I have just spent several hours reading through the AngelFire site with the Burns family information and am fascinated. I have known little about my family on the Burns side as my mother’s parents died when she was young. I have several cousins who have recently sent me what they have found and it might fit into the NC/TN line. This is what I have so far:
Walter Brantley Burns b. 1864 In Wilson Co, TN was our grandfather and our grandmother was Mary Josephine Hawk. They had 5 children: Bland, Robert Jacob, Marie, Mabel/Nina and Walter Brantley Burns. Nina was my mother. Walter’s father was William Harrison Burns b. 1834 and mother was Amanda Scott. William’s father was Brantley Burns, b. 1792 Wilson Co., TN d. 1870 and Celana or Cleo Harrington b. 1804 Wilson Co., TN m. 4/2/1822. Brantley’s father, James Burns b. 1763 in Chatham Co, NC married Hannah Brantley b. 1765 in 1788.
James’ dad was John Burns b. 1730 d. 1812 Chatham Co., NC married Mary Rutherford “Polly” Scurlock b. 1730, m. 1750. Hannah’s dad was John Brantley b. 1736 in Chatham Co, NC. His dad, again John Brantley b. 1707 in Isle of Wight, VA. I am traveling to Chatham Co, NC next week with friends and wondered if you know where James and Hannah Burns or John Burns are buried? Am I on the right track?
You have done such wonderful research. Thank you. I’d like to swab my cheek to learn if I am part of this line. Is this possible?

Dear Norma,
I've just come across your website as I was browsing for any possible link to my oldest known Burns ancestor,Silas Burns, who was born in Andover, Sussex County, Mass., 6/17/1804. He married Lydia P. Dunn (b. 5/5/1818) in Northbridge, Mass. , 11/29/1829. In 1834 they came to Raleigh, NC, and Silas, a blacksmith, worked on the building of the new capitol. He subsequently opened a foundry, and that company is still in business today, known as Peden Steel Co., one of the city's two oldest firms.
Silas had 3 children: David S. Burns,b. 1848 (m.#1 Araminta Hobbie; md.#2 Dora Boykin); Sarah Burns,b. 1842 (md. John Cole); Claude Burns; and Silas Burns (d. 3/1/1850). All of these lived in North Carolina, although David later moved to Washington, DC.
Silas' wife, Lydia P. Dunn, was the daughter of David Dunn (b.11/30/1777) and Huldah Aldrich Dunn (b.3/30/1774) of Uxbridge, Worcester,Mass. I have the Aldrich family traced 'way back, but I've never been able to find anything at all about the parents of Silas Burns.
My grandmother was Ethel Burns, the daughter of David S. Burns and his first wife. Araminta Hobbie Burns...all of Wake County, NC (Raleigh, our state capital is in Wake County). Ethel Burns married James Clovis Adams, and my father Leary Warren Adams was their oldest child. Thanks to DNA tests I have recently succeeded in tracing the Adams line back to the mid 1770s in North Carolina. I don't know any of our male Burns cousins who have the surname Burns; thus I have a problem using DNA in my Burns research.
Does any of this data fit into your line, or any of the Burns lines you've studied?
I'll look forward to hearing from you and will appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi Norma,
Something you may or may not know:
Alexander Abner Burns
John Arthur Burns
William M. Burns..........wonder what the M stands for.......could it
be Martin?
Charles Burns Sr.'s parents were George and Mary (LNU) Burns, parents were born and died in Lanarkshire County, Glasgow, Scotland; per World-
Connect, Scotland.
Charles Burns, Sr.'s grandparents were Rev. Dr. John Burns and Mary Probst. Both were born and died in Lanarkshire County, Glasgow, Scotland; per
World-Connect, Scotland.
I have a really old document written by Ronald Allen Burns on our Burns Family. I also have an old Family Chart from Ambrose Burnside Burns of Texas.
One of the Burns' is always left out.
ANDREW S. BURNS: We know he fought in the Revolutionary War, but what happened to him? Did he marry, did he have children; did he die before
marrying?
In the old Family Chart it lists Charles with two son's by the name of Andrew and Andrew S. Burns. What I believe...........I think Andrew Burns died when he was just a child and later they had Andrew S. Burns.
Charles' children sided with their father after Charles divorced Mary Webb. Wonder why their children turned against their mother. Of course, they only mention the male children and not the daughters.
Charles adored his wife Ann. Ann is the daughter of James Rea/Rhea and Joanna Callings.
On Andrew Burns (Nancy Baker); I received an email from a woman who is a descendant of Andrew. She must have seen some postings on GenForum is my guess.
Anyway, she states that Andrew Burns was not born in 1790 in NC, but that he was born in 1795 in Halifax, Virginia. William and Nancy were married
in Wilkes, VA, in 1795 and were living in Halifax when Andrew was born. The woman who sent this to me no longer does research and it is possible she is elderly; she did not even give me her name.

