Glen: Bill Elliott Finishes 27th (08-13-2006) - "It was a tough day out there. At the beginning we were just taking it cool, trying not to make a mistake. We were tight in the corners early on, but stayed out on the cautions and that worked for a while. It really hurt us when something happened and we ended up in the kitty litter just before halfway into the race. We really didn't have a lot of damage, but there was a lot of dust. We made a bunch of changes after that and it made us really tight. We came in around lap 52 for gas only and the caution came out right after that. That gave us great track position, but we couldn't hold onto it. The car was really tight there at the end and we had a lot of problems in turn five. We just tried to hold on and bring it to the finish. We were pretty competitive at times but we could have been better."

Watkins Glen: Bill Elliott Qualifying Quotes (08-11-2006) - "That lap was ok, but it could have been a little better. It felt pretty good. It's a lot tougher to come back to a road course. You've got a lot more corners to mess up. We tested this car earlier this week at Kershaw to get a feel for it. The guys have really done a great job getting ready for this weekend. I'm just here to drive the car and maybe help bring some stability to this team. It's all about earning some owners' points and getting this team where it needs to be."

Watkins Glen: Bill Elliott Preview (08-09-2006) - "Road courses are always fun for me. I won my first race at Riverside a bunch of years ago, so it's always special for me to go run the road courses. It will be good to be back in one of the red Evernham Dodges. I'm looking forward to working with the team again and hopefully helping them get the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger where it needs to be. "Watkins Glen can be a challenging place to run. If you get a little bit off on those turns, it's tough to get back on. And, after spotting at the Sonoma race, I think we're going to see some close, tight racing this weekend. There are lots of folks in the field who don't have much experience at Watkins Glen, so that's going to make things interesting. I think you're really going to have to work to protect your position and your race car all day long." Elliott will be running a special Dodge SRT paint scheme this weekend, promoting Dodge's line of SRT (Street and Racing Technology) vehicles. It is the same scheme that was on the car at Infineon Raceway back in June. Elliott has 11 top-10 and four top-five starts at the Glen. His career best was second in the 1995 Bud at The Glen. Elliott has made three starts for Evernham Motorsports at Watkins Glen. His best finish was 21st in 2002 in the No. 9 Dodge. The No. 19 Dodge Charger team tested with road-course ace and part-time teammate Boris Said at Virginia International Raceway last Tuesday in preparation for this weekend's race at The Glen.

Evernham Motorsports Names Elliott to Drive the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger at Watkins Glen - 08/08/2006 Evernham Motorsports announced today it will bring back past NASCAR champion and Evernham driver Bill Elliott to pilot the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger at Watkins Glen. Elliott drove for Evernham Motorsports full-time from 2001 to 2003, then part time in 2004. Elliott went to victory lane for Evernham Motorsports four times, including winning the prestigious Brickyard 400 in 2002. Jeremy Mayfield, who has been driving the No. 19 Dodge this season, will not participate in the Watkins Glen event. No decisions have been made regarding his long-term future with the team. The decision was made after efforts to get the struggling No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger back on the right track have not progressed as quickly as needed. The team is currently 36th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup owners’ points standings, which means it does not have a guaranteed spot in Sunday’s event. Elliott brings a champion’s provisional, which means the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger is confirmed in the starting lineup and does not need to qualify solely on speed. “This team has a great deal of potential and we just haven’t met the expectations this year,” said Ray Evernham, president and CEO of Evernham Motorsports. “We will do whatever we need to get this car in the show for Watkins Glen. It’s important to our sponsors and it’s important to this team. Having Bill in the driver’s seat gives us this guarantee. I believe in our system, our process and our people, and am committed to getting this program where it needs to be.”

ELLIOTT FINISHED 22ND AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY -- 08-07-2006 -- Bill Elliott finished 22nd in the No. 00 BURGER KING® entry at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon, giving Michael Waltrip Racing its best finish this season thus far. Elliott finished on the lead lap and is one of only two drivers that has completed all 2,080 laps in 13 races at the Brickyard. “Everything worked there at the end and we were able to make some gains,” said Elliott. “We had a decent finish. We’ve got some time off before our next race to make sure we are well prepared for California.” Elliott started the Allstate 400 in 26th-place. Midway during the 160-lap event, the 2002 Brickyard winner was in 30th position before making his third pit stop of the race for four tires and adjustments. As the Burger King® crew continued to make changes to improve the handling of the car, Crew Chief Larry Carter observed the team’s performance. “The car was better and the guys did a better job this weekend working on it,” Carter said. “We have continued to make some improvements. They are kind of small, but you’ve got to start somewhere. We’ll now turn our focus to California Speedway.” In 10 starts at California Speedway, Elliott has two top-fives and two top-10s at the two-mile D-shaped oval. “California is another track I enjoy racing at,” Elliott said. “We’re optimistic in what we can do there. We’d like to have a good run for Burger King.”

