DNA is the next step in your research. The Family Tree 12 Marker test is easy to take (swab the inside of your cheek) and is good for genealogy purposes only. It will tell who your cousins and ancestors are within 14 generations. Please join this study by clicking on the link above or write to me: nfarmilo@comcast.net

Subject: JOSEPH M BURNS
I just came across your webpage for JOHN & MARGARET BURNS of Polk Co. MO.
J & M are my GGG grandparents - ROBERT W BURNS is my GG grandfather - THOMAS LAFAYETTE BURNS is my G grandfather and GLENN C BURNS is my grandfather.
Just wanted to pass on a correction to you for JOSEPH M BURNS. He was quite a mystery until I found his Mexican War enrollment card which states that he died at Taos, NM on Dec. 3, 1847. JOSEPH & ROBERT signed up at the same time but, unfortunately JOSEPH didn't return home.
I haven't had a chance to look at your whole website yet, but I am looking forward to checking out the info you have. After all the genealogy "surfing" I do, I can't believe this is the first time I've come across it!

Hello NORMA,
On the JOHN BURNS (JOHN b. 1746; LEARD d. 1784; JOHN B b. 1681) that married MARGARET WILSON, they are my gggGrandparents. Their son ROBERT W BURNS is my ggGrandfather. On one of the children you have a wrong name. ZTL. His tombstone is lettered as ZACKRIAS but we have learned everything he signed is ZACCHUES. His full name was ZACCHUES THOMAS LAFAYETTE BURNS. He was named for MARGARET WILSON'S Great Uncle ZACCHUES WILSON, who signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.
Thank you for taking the time to correct this.

What with all the people in TN named JOHN BURNS, can anyone tell me
anything about this one in the 1830 census in Morgan County:
Males
one under 5 (born after 1825)
two aged 5 & under 10(born 1820-25)
one aged 15 & under 20(born 1810-15)
one aged 40 & under 50 (born 1780-90)
Females
one under 5 ( born after 1825)
two 5 & under 10 (born 1820-25)
0ne 30 & under 40 (born 1790-1800)
The ages of these people corresponds closely with the family of my
GGGrandparents JOHN BURNS born 1788 and wife MARGARET WILSON born
1796. Can anyone tell me anything about these people in Morgan County, TN?

Hi, I saw your info from 1850 Itawamba MS and 1860 Fulton county ARK
concerning John Burns' household. Elender Griggs, born Tennessee about
1810, daughter of John and Mary Griggs. She was blind and required a
guardian. I was wondering if Mary Burns could have been a neice. They have
her dates kind of reversed older in 1850 than in 1860. Her father was a
Rev War soldier. He left a will in White County Tn in 1821 naming all his
children and giving his entire estate for the benefit of Elender.
The statement "There is John Burns b. 1788 SC d. 1862 Polk county Mo
m. 1812 Bedford County TN to Margaret Wilson" may explain why Elender is in
the John Burns household. Elender had a sister named Margaret Wilson
called Peggy Wilson. Peggy was a widow. John could have been Margaret
Griggs Wilson's second husband. I'll try to check further. I am a decendant
of her sister Elizabeth Griggs Denton. Thanks Norma.