Subject: WILLIAM M BURNS SR AND WIVES

CC: tenderfoot1954@yahoo.com
Dear Norma,
I am writing to you to see if you can help me clear up the wives of Willaim
M. Burns, Sr.
William M. Burns, Sr. married Nancy Chandler, they married in Halifax,
Virginia.
Some say he married Sarah Bishop. I have rquested proof of that marriage
many, many, months ago and have received no proof of that marriage.
Another said he married Mary Angell. We have now proved William did not
marry Mary Angell.
Several months ago, I received a message from a woman that is a descendant
of Andrew Burns (Nancy Ann Baker) and she states: Andrew Burns was not
born in North Carolina in 1790, he was born in 1795 in Halifax, Virginia,
his father was William M. Burns, Sr. She also said that William M. Burns,
Sr., had a brother named Andrew S. Burns, and that William named his
son Andrew after his brother. This woman use to be a researcher of our
Burns Family, but because of her health did not want her name posted to
any site. Now, William and Nancy were living in Halifax, VA. Andrew
was born in 1795 which is the date that William and Nancy married, so
I have to assume that they were all living together.
Does anyone have proof of a marriage bond/certificate, etc. of William
M. Burns, marrying Sarah Bishop? I'm not talking about censuses, word
of mouth, documents on the Internet, etc. I really want proof that William
M. Burns, married Sarah Bishop. I can say this, William died at his daughter
Sarah Burns house. Sarah and her husband had four small children at that
time. Now, Sarah Burns is Sarah Burns-Bishop, she married William Bishop.
I did extensive research for Sarah Bishop in Virginia and in North Carolina.
There was one Sarah Bishop who was married to ? Bishop in VA (they were
elderly), he died and she married another man in North Carolina (not to
William M. Burns, Sr.) I can't remember her husband's first name. That
was the only Sarah Bishop I could find between those two states.
The Chandler Family Association has only one marriage for Willaim M. Burns,
Sr., and that is to Nancy Chandler.
Willaim moved around a lot. He can be found in VA, NC, SC, and KY.
Please contact me, I want to clear up all this confusion so that we know
who married who. Carolyn Pigg tenderfoot1954@yahoo.com

The will reputed to be that of John Burns Jr. is actually the will of John Edward Burns, son of William Burns and Elizabeth Minter. The John Burns who married Mary Brantley did not leave a will but names of their children have been suggested from deed information and a gift deed of Elizabeth Brantley, Mary's mother.
To date, I am aware of no information that can document a link between John Burns of Chatham and Mary Scurlock and would very much like to see something supporting a tie between these families.

Introduction - The following notes are part of my research that I hope one day to compile into a book. I would like to give full credit to my aunt, Aleene King, for the foundation work she did on the Burns and Wallace lines. She spent years researching her family, and without Aleene's labor, it would have been hard to start. My brother, Aubrey W. Reynolds, is a co-researcher with me on the Burns family. Both of us have a common interest in genealogy his help and enthusiasm have been an inspiration to me. The information provided is an ongoing work, which I will be continuously adding to. When using this material for nonprofit research, please make mention of this web site as your source of information.