PLENTY LEFT IN THE TANK -- 08-03-2006 --
Tired of the travel, sponsor appearances and stress of 36 races a year, Bill Elliott voluntarily walked away from full-time Nextel Cup competition at the close of the 2003 season. Awesome Bill from Dawsonville probably couldn't have imagined that three years later he'd be pursued to return by multiple Cup teams. - Click Here for Full Story!

ELLIOTT LOOKS FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY INDIANAPOLIS (August 1, 2006) -- Winning the Brickyard 400 in 2002 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a prominent victory for Bill Elliott. This weekend the 44-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series winner returns to the 2.5-mile oval to pilot the No. 00 BURGER KING car for Michael Waltrip Racing in the Allstate 400. "To me, the Brickyard is kind of like the Daytona 500," Elliott said, who earned his Brickyard win behind the wheel of the No. 9 Evernham Motorsports entry. "The Daytona 500 is the granddaddy of them all. Then in the second half of the season, you have the Brickyard. It's a prestigious race to win." In addition to his victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Elliott has five top-five and nine top-10 finishes in 12 starts. "I've just always liked that racetrack for some reason," Elliott said. "It kind of fits my style. It seems like we've always had pretty decent cars every time I've been there. When I was running full-time we always focused hard on that particular race."

ELLIOTT AND MICHAEL WALTRIP RACING CONTINUE PROGRESS AT NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY - LOUDON, N.H. (July 17, 2006) -- Bill Elliott finished 32nd in the No. 00 Burger King® Michael Waltrip Racing entry during the Nascar Nextel Cup Series event at New Hampshire International Speedway Sunday afternoon. “The team did a good job and we were able to learn some things,” said Elliott. “Fortunately, we’ve got a couple weeks to prepare for our next race at Indy.” After starting 43rd in the 300-lap event, the Michael Waltrip Racing team made numerous changes to improve the handling of the No. 00 Burger King entry. “The car started off really free,” said Elliott. “We tried to make improvements to the No. 00 Burger King car. Throughout the race we adjusted on the track bar, made air pressure adjustments and even changed the left front shock. You name it, the guys did it to improve the handling of the car.” Crew Chief Larry Carter was pleased with the Burger King team’s overall performance.  “Even though the on track performance was not what we expected, the guys did a good job and we are making small steps in the right direction,” said Carter. “There were some improvements this weekend with all of the guys working together on the car. Bill and I are working well together and that’s always a learning curve with a driver and crew chief. The team is getting better at working on the cars. Overall, we’re making progress.” “It’s tough for teams to make the sweep from Chicagoland Speedway to Loudon to Indy,” continued Carter. “The good thing out this weekend is that it showed us some of our weaknesses that we need to work on. I think that is a positive. It’s great that we can identify the problems now rather than later and make adjustments.” Elliott’s next race in the No. 00 Burger King Michael Waltrip Racing entry is scheduled for Indianapolis Motor Speedway in early August. The 44-time Nascar Nextel Cup Series winner has one win and five top-five and nine top-10 finishes in 12 starts at the 2.5-mile oval. “The race at the Brickyard is a prestigious race and it’s a place I really enjoy racing at,” said Elliott. “I have been very successful at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and I won there in 2002 driving for Ray Evernham. We’ve got a couple of weeks to prepare for it. We’re aiming to have a solid finish in the No. 00 car for Burger King.”

