Queen Zeal is the ruler of the wonderous and mysterious kingdom of Zeal in the Dark Ages. Although said to be once a just and kind ruler, the Queen has changed. On a search for power to aid the rise of her kingdom and its people, she found another energy source that exceeds that of the traditional elemental power. Since this discovery, she has not been herself. Something dark has entered Zeal and is turning her into a cruel tyrant of a leader. This something is Lavos, source of the power. The more power the people drain from Lavos, the worse the Queen and her lust for power get. She imprisons Melchior on Mount Woe, and kidnaps her own daughter to activate the Mammon Machine. She becomes a slave of Lavos' power and his loyal servant. In awaking Lavos using her daughter, she destroys millions of lives, as well as the Kingdom of Zeal. In the end, she is destroyed by Crono and friends, and her soul is finally set free from Lavos and she can rest in peace.
Queen Zeal has two children, Schala and Janus, but there is no mention of a King. He appears to be deceased.