The Burns Migration To America
by Robert M. Burns Jr.
Socially, as the government was changing so did the old highland clan system deteriorate. A combination of factors influenced many Scots to journey on the great adventure from home to America.
Many Scots, especially in the early eighteenth century, traveled from the mother country to arrive at the ports of Brunswick and Wilmington, North Carolina. If the Burns brothers arrived in America around 1724, one of the scenario possibilities is that they landed in Brunswick. Brunswick was established in the early 1720s, well before Wilmington was a viable port of entry. Other ports along the eastern seaboard may have been our point of entry, but literature suggests that most Scots tended to choose North Carolina through these entries. In light of the current trade routes established, as well as the prevailing immigration routes of that time, it could be that Brunswick was their port of entry.
Further, early migratory paths for Scots clearly follow the Cape Fear River all the way into modern Chatham County. From the early to mid 1700s, Scot settlements and evidence of land grants exist throughout the Cape Fear Basin. If our ancestors were among these first pioneers, then it is likely that they helped to blaze these trails and therefore be likely to have settled in the upper cape fear (modern Chatham County).
The other scenario to consider is the route taken by many lowlander Scots and Scotch-Irish immigrants. This route, by arriving in Pennsylvania, Delaware, or Virginia ports and then journeying down the "Great Philadelphia Wagon Road," was used during the 1724 time period - especially in the 1730s through 1750. Prior to 1729, however, history tells us that most of the immigration occurred on the coastal plains.
Our forefathers, if the dates of entry are correct, were true pioneers if their first American home was in modern day Chatham County. Evidence suggests that there were upper Cape Fear River settlers, probably arriving at Brunswick or Wilmington, to have come from Scotland. Inspired by the promise of a land grant and freedom, our ancestors were among these adventurous Scots.
Ayrshire, Scotland early 1700s
Zemeriah Micajah Burns (Byrns) and wife Shibiah Thomas Thomason begat five sons: James Micajah, John Henrich, Enoch (Bobby), William Airiah, and Zemeriah Thomas Burns, about or after 1724 departed Ayr to settle in America. They were probably lured to the new colony by the policies of Proprietary Governor George Burrington, whose land office was advertising land for new settlers (ref 1). Their port of entry was probably the small port town of Brunswick, North Carolina at the mouth of the Cape Fear. Research suggest that they ended up in the area now known as Haywood, Chatham County, North Carolina.
While John, Enoch, and William remained in Chatham County, the other brothers went on to Texas and Alabama. Enoch was probably a recipient of a grant, and homesteaded as a farmer on the upper Cape Fear near Haywood. Research indicated that Enoch has a son named John, and that he had a son also named John (jnr). Colonial army records identify a soldier named John Burns from Haywood City, NC (ref 2). These records also name Ann McKizick as his wife, giving her birth date as about 1754. John, Jnr married Christina, and they begat son Alexander Burns (Byrns), who was probably born in Chatham County about 1805. Apparently John, Jnr. moved to neighboring Randolph County about 1810, as evidenced by the State land grant to John Burns (born about 1810) as his wife about 1831, and they begat seven sons and two daughters:
Ransom, Enoch, Adree, William, Micajah, Henderson, Martha, Barney, and Mary, according to the 1850 federal census, were aged respectively 18,16,15,13,12,10,9,8, and 2 years. Also listed is Christina, 71 years as a dependent. (If children were conceived upon marriage, then we may deduce that Alexander and Charity were married about 1831).
Alexander was a land owner and farmer in his early life. Court house records indicate that he was titled land from the State in Randolph county. Later in life he is noted to have operated the Back Creek Township Poorhouse. county records indicate that he was the steward or warden there 1848-1849 and 1857. The 1870 census is the first indication that Alexander spelled his name Burns rather that Byrns. His wife Charity died in December, 1874 and was buried at the Smyrna Grove Church Cemetery, Randolph county. He took a second wife named Mary in his later years. Alexander was apparently a devoutly religious man. His last will and testament expressly commits his soul to the "...care of our Lord Jesus Christ..." and his body "...to the dust..." He died toward the end of 1884 in Randolph County.
Ransom, Alexander's oldest son, was born in Randolph County, North Carolina. As a young man Ransom was a farmer in neighboring Alamance County, and enlisted in the confederate army at Meckleburg County on May 28, 1861.
At age 29 he was detailed as an ambulance driver upon enlistment. Ransom was captured at Strasburg, Virginia on October 19, 1864 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland until released on June 23, 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance to the union. Ransom was confederate private, and served in the North Carolina 6th Infantry, Company F.
Ransom's first wife, Sarah C., was a mother of both John W. (February 14, 1857) and George A. (April 1, 1859). She died upon the birth of George A.
Before moving to Cumberland County, according to 1870 census records Ransom Burns lived in Industry (Austin County) Texas. In 1877 he and his family (including new wife Laura) moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where he became a tobacco dealer. Other endeavors included proprietor of a popular Person Street restaurant, owner of the Fayetteville Livery Company on Gillespie Street, and a clothier on Hay Street.
Connected with Ransom are said to be five brothers at the time his passing - one in High Point and four at Maxton, North Carolina. At his death he was married to Dove Burns and resided at 124 Broad Street, Fayetteville. Ransom died after declining hearth and brief illness on a Tuesday at 8pm at the age of 74. His funeral was at St. John's Episcopal church, and he was buried at the Crosscreek #2 Cemetery in Fayetteville.
Background to the Burns Immigration
It is generally held that there were three main reasons for the Scots to immigrate to America: economic, political, and social. The political climate was conducive to leaving Scotland because of the unrest caused by the 'Jacabean' wars, resulting in migration between 1715 and 1745. Quite probably this unrest contributed to our forefathers' motivation.
The economic unrest of this period also created a longing to travel to the new country. Grants of land were promising for new immigrants, as were arrangements where they may have become indentured servants (to help pay their fare across the ocean, they would agree to work for some years).