ELLIOTT COMPETES IN SECOND RACE BEHIND WHEEL OF NO. 00 BURGER KING CAR AT NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL LOUDON, N.H. (July 12, 2006) -- Following the conclusion of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway test session today, Bill Elliott shifts his focus to race number two in the No. 00 BURGER KING NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series entry fielded by Michael Waltrip Racing at New Hampshire International Speedway. "After we wrap up our Indy test today, we will turn our efforts to New Hampshire International Speedway," Elliott said. "So far, we haven't had much time on the track today due to weather. We didn't make that many laps on Mondayeither because we didn't get on track until nearly lunch time. Our goal is to use our time wisely and get some good quality time on track. Then we'll cross the bridge for Loudon." Elliott has one pole, two top-five and four top-10 finishes and his best finish is fourth (2003) in 18 starts at New Hampshire International Speedway. To help prepare for the race at the 1.058-mile oval, Elliott tested the No. 00 BURGER KING entry at The Milwaukee Mile last month. "We did test at The Milwaukee Mile not long ago for Loudon," Elliott stated. "New Hampshire International Speedway is a track where I've had ups and downs. I have a pole there and I've run well there before." New Hampshire International Speedway is a track that over the years Elliott has grown to like. "Since they redid the track, it made it a lot better from a racing standpoint," Elliott said. "The first time I ran there I didn't like the track, but the more I raced there I liked it. I got better at racing there and then the last few races I ran there, I really enjoyed it. On the flipside, it's a hard track to pass on. It's a place where you've really got to have the car handling well. That will be a true test for this No. 00 BURGER KING team when we go there."

ELLIOTT'S FIRST OF FIVE RACES IN NO. 00 BURGER KING CAR BEGINS AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY

JOLIET, Ill. (July 3, 2006) -- This weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Bill Elliott prepares for the first of five races that he is scheduled to drive the No. 00 Burger King NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series entry for Michael Waltrip Racing as the organization plans to field multiple full-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Toyota Camry entries in 2007. "This will be our first race in the Burger King car," Elliott said. "The five tracks that we are going to are the kind I really enjoy racing. To get ready for Chicagoland, we've been testing and preparing for this race and we are glad it's finally here. We tested at the Milwaukee Mile and Kentucky Speedway not long ago. They even tested one of the carsjust yesterday with David Reutimann at Nashville Superspeedway." This weekend the 44-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series winner's focus is topping his best finish of seventh-place, which occurred at the 1.5-mile D-shaped tri-oval in 2002. "I've always qualified well at Chicagoland Speedway and finished well there too," Elliott stated, who has two top-10 finishes in three starts at the track. "The last time I was there was in 2003. We started third and we finished 11th in the No. 9 car. When tracks age, the racing is better and I like the track more."

Bill Elliott Daytona 500 Qualifying Quotes - "Not bad. I think anytime you can back up what you run in your practice speeds is probably the most important thing. I think the wind probably helped a little bit yesterday, but once they go through all the inspections and to still come in and run at a 47 is a very important part of what we did today."

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL FOR THE 150'S? "We'll see once we get through all the qualifying today. If we're still pretty good, then you can go into the 150's as a test for the 500. I think a lot of these guys who are guaranteed a start -- you'll have two different groups. The ones that has to and the ones that are just using it for the 500. Hopefully we can use it as a test for the 500, but we'll know more after we leave here today."

ELLIOTT NOT READY FOR COUCH POTATO ROUTE - DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 8, 2006) - Bill Elliott, a two-time champion of the Daytona 500, returns to the fabled race after a two-year absence. Running a limited schedule the past two years, Elliott snapped a 24-year streak in 2004 of competing in the Great American Race. Though he didn't drive in the 2004 Daytona 500, Elliott still found himself in the limelight at Daytona International Speedway. He was the first person to meet President George W. Bush on pit road before the 500 and then proceeded to introduce the most powerful man in the world to the drivers. "That was a neat deal," recalled Elliott. "Of all the things I've ever done to fill a void, that probably did it and then some." The following year was different. Elliott was back home in North Georgia watching the race on a big-screen television. "I haven't reached the point where I am content to watch this race on television," said Elliott, the 1988 NASCAR Cup champion. "If I'm sitting on the couch, I can't win the Daytona 500 again." Thanks to Jay Frye, CEO and general manager at MB2 Motorsports, Elliott is not planning to be a couch potato when the green flag drops Feb. 19 for NASCAR's biggest race. If all goes according to plan in qualifying, he will be driving the MB2-prepared No. 36 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet. "Well, Jay kind of pushed me over the edge on this," explained Elliott. "I know his wife Danielle real well, and I think she threatened me with bodily harm, so I said, well, I'd better go do it. It was just an opportunity and the (MB2) cars have run well here in the past. I thought, hey, what the heck, we'll give it a shot and see if we can get in the 500 and do some good." When asked if he can win the Daytona 500 at 50 years-old, Elliott was quick to answer. "I feel like I can, I really do. And I feel MB2 has the equipment to do it." In his first appearance in the MB2 Chevy (Jan. 8), Elliott was awesome. Led by crew chief Frank Stoddard, he posted the fastest speed in the first day of preseason testing at Daytona. "I stepped in to an already good deal -- MB2 has a history of fast superspeedway cars," said Elliott, who has not driven a General Motors car since October of 1979. "Doing well in a test session is one thing. You have to do it when it counts and I feel confident that we'll get the job done." Elliott will be joined in Daytona by MB2 drivers Joe Nemechek (U.S. Army Chevrolet) and Sterling Marlin (Waste Management Chevrolet). Marlin is also a two-time winner of the 500 (1994 & 1995). "You need experience for this race and we have that," said Elliott. "Both Sterling and Joe are good on the big tracks and having them as teammates gives us added potential." The last time Elliott and Marlin were teammates for the 500 (1992), the twosome sat on the front row in cars owned by Junior Johnson. Marlin edged out Elliott for the top starting spot. Elliott has competed in 25 Daytona 500 races. Along with his two wins from the pole in 1985 and 1987, his Daytona 500 record includes nine top fives, 14 top 10s and four poles. He shares the record for most Daytona 500 poles with Buddy Baker and Cale Yarborough. Elliott will also drive the No. 36 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet in Saturday's (Feb. 11) Budweiser Shootout, an invitational race for 2005 pole winners and past Shootout champions. Elliott earned the automatic berth as a result of winning the Shootout in 1987.

