The Favorite Melodies of 98º

Believe it or not, none of the guys from 98º were all that stoked about their 1997 self-titled debut album. "The vibe [of the album] was something we really felt like we didn't quite come through on," 22-year-old Drew Lachey reveals, not including the smash single "Invisible Man" in the estimation. "Unfortunately, we were in an extreme time crunch and we just kind of got it together. SO it was nice to have another opportunity to do exactly what we wanted."

He is talking about their 1998 CD 98º and Rising, of course, the latest, greatest effort from Drew and groupmates Justin Jeffre, Jeff Timmons and Nick Lachey. With its string of upbeat tempos and romantic ballads, including the first single, the oh-so-sweet "Because of You," these crooners couldn't contain their excitement the last time they got together with BB to discuss it. They also couldn't wait to tell us which of the album's 13 tracks are their favorites.

"'Still' is my favorite because it's got great lyrical content and we co-wrote it with the guys who wrote 'Invisible Man,'" hottie Jeff, 25, reveals. "It's an all around good pop song with a lot of heart and emotion."

With even more heart and emotion, delightful Drew immediately chooses "She's Out Of My Life," an a cappella remake of Micheal Jackson's classic hit. "I just think it's a beautiful arrangement and there's a lot of sentimental value to it," the hazel-eyed cutie says fervently. "It was actually on our demo that helped us get signed with Motown and everybody always loved it. We were looking for an a cappella for this album and that was kind of like the obvious choice. I get goose bumps every time I listen to it."

What gives his older bro, Nick, goose bumps every time he hears it? "I have to say 'I Do (Cherish Drew)' is my favorite because I think it's beautiful," the 25-year-old smiles, showing off his deep-set dimples. "I think it's very emotional and I think we did a nice job of remaking it."

And as for platinum-coiffed Justin, he wouldn't feel like he was staying true to his heart if he didn't pick, you guessed it, their duet with superstar Stevie Wonder that appears on the album as well as the soundtrack to Disney's Mulan (now available in video stores, by the way), "True To Your Heart." "Ever since we got to Motown, we were hoping and asking if there was any chance that we could just meet him," Justin, who turns 26 this month, explains. "When we found out that we were actually going to do a song with him, it was amazing!" Almost as amazing as the entire album itself!
