I hope that the BURNS FAMILY DNA PROJECT will help solve some of your genealogy questions. It will definitely tell you if you're "barking up the wrong tree".

The 12 marker test is simple - just swab the inside of your cheek. The cost is $99. This test will tell you within 14 generations whether you are related to someone. There are more definitive tests but for our initial purposes the 12 marker test is all we need. If you want to upgrade later you can.

We need males with the BURNS last name for this study. Please ask your male BURNS relatives to join our study. Click on the BURNS DNA link above to join our study or write nfarmilo@litestream.net

Subject: JOHN & MILES BURNS

My mother's research has shown a MILES BURNS (b. 5/24/1784) that had two brothers - JOHN & CHARLES. MILES, JOHN, & CHARLES, all signed the petition to form Maury Co. TN. MILES BURNS' parents were JOHN ARTHUR BURNS SR & ANN WALKER (NICHOLS?). It would seem that your JOHN BURNS would be the brother to our MILES BURNS. Do you have anymore information that could help prove this?

PS: According to Laclede Co (MO) history, JOHN S BURNS (b. 9/6/1844) was the son of FOSTER BURNS & ELIZABETH TILLER (from Maury Co. TN & Polk Co. MO) & the grandson of JOHN BURNS. JOHN S BURNS became a US Marshall for the Western District of Missouri. Would seem to be related.

I am looking for any information on my grandfather WILLIAM JOSIAH BURNS. He married ANNIE CANZADY MARTIN. The only information I have is that they had lived in Alabama and were buried in Wayne County, Tennessee.

I have been looking at your well-presented website-I have a gr.gr. grandfather, ELIDA BURNS. We think his father was JAMES BURNS (but can't prove it).

ELIDA BURNS married SUSAN MITCHELL in Montgomery Co., Tennessee in 1838. ELIDA BURNS & SUSAN MITCHELL had 2 sons, JAMES T BURNS & JOSEPH B BURNS.

SUSAN BURNS passed away. The only two BURNS' in the Montgomery, Tennessee 1840 census were ELI BURNS & JAMES BURNS. ELIDA BURNS then married my Grandmother LUCY DARROW CAGLE in 1841 at Dickson Co., Tennessee. We found them later in Jasper Co., Missouri.

They had 3 sons - WILLIAM FLETCHER BURNS (my line), a twin, JOHN W BURNS & ADAM D BURNS who was killed in his teens in Tennessee.

We've had quite a time finding out more about ELIDA. I had been told he was killed by a falling tree possibly in Missouri. Do hope someone knows if JAMES BURNS was his father or who his mother was or anything else about his early life. Thank you for any help.

The CHARLES EARL BURNS (see link) family were also in Tennessee in the mid 1900's & some to present.