Daytona 500 Media Day - Bill Elliott Quotes - BILL ELLIOTT, NO. 36 GINN CLUBS AND RESORT CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO SS:

DO YOU MISS BEING A FULL TIME DRIVER IN NEXTEL CUP? "I don't miss the feeling you have when you get up feeling so beat up from racing so hard the day before. Regardless of how you feel on Monday, you are off testing on Tuesday and Wednesday then back at another track on Friday. But I do miss the people, the competitiveness of the sport, I like to compete. That is what drew me into this sport I don't know how many ever years ago it was. I guess I didn't realize how much you come to depend on that as time goes on. But I really enjoy where I am at today, being able to pick and choose what races I run. It took a long time for me to get to this point and now that I am here, it is very important to me.

ARE YOU STILL COMPETING IN SNOWBOARDING OR DO YOU FOLLOW SNOWBOARDING? "I have never competed in snowboarding, but my son is in a snowboarding school. Last Saturday they had a little competition and went in the half pipe. He doesn't go very high, he doesn't do a lot of the tricks the other kids do when they do some of the jumps. But to watch some of these kids do the things they do is just amazing. It is just unreal what some of those guys can do. Whether you are driving a sprint car race or in a NASCAR race, when you are on your game and everything is going right, what you can do and how everything can come together. It is the same for those guys on those boards. I went in the half pipe but I didn't go very far. I ended up looking like Superman going down it."

WITH HAVING JUST A PART TIME TEAM, CAN YOU BE A THREAT IN A RACE? "We will see. I would like to think so, at least an opportunity running up front. To me, this race track (Daytona International Speedway) is unlike an Atlanta and some of the other places where you can strategize, the crew can be 80% to 90% rather than 100% sharp and still have a good run Sunday afternoon, still put yourself in a position to win. You can't do that last four tire stop, come in and get a little shot of gas or do whatever else you want to do and still put yourself in a position to win. Here, you have to have good teammates to get you in the right position as well as the crew. With Joe (Nemechek) and Sterling (Marlin) both on this team, they have been here enough and have been good enough; we can put all three cars in the right position at the end of the race. I think Joe finished fifth in the 500 last year and the team qualified this car in the top-10 for the July race and we got some awfully good speeds out of it at testing, so we will see."

YOU HAVE HAD WINNING CARS HERE BEFORE, HOW GOOD IS THE CAR YOU HAVE NOW COMPARED TO THEM? "It is good, it is a really good car. It is a very competitive car, capable of winning. You have to put yourself in the right position. How you come into Daytona, makes a big different. To me, if you unload off the truck, everything goes just right, you get through the 'Room of Doom' (NASCAR Tech) and then you go out and have good runs, that kind of starts the ball rolling. By how all that goes, you can kind of tell if you are going to have a good Daytona week by they way things come together early. For us, we had a good test, so now if we can continue to put it together the next few days, getting ready for qualifying on Sunday and then the 125s on Thursday. "

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO? YOU HAVE ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE A FORD MAN SO DO YOU HAVE ANY FEELINGS ABOUT THE FORD/CHEVROLET THING? "It seems to run well. I have driven Chevrolets in the past and this one is a good car. I drove Dodge the last five years. This is an opportunity for me. When Jay Frye came to me, I wasn't looking a brand as much as I was looking for the right opportunity. If Jack Roush or someone else had come to me and said there was an opportunity for me, it would have been the same thing. I chose it as that, an opportunity and look past everything else. For me it is an opportunity to come run the Daytona 500 and I am just glad to be here."