Second, I give to my present wife, Mary Burns, the following property: all of the household and kitchen furniture which she may have on hand, which she was possessed of when I married her, and also all the property that she may legally obtain from henceforth and be in possession of at my death, one tract of land whereon she now lives containing one hundred and sixty-three acres more or less, one Negro woman named Dinah, one Negro boy named Mike, one mare and colt, eight head of cattle, and all of the hogs which she may be possessed of, and also the plantation tools. If, however, my said wife, Mary Burns, should contend for any of my property at home where I now live that is any species of property which I may die possessed of except what I have herein named and bequeathed to her, my will and desire is in that event that all my property which I may die possessed of at home and also all the property she may be possessed of at my death be sold and the proceeds be equally divided among all my children who have not received their full share of my estate and my aforesaid wife, Mary Burns.
Thirdly, I give to my daughter, Elizabeth Durham, one hundred and twenty-five dollars, one horse, saddle, and bridle, worth sixty-five dollars, one cow and calf, and one bed and furniture worth twenty-five dollars, all of which she has received.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my son, Brantley Burns, one hundred and twenty-five dollars, one horse, saddle, and bridle, worth sixty-five dollars, and in lieu of a bed and furniture, and a cow and calf, he has received twenty-five dollars in money, all of which property he has received.

My will and desire furthermore is that after my decease, he shall have one hundred and twenty-five dollars over and above what my other children will have.
Sixthly, I give and bequeath to my daughter, Nancy Harman, one hundred twenty-five dollars, one horse, saddle, and bridle, worth sixty-five dollars, one cow and calf, and bed and furniture worth twenty-five all of which she has received.

(This fact he has since confirmed by letter.) This said Negro together with a bed and furniture and one hundred thirty-seven dollars is his full share which I intend him to have of my estate, all of which he has received.
Eighthly, I give and bequeath to my son, Micajah Burns, one hundred twenty-five dollars, one horse, saddle, and bridle, also ten dollars, which he received in lieu of a cow and calf, the horse, bridle, and saddle, worth sixty-five dollars, and one bed and furniture worth fifteen dollars all of which he has received.
NInthly, I give and bequeath to my son, John Calvin Burns, one hundred twenty-five dollars, one horse, saddle, and bridle, worth sixty-five dollars. In place of giving him a cow and calf, bed and furniture I gave him twenty-five dollars in money all of which he has received.
Tenthly, I give and bequeath to my son Martin Luther Burns, one hundred twenty-five dollars, and one horse, saddle, and bridle, worth fifty-two dollars, all of which he has received.

Eleventhly, I give and bequeath to my children, namely, Thomas Burns, Sarah Brooks, and Elias Burns, three Negroes namely, Katie, Abram, and Surry, and horse, bridle, and saddle, which I consider to be a full share of my estate including what I have given them heretofore.
Lastly, I will and direct that all my just debts be paid and after that all of the property which I may have on hand at my death to be sold on a credit of 12 months the amount of which sales together with all the monies I may have and all the debts due me to be equally divided among my children named below (to wit) Elizabeth Durham, Brantley Burns, James Burns, Hiram Burns, Martin L. Burns, Micajah Burns, and Lavina H. Burns, John Calvin Burns, Nancy Harman. The property and cash that I have advanced to my said children as heretofore expressed in this my Last Will and Testament is to be deducted out of what may be coming to them on the settlement of my estate and should there be any one of them who has received more than their proportionable part to pay it over to my executors for the benefit of my other children named above.
I hereby nominate my son, Micajah Burns and William Burns, Sr, my executors in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and affixed my seal to this, my Last Will and Testament the day and date first above written, signed, sealed in the presence of

