Mishra's Workshop - Magic Deck Workshop

This deck has been very affective against my friend, but I would like your oppinion. I Have played this deck in Extended and faired pretty well. Could you think of any cards to replace so that I can play Type 2?

To start with, I only make the deck 59 cards. This is an illegal deck, so we'll need to add a card. It appears to be a cross between a Stompy deck and a Opposition deck, and very few cards need to be changed to make it Type II legal. However, there may be some better choices than the cards currently in the deck.

Let's start with what has to come out. The Verdant forces can easily be replaced. There is an abundant supply of good green fat in Mercadian Masques and Urza's Destiny. Ancient Silverback, Rushwood Elemental, Hunted Wumpass or another Thorn Elemental and Emperor Crocodile could fill that slot. Oath of Druids is a heav loss, but Bifurcate or even another couple of Defense of the Heart is a fair replacement. Reflecting Pool and Skyshroud Forest aren't that big a hit. In a two-colour deck you're not going to get mana hosed all that often, especially with Birds of Paradise around. 3 City of Brass might help, and maybe even a Thran Quarry or two, but I'd go with extra basics.

Now, as for improvements, the first things to go in my mind should be the Oppositions and the Palinchrons. The Opposition is really better suited to a slower, control-based deck. Your deck is very creature-heavy, true, but the creatures in it are mostly going to be kicking butt, so they won't be there to tap for Opposition. The Palinchron is an excellent blue beasty, but the large amount of blue mana required to cast him and use his ability makes him a bit suspect. Try replacing these with 2 more Saprazzan Heirs (great card advantage) and 4 Masticores (do something with all those cards). For the card we need to add, I'd make it 4 Birds of Paradise. Ideally, I'd like to find a way to add some more mana critters to the deck, but it seems pretty solid the way it is. Try it out!

Description The Ramossian Sergeants are used to bring out the Steadfast Guards which work very well with Opposition, and Field Surgeon. The Horseshoe Crab also works well w/ opposition and field surgeon because you can use it repetitive times. This deck wins by using opposition to tap all of their creatures during their end of turn phase, then attacking with the steadfast guards which will still be open to tap creatures or land.

This looks like a well-thought-out deck which has plenty of creatures to work Opposition to its fullest. However, as with any deck I can see some need for changes.
My first instinct would be to remove the Cloud of Faeries. They don't serve much purpose other than as a flier in the deck, and there are cards that would fit the slot better. Then I noticed that you mentioned Horseshoe Crab in the description, but not in the decklist, so I figure you mixed the two up.
The Sergeants, while they help find your Steadfast Guards, don't really serve any other purpose. I'd be tempted to add 2 Morphlings, which can also be untapped for one blue mana in addition to being beefy gamewinners, and two Enlightened Tutors, since without an Opposition you're in trouble.
Counterspells are always useful, but I don't think 4 is enough. I'd take out the Story Circles, as nothing should get through to you anyway, and slip in 3 Counterspells.

Although you did not include a deck description, I really don't think one is necessary. However, this deck has a few problems which we can tighten up now.
First up, the deck would suffer very little from being converted to Type II legal. The Bolts and the Fanatics, therefore, are out. If you plan to run Razes, then your going to need more than 19 land. I'd also take out Destructive Urge, as by the time you start attacking, land should not be a problem. Land destruction is more of a control strategy than speed, although it does need to hold its own in the early game. So let's look at some replacements...
Seismic Mage is just too good, especially with Squee, to leave out. Four of them. 2 more Squee, as we now have 6 cards that would like to use him. Seal of Fire is a good replacement for Lightning Bolt, though not as powerful. You will need, however, something to guard against weenie hordes, so two Seals and 2 Earthquakes is a better bet. Add in 2 mountains and away you go. If you find the deck is still playing too slow, Fire Diamonds might be a good plan.