DO YOU THINK THERE ARE GOOD OPPORTUNITIES OUT THERE FOR VETERAN DRIVERS? "I think there are opportunities out there for drivers to be here a longer period of time. Rusty (Wallace) quit cold turkey more than anybody. For me, as hard as I worked and as long as I have been in to it, I wanted to have options and not quit cold turkey. I wanted to be able to do it my way. Whenever you say you aren't driving any more, like Mark (Martin) who was going to quit the end of last year, then things changed. I didn't want to put myself in a box, I wanted to have a few options to take advantage of the opportunities."

IF YOU HAD A BAD CRASH, WOULD THAT CHANGE ANYTHING FOR YOU? "I am sure that would play in to things but if you think about that side of it, you probably wouldn't have gotten into one of these things in the first place. It is like the car I ran 210 here with back in '87, I still have that car back at the shop and every time I walk by it, I cringe. I would have hated to have known what would happen if you wrecked that thing at 210 (mph) around this place. It is part of the sport though."

Elliott Preseason Thunder test wrap-up(01-12-2006) -AFTER SUCCESSFUL TEST, ELLIOTT READY FOR BIG SHOW

"If I'm sitting on the couch, I can't win the Daytona 500 again so at least I'm down here trying." Bill Elliott

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2006) -- After shaking hands and thanking crew chief Frank Stoddard, the unpretentious Bill Elliott exited Daytona International Speedway Wednesday in the same quiet manner he entered the historic facility Monday to begin a three-day test session for the Daytona 500. As Elliott was strolling to the parking lot he was asked to evaluate the team's performance and his No. 36 MB2 Motorsports Chevrolet. Though his response was short, it carried plenty of confidence. "Mission accomplished -- all systems go," said Elliott. "We're ready to come back here next month." Elliott, who announced last week that he would drive for MB2in the Budweiser Shootout (Feb. 11) and Daytona 500 (Feb. 19), posted the fastest speed Monday and the second fastest Tuesday. In Wednesday's drafting practice on the 2.5-mile tri-oval he said he felt comfortable in the MB2-built car. "I liked the way the car handled in the draft,"said Elliott. "It was just a nice-and-easy three days of testing." Elliott, a two-time winner of the Daytona 500, has run a limited schedule the past two years. His last 500 appearance was in 2003. "I like this place and I'm glad I am here." said Elliott. "If I'm sitting on the couch, I can't win the Daytona 500 again so at least I'm down here trying." Stoddard,a 14-time winner as crew chief on the NASCAR Cup circuit, also gave high marks to the team's performance. "It was a good test and Bill was a joy to work with," said Stoddard. "He gave us some good feedback in race-trim conditions. We had a good package from last year's stuff and fined tuned around that. I think we can come back here and qualify well." Stoddard also noted that the productive test session was a result of the quality off-season work by the MB2 employees. "The group effort paid off once again for us," explained Stoddard. "The guys back at the MB2 shop, the fabrication department and the Hendrick engine people worked hard during the off-season and that's why we have the results that we do. I think the 01 (Joe Nemechek) and the 14 (Sterling Marlin) will come down here next week and also do well.I feel that the three MB2 teams have the potential of making some noise during Speedweeks."

Elliott Preseason Thunder report (01-10-2006)
ELLIOTT HAS ANOTHER FAST DAY IN MB2 CHEVY

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2006) -- Bill Elliott had another productive day of preseason testing for the Daytona 500. The driver of the No. 36 MB2 Motorsports Chevrolet was second fastest Tuesday, a few ticks shy of claiming the top spot for the second day in-a-row. Elliott's No. 36 MB2 Motorsports Chevrolet covered the historic Daytona International Speedway 2.5-mile oval in 47.866 seconds at 188.025 miles per hour. Jeff Gordon was fastest at 47.754 at 188.466. Elliott had the fastest lap Monday at 48.072 at 187.219. "Everything felt good again today," said Elliott, who announced last week that he would drive the No. 36 Chevy in the Feb. 11 Budweiser Shootout and Feb. 19 Daytona 500. "We've made great progress in two short days and feel good about coming back here next month for the big show. All systems are go."

