Azala is the head of the Reptites clan of 65 000 000 BC. He is extremely intelligent and heads his clan with great authority. He feels however, that all the apes are inferior to his Reptite race as wishes to "purge" the world of their kind. He creates war with both the Laruba and Ioka tribe over his ape prejudice. His dream, to annihilate the apes of the face of the earth. As the story progresses, this hateful reptile kidnaps Kino and most of the Laruba tribe. This action forces Ayla, leader of the Ioka, to put an end to the conflict once and for all. After defeating Azala, the intelligent leader observes that the red star that is falling is going to wipe out his race. Even then, his hatred is too strong for him to accept the help offered to him by Ayla. Azala goes to his grave cursing the future humans.