hello norma....stumbled on your burns website while looking for burns info.am wondering if you can help me ????
my gggrandfather was george m. burns abt 1796 nc... dalton, whitfield co, ga 1863
married elizabeth raper blount co, tn 14 feb 1818 ....they were in monroe co, tn 1830, 40, 50, then to bradley co, tn by 1860 and they died in ga in 1863.
i have a small pocket bible that belonged to geo. and eliz.... some of thier children's births are recorded in it....one son was rev. john lard burns...the bible spells it lard and not laird.
in the front of the bible is written....george burns borrowed 2 oz of salt from mr. wright, no date. thier oldest child, james anderson burns, married mary ann wright in monroe co, tn 1842 and the john wright family was next door to the burns family in the monroe co census.
another entry in the bible says craig burns borrowed 2 oz of salt from mr. wright no date. craig burns wasn't one of geo and eliz's children. i can't find any info on him anywhere. also in the bible is the name henry baker written several times...nothing else just the name. i find a polly burnes marriage to henry baker in blount co, tn 1826. can find nothing else on this marriage. in the bible is written " jane her book ( looks like ) 1790." the bible was printed in edinbrough, scotland 1778. i got the bible from my grandfather, geo, carson who got it from his mother , rutha jane burns, dau of geo. and eliz raper burns. i have info on all of geo and eliz children but no parents for geo. m. burns. supposedly he was born in buncombe co, nc but i got that from info on the net so don't know where that comes from or if it's documented or not. a eugene cheek has lots of info on this family on the internet. i have tried to email him on numerous occasions and never get an answer. i will be glad to share anything i have if anyone needs it. do you have any info in your data on any of these burns?? thanks, cindy carson mcclure, atlanta, ga. >BURNSVILLE TOWNSHIP
There were people living in the part of Anson County known as Burnsville as early as 1753, probably much earlier. There are records of land deeds to LEE, LILLY, DREMAS, and STOKES from 1750-1756. This land was on Rocky River.
In 1747 JOHN LEE, WILLIAM BROOKS, ANNE TRULL, JOHN CULPEPPER (CULPEPER), and THOMAS ENGLISH bought land on the Rocky River from GEORGE AUGUSTUS SELWYN of the County of Gloucester in the Kingdom of Great Britian through his attorney, HENRY MCCULLOCH.
JAMES and DUMAS are also early family names in this region of rolling hills and farmland.
From Virginia about 1770, the CURLEE, PARKER and the YARBOROUGH families came into this region and settled. A little later, BROADWAY, O'NEALS (O'NEILS), CLENNYS, NANCES, ALLENS, and EDWARDS settled in the central and southern part.
THE BURNS FAMILY TO BURNSVILLE
About 1800 or a little earlier, those by the name of THOMAS, BURNS, BEVERLY, BENTON, HATCHER, STATON, EFIRD and KIKER came. It is thought that all these people came to America during the migration. It has been said by ancestors that the KIKER, HATCHER, CLENNY, and HORNS were Pennsylvania Dutch (German).
There is a record of the township being called Burnsville as early as 1836. WALTER BURNS was the first to settle in the actual community of Burnsville.
WALTER BURNS lived about a mile North of the Burnsville School. He ran a tavern or inn. At this place was a store, post office, shoe shop, and a shop that made hats from fur. At one time a race track also existed there.
Burnsville has always been strictly an agricultural section. On Rocky River and Lanes Creek there were grist mills to grind corn and wheat. URIAH STATON had a grist mill and a saw mill on Lanes Creek. A KIKER and later the BURNS' had a cording mill on Lanes Creek where they made rolls of wool. DARLING ALLEN made brick at this place to build chimneys. Many of the large farms had cotton gins. The creeks tell of families that settled in the Northwest section of Anson County bordering Union and Stanley Counties.
The oldest house now standing in Burnsville is on Rural Road No. 1439, Lanier Road, off 742. It was built in 1807 by WILLIAM HATCHER. ELIZA HORN, STOGNER KIKER and MELVINA HAM BAKER lived in it.