Bill Elliott to run 2006 Daytona 500..in a Chevy: Longtime Dodge [and longer time Ford] driver Elliott has Chevy ride for Daytona Bill Elliott will get another chance to add to his Daytona win total next month, and the longtime Ford and Dodge driver also will have a chance to size up a Chevy. Elliott, who has four wins at Daytona International Speedway, including two in the prestigious Daytona 500, said Tuesday that he'll be driving the #36 Chevy for MB2 Motorsports in the sport's showcase event. "I wanted to run the 500 again, one more time at least," said Elliott, who has run a part-time schedule for the past two seasons after ending a full-time career that saw him win a Nextel Cup championship, 44 races and 55 poles. "I've always enjoyed running Daytona." It'll mark one of his rare starts in a General Motors car, although he did run Chevys and an Oldsmobile in the late 1970s. "The General Motors stuff has been awfully good on superspeedways," he said. "We'll see what they're all about." He still plans to run some races in a [#91] Dodge for his regular car owner, Ray Evernham, but those starts will come later in the season. Elliott said it's best for Evernham to focus on getting his third full-time team --- the #10 Valvoline Dodge driven by Scott Riggs --- up to speed at the start of the season. "I want Ray to put all his effort into that right now," he said. Elliott's first ride in the #36 will come next week when Daytona holds the first round of preseason test sessions.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution) NOTE: Boris Said usually drives the #36 car for MB2 Motorsports, making 9 starts in 12 2005 attempts. Supposedly Said will again run a limited schedule in 2006, not sure if this move changes that. Elliott also has a past champions provisional available to use unless Terry Labonte needs it [goes to the most recent past champ not making the top 42 spots] for the #96 Hall of Fame Racing team.(1-4-2006)

Preseason Test: Elliott, Glover - Dodge interview (1-19-2005)

BILL ELLIOTT (No. 39 Coors Dodge Charger)

"My first plan is to run the Budweiser Shootout in Chip Ganassi's Coors' sponsored Dodge. It's kind of a retro paint scheme from the same kind of paint scheme I had in 1985. It's got a 3 on it, so maybe the 3 and 9 will work well together. I'm looking forward to running it. It's an opportunity for me to get more seat time. I don't want to run a lot this year, but I want to run a little more than I did last year. I think with the schedule Ray's got put together for us and being able to have the opportunity to run Chip's car down here... Ironically, it's not the first time I drove for Chip. I drove Chip's IndyCar back in the early 90s. I've got a picture with him on the wall with Eddie Cheever when I drove his IndyCar. It was a Target sponsor. Coming back to Daytona with all the history we made back in 1985, it's a great opportunity for us and I'm looking forward to having a great reunion.... I never drove for Tony (Glover), but I'm sure Sterling's got him pretty well in place. Getting reunited with my brother Ernie doing the engines is another great opportunity. It's a lot of memories coming back and putting it together here for Daytona. There are no plans to run the Daytona 500 right now, but maybe down the road we will again. We'll see what happens."

WILL IT HAVE THE SAME SPEED THE 85 CAR HAD AT DAYTONA?

"If we could somehow get rid of the restrictor plate we'd be in pretty good shape. Right now I don't think we can take NASCAR out of that. We'll do some drafting practice tomorrow to see how things go, and I'm looking forward to that. We'll see if we can't get things put together to run well when we come down here in a couple of weeks."

COMMENT ON NEW DAYTONA INFIELD

"When they talked about this when we were down here for the Fourth of July race and I saw some of the sketches of what they were doing, it's pretty amazing what they've done here. It'll really be fan friendly. I don't know if the crew chiefs are going to like it that well, but I'm sure the fans are going to absolutely love it. There will be plenty of opportunities for them to get really down close personal with what's going on, especially leading up to the Daytona 500 and how hard these guys work and what they put into to try to win this race."

HOW MANY RACES WILL YOU RUN THIS YEAR?

"I hope to run about 10 or 12 not counting the Bud Shootout. I think right now we're up to about seven, and I think we'll end up with 10 or 12. I think we'll start at California. We plan on running Atlanta, Texas, Charlotte 600, one of the Michigan races. Chicago, Texas in the fall and I can't remember the others. It's about one a month. With the crew we've got it's hard to put it much tighter than that. It really spreads those guys thin."

COULD YOU ELABORATE ON THE GANASSI INDY CAR?

"I had the opportunity to practice one of his IndyCars at Michigan back in the early '90s. One of the Bosch guys, Wolfgang, got me the opportunity. I went up there and had a good time. At that time I think when we ran our stock cars, our average was about 165. I ended up running about 210 around there in one of his cars. I ran it about 8 or 10 laps, and I really enjoyed it. They asked if I'd like to come back and run it, and I told them I would like to come back and do it when they were testing to learn more about the car, but I never had the opportunity to do it."

WAS RUNNING FOR GANASSI OK WITH RAY EVERNHAM?

"I had talked to him before Chip and I got together. I asked him if some other opportunity came up and he said, 'that's fine.' He has his stuff in place, and we really didn't have anything for the Bud Shootout as we did last year. So, this was an opportunity for us to come down here. For me, it knocks that little bit of rust off the edges. I had an opportunity to run here in July with the C-2 program with Coke, and I just enjoy running here. It's a racetrack unlike Talladega. If you've got a car that handles well with just a little bit of speed you can beat the rest of the competitors."

WHAT'S IT LIKE GOING INTO YOUR LAST SEASON OF FULL TIME RACING?

"I've never won at Martinsville and Rusty has. It's kind of a double-edged sword. Daytona is a special race. It's kind of the Super Bowl, the pinnacle of our racing. This starts it off and Indy is the second half, but I really don't know what they go through. There's opportunities where you run well at certain places and just can't seem to get in victory lane for whatever reason. Rusty and Mark both have run well here over the years, but just haven't found the luck or combination that's put them in victory lane."

MEMORIES OF OLD DAYTONA GARAGE

"I was probably the one who was in here the earliest back in the early '80s. I was in here earlier than anybody. The old garage was unique and to come in here and not see it is like, it's not the same Daytona I've always known. I know things have got to change. It's kind of like if you look at the history of losing North Wilkesboro and then Rockingham, you look at all the memories, especially as far back as I go in this sport, and come here and see a whole different era and try to get used to what's around you, it's a whole different field. The new guys, you come in and the changes are just a part of what you're doing. For me, you spend all those years and looking at the old garage I was all the way in one end and went all the way to the other end from being so far back in points and not running very many races to winning the championship and being able to be the first stall in the garage. It's got a lot of special memories. I came here in the late 70s and was able to start carving out some kind of future for myself. By the early 80s we started putting things together and by 85 we came down here and ran 205. By 87 we came down here and ran 210. I think of all the things that impressed me by looking at the stats of my career to be able to run 210 here was a feat.... Just to give you a little background on where I'm coming from, I was here when Cale tried to run the second lap over 200 and he didn't make it out of turn four. The day I left pit road when I ran both in 85 and 87, I said, 'man, I don't know if I'm going to make it back.' Those were the kind of thoughts you had. Today, you don't even think things like that. The evolution of where the track has come and gone and restrictor plate racing is so much different than what we were doing is so much different from the open plate stuff, but there are a lot of memories here. A lot of good things have happened, and it's been a good part of my career."

HAVE YOU CUT BACK ON SNOWBOARDING?

"I think I put in a lot of days this year. I spent five at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and I just came back from five days out there, so I haven't cut back much. It helps (to stay in shape)."

TONY GLOVER (Crew chief No. 39 Coors Dodge Charger)

"Anybody that wouldn't be excited to work for Bill Elliott really doesn't need to be in this sport. From our standpoint we're extremely excited about it. It gives us another opportunity to race and any time you've got an opportunity to race. Anytime you've got an opportunity to race with a guy like Bill Elliott you've got an opportunity to win.

MEMORIES OF OLD GARAGE

"I remember coming down here when I was just a kid and being in the old Late Model Sportsman garage, and sneaking into the Grand National garage and walking around looking at the cars. I was just amazed and in awe of seeing some of those guys in there. To one day make it in there, I guess that's been near 25 years of my life in that garage area. I have a lot of special memories of that place. I've been pretty fortunate at this track. I've been in there several times for post-race inspection. Like Bill said, to some of the newer guys who have been through that garage only one or two times it's probably a little bit different than spending 25 years in it."

Bill Elliott to Pilot No. 39 Coors Dodge in Shootout at Daytona - CONCORD, N.C. (January 11, 2004) --- Coors Brewing Company will take a trip down memory lane during the Shootout at Daytona International Speedway when Bill Elliott makes a one-race appearance behind the wheel of a retro Coors Dodge. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates will field a second entry in the Shootout for Elliott who was partnered with the team's current sponsor Coors Brewing Company from 1984-1991. Elliott's Dodge will sport the paint scheme that he earned the coveted Winston Million during the 1985 NASCAR Winston Cup season.

"I am really looking forward to partnering back up with Coors," Elliott said. "I think that this is a great opportunity and I really like running that race. I think it is also going to be fun to work with my brother Ernie. Ernie worked on my motors when I was just starting out. Now I get a chance to have him build my engines again and it is something I will thoroughly enjoy."