Subject: Re: Family Tree DNA New Project Member
Norma, Thank you for your note. I have no objection to your sharing that information about me and my email address. The information I have from our family history is as follows:
One William Burns born in the early 1700's had five children. We have the names of two. One, William was born 1737 and was the father of Robert the poet. The other son of William (born 1700's) was Robert born in 1732.
Robert Burns and his wife (we do not have her name) had six children named William Burns,
Archibald Burns, Robert Burns, Henry Burns, Mary Burns and John Burns. The child who is our ancestor was William. He was born in Ireland Feb. 12, 1752. He came to this country as a young man and the info we have is that he was an Irish Weaver. He lived
first in Orange County, North Carolina and married Margaret Mitchell (born in Maryland Jan. 30, 1752) while in North Carolina. They had eight children:
Andrew Burns b. Feb. 6 1775
James Burns b Apr.30 1777
William Burns b. Oct. 19, 1779
Sally Burns b. Jan 9 1782
Mary Burns b. May 30 1784
John Burns b Oct.11, 1788
David Mitchell Burns b. Aug. 30, 1791 (my ancestor)
Samuel Burns b. Sept. 1, 1795
William Burns (Sr. I will call him) died July 22, 1827 at age 75. We have information that he fought in the Revolutionary War and a number of family
members became DAR members based on that information. William settled in the area near Maysville Ga where he died.
We only have information about two of his children, David Mitchell Burns and Samuel Burns. Much of the above information was taken from a family Bible still in the hands of some family members.
Incidentally, you might be interested to know that one of David Mitchell Burns' progeny, Olive Ann Burns wrote the popular novel Cold Sassy Tree. I have very extensive records about David Mitchell Burns' offspring. David was a General in the Georgia Militia and I have a copy of his resignation to the Georgia governor which is in the State Archives. I still have not gotten all of these records onto a computer program which would make it much easier to send to someone, but this is a start.

Anthony Byrne told me I should send an enquiry to you on the Byrn
family. I had posted this on the GenForum. Any information on Charles
Byrn 1731-1797, and Byrnville, IN. I have quite a bit of info. I am
a descendant of Charles and Anne thorough son Matthew, and his son James
that migrated to Putnam Co., IN and then Morgan Co., IN before family
left for IL.
My problem is I have a copy of Charles' Will, and I know
that William, Thomas, Charles Leason and Temple Cole went to Southern
IN. I have that info and family book of those descendants. What I am
looking for is confirmation of possible sisters and brothers of Charles
the Father, and of Matt and James. I have the information on Alexander
and Censes. What I could use some info on are these questions:
Where did Charles come from exactly in Ireland, and if they were thrown
out of Scotland, what for? What happened to Charles family, was there
futher contact. When did Charles come to America and the Ship's name.
What port did he come to. Where did he settle, and if it was VA or MD
where in those states and counties? What were his siblings names, and
info that came with him? When did he marry Anne, and what is her maiden
name, Imbler? Who is the elderly Elizabeth Byrns that shows up in
Byrnville, who was born in VA. (Census of Harrison Co., IN.)
My
Grandfather James Byrns (Charles Grandson, Matthew's son) died between
1850 and 1860, because I find him on the 1850 Census for Morgan Co., IL
but not on the IL with wife and same children. I have his wife's maiden
name and it fits with several of the families in Randolph Co., NC as
well. I also found the Byrn family that is listed in Bladen Co., NC,
and they have the same names down to Alexander.
Do you know are they
the same family? What is confusing is that Matthew is missing in the
Randolph household on one census, but a Matthew shows up in Bladen
county working on a Plantation. I also have a testimony that someone
stole hay from Matthew in Randolph Co., (according to Randolph Co., NC
court proceedings and his son Alexander and James testify to Alexander
although being underage is indeed Matthew's son.
I also have
abstracts of wills in Bladen Co., NC for Wills for Matthew 1837, Mary
(wife) 1838, and son John 1848. A James, and an Alex J., and a John and
a Matthew Jr. as well as four daughters are named in these wills. I am
wandering if they are the same family?.
I can pinpoint when my grandfather James left NC, because one child
was born in 1837 in NC, and the next in 1838 in Putnam Co., IN. That
says to me that James left after his father died, and apparently
according to later censes, Alexander must have taken over the running of
the family Mill in Davidson, Co., I don't know. That is what I have
been able to decipher. Do you have any info that would shed light onto
my research, any definitive information that could verify what family I
have.
Are they one and the same or two different familys and if so, how
so? There is also an older Alexander J. that was born in early 1700s,
and appears not to have a family, and lives on a neighboring plantation
next to Matthew and John in Bladen. Can you shed some light, and do you
know who could share some info on Charles and Anne and and Ireland.
Thanks,
Randy H. Schmidt peshewa@iquest.net