Elliott first partnered with Coors in 1984 when the beer company entered the world of NASCAR racing. The 1985 season and paint scheme Coors is honoring was a banner year for Elliott. He earned the Winston Million by winning three of the four major races of the season, the Daytona 500 (Daytona, Fla.), the Winston 500 (Talladega, Ala.) and the Southern 500 (Darlington, S.C.). He also captured a record-breaking 11 superspeedway victories that year.

Over the course of eight seasons, Elliott piloted the Coors car to the 1988 Winston Cup Championship, 33 wins, 94 top-five and 142 top-10 finishes.

"I think this is a great way to honor Coors Brewing Company's history in racing," team owner Chip Ganassi said. "Coors had a long and successful affiliation with Bill and has been a sponsor with Felix and I since 1995. This is a great way to partner the company's past and present for one night under the lights at Daytona. We look forward to having Bill in one of our cars and giving Coors this opportunity to celebrate the start of its 21st year in NASCAR."

Coors first came to team owner Felix Sabates and Team SABCO in 1995. After three seasons and two drivers the door was left open for current driver Sterling Marlin to take over the reigns of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge. Team owner Chip Ganassi partnered up with Sabates in 2000 and Coors Light continued its success with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates.

"We here at Coors Brewing Company are very excited about having Bill in the car and partnered up with us again for this one race," said Steve Saunders, Director of Event Marketing for Coors Brewing Company. "He had an impressive eight seasons with Coors and won a championship while he was sponsored by us. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to run our two brands of beer Coors and Coors Light at Daytona International Speedway. First we have Elliott in the Coors car and Marlin in the Coors Light Dodge."

The Shootout is scheduled for Saturday, February 12th at Daytona International Speedway.

ELLIOTT WINS AT THE ROCK!- Starting last after making an engine change, Elliott led for the first time on lap 186, then held off Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman for his first victory of the season in Sunday's Pop Secret 400. "I knew Jimmie Johnson would be tough to beat on a short run," Elliott said. "I felt like I had a better car after 40 or 50 laps on the second side of the run. He was good on the first side. "We finally got it adjusted and got good there at the end. We did what we had to do. The pit crew did an excellent job getting me in and out there at the end and put it all together." Elliott led 140 of the 393 laps.

ELLIOTT FINISHES 4TH AT CHARLOTTE - "Our Dodge Dealers Dodge ran great tonight," said Bill Elliott after scoring his second consecutive top-five finish. "We just couldn't catch a break. I got a little loose, and I got a little tight. We just couldn't ever get the balance exactly right. It seems like track position was everything, but I'm proud of my guys. "We might could have short stopped, but when you're running that good it's hard to make that gamble. At least we could see them. The guys have given me some real good equipment the past few weeks, and I'm really happy where we are right now. "The program has really come together. I ran hard from the start. The car would give up one way, and then it would give up the other way. I thought I had a pretty good deal there when I got ahead of Tony, but then Tony beat me out of the pits. It seems like track position and aero is the whole key, but Tony was really good on the short runs. We reeled him back in at the end, but it's hard to do anything with these guys. "You've just got to concentrate on what's going on and hopefully you adjust right for the last run. We've run well every week. Our finishes haven't reflected it, but this team has run well. If we can just catch a few breaks... We were right there tonight, but we just need to keep chipping away at it."

ELLIOTT FINISHES 2ND AT KANSAS CITY - "It was a good day, but we just couldn't get there, "We had a good car, but it was just one of them days. We didn't change anything on the car all day long."

ELLIOTT FINISHES 13TH AT DEGA - "It's just typical Talladega," said Bill Elliott following his 13th-place finish. "The rules change didn't do anything, really."

ELLIOTT FINISHES 14TH AT DOVER - "There at the end we just got really loose and couldn't go nowhere," said Elliott. "We ran good for the guys early, but we just couldn't keep it going."

ELLIOTT FINISHES 4TH AT LOUDON - "The Dodge Dealers Dodge was really good, Mike and them guys really changed stuff around since Richmond last week, and they really put the car where it needed to be. I'm proud of the guys, though. We needed this for the rest of the season. We've got a lot of races left, and we needed a good run like this just to show that we could do it. "It happens," said Elliott on racing back to the yellow flag. "You need to slow down and kind of give guys a break within the accident, you know, trying to get the medical people to those guys. You don't have to slow down too much.. But, if you're in a wreck out there on the racetrack, I'd want them to be able to get to me as fast as they possible could. Someone's always going to have an opinion regardless of what you do. I'm just glad with the way it turned out. We got a good day."
